Alena has come through her first trial as a Super Duper monster by defeating Achilles but Hera and her allies are far from done and she has sent the demigod Theseus to destroy her. As if she doesn’t have enough problems trying to deal with her cheating, thieving ex-husband and is blonde bimbo, convincing the human courts that she is alive and is entitled to all the rights and benefits as other human and to convince her mother and father that she is still the same person that she has always been not knowing when and how Theseus will come after her.

She still has the support of her friends from the first novel but she is not sure all of them are loyal to her. She soon discovers that part of Theseus plans is to destroy the bonds she has with her friends and he starts with Beth. Beth believes that she was saved from being run over by a speeding motorist by a gorgeous man named Ted whom she has quickly fallen in love with. When Alena tries to warn her about his true identity and purpose she becomes angry and moves out taking Sandy with her. Alena discovers that Theseus uses one of Eros’ arrows on Beth and starts to believe that he is really working for Hera instead of trying to appear neutral so he can help her.

The writing was better in this book, more concise and some of the quips are so hilarious that you burst out laughing. However, I am tired of hearing her belittle herself because of what she has been forced t do and her incessant believe that she deserves what is happening to her because she chose to live instead of dying when she had the opportunity. I like the fact that she wants to get a divorce before she starts a relationship with someone else, although she knows that her husband has been cheating on her for years. I also like how the story gave her a chance to make human officials acknowledge that she does has exist and therefore she dies have rights, I just wish she would stop being so hard on herself.

4/5 STARS: **I want to thank the author and/or publisher for providing me with a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review; all opinions are mine.**

Loved reading the exciting and intriguing second book in the series paranormal written by the talented Shannon Mayer. I received a copy from NetGalley.
Alena Budrene is a supernatural battling the forces of evil while still working as a baker in Seattle. Her greatest enemy she needs to defeat is the demigod Theseus. Theseus has a bunch of vampires and a goddess on his side , and Alena feels like she is on her own battling Theseus.
Read the highly recommended engaging paranormal story full of adventure and mystery.

What a great paranormal read. It was fun and kept you on the edge of your seat.

Thoroughly enjoyed this series. Fun read, with Greek Gods and Goddesses, monsters and vampires and goblins mixed in. Fairly complex characters and a world where monsters are heroes and heroes are monsters.

I wasn't impressed with Alena. She had pockets of strength and intelligence, otherwise she was whiny and...well, annoying. Instead of accepting her status as a Supe she acted like she was still human. While some morals were good to hold onto, the world Alena was thrust into didn't play the same game. Remo was interesting. I think he truly liked Alena for herself but wouldn't hesitate to utilize her gifts to his advantage if the opportunity presented itself.

I liked the premise of the story, I just wish Alena had more steel to her personality. When she's kicking butt she's great, otherwise she was lamenting her life and her lack of spine. The interaction with the gods and goddess of Olympus were interesting, as was Merlin, and the vampire Remos. Fangs and Fennel is the second book in the Venom Trilogy. I haven't read the first book in the series, yet had no issues following the storyline.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley.

Fangs and Fennel started a few days after the events in Venom & Vanilla. Alena is fighting for a divorce with her (ex)husband where she can keep her stuff - aka her baking shop.

The enemy of this book was kind of boring. I liked Achilles of the previous book more, because he was kind of a brainless brute, but because of it he was more fun than Theseus.

As well as in Venom & Vanilla I enjoyed watching Alena's character develop. She more and more embraces her role and learns to stand up for herself.

Still not enough Remo for me, but I have a crush on him, so I'm a bit picky ;)

Shannon Mayer's writing style was good as always and I can't wait to read the conclusion for this series.

Ted was Alana’s brother and thought Alana was wrong going to the courthouse to prove she was in fact alive and to get a divorce was a bad idea. Alana had married roger and he had been cheating on her with Barbie before Alana caught the virus. Now Alana had all kinds of proof of who she was but Alana was now supernatural and had a giant poisonous snake inside her. Roger had a fake death certificate on Alana. The world didn’t see supernaturals as people who had any rights . Alana proving she was alive would be near to impossible. Roger and her girlfriend Barbie were at the courthouse together and trying to walk away with Alana’s inheritance and house she had inherited from her grandparents as well as her business Vanilla and Honey bakery she had worked so hard to make a success. Then Roger was going to sell everything to start a dog- and cat- grooming business. What scared humans from supernaturals was the Aegius virus. But what humans didn’t know was that you had to have some supernatural blood even a very little- in their genetics. But when humans get the virus they die within a couple of weeks. The people who had the virus were put in a special hospital on the outside of the city. There was a cure but it involved being turned into a supernatural which Alana had learned about from her roommate/best friend at the hospital Dahlia who was now seeing Alana’s brother Tad. Alana was a Drakaena- a woman siren who could shift at will into a giant venomous snake. Alana wasn’t a nice girl anymore she had killed to protect herself and those she loved. Alana had also kissed another man - Roma who was a vampire mob boss. Roma had stayed with Alana to protect her or so Alana believed. But there was no cross dating other species. Remo had slept and only slept with Alana after the battle with Achilles. Remo showed up when Alana was waiting to go to court today and he had his hearing moved up so he would be there if Alana needed help he was there. Remo told Alana he missed her. Roger tried to pull Alana away from Remo and Remo pulled Alana even closer to him and thanked Roger for being so stupid enough to let Alana go free. Officer Jensen was Remo’s inside man to the human police department and he reminded Remo they had to get to his hearing. Remo kissed Alana and told her that she undid him. Alana was Remo’s according to Remo and he didn’t share. Santos was Remo’s younger brother and a bitter rival and the head of a much smaller gang -Remo had almost three hundred members in his and that was the largest gang in North America. Officer Jensen came to Alana and said Remo needed her help and Alana shifted into the snake and helped him get free from Santos and his vampires. A man came up to Alana and it was Theseus and he told Alana he had to kill her in order to break the bond Hera had on him. Theseus was a demigod. Santos wanted what Remo had: power, respect, influence , and territory. But Santos didn’t want to go out and make it for himself. Remo and Santos had been at war since Remo had been turned almost four hundred years now. Alana shares her safe house with two friends Beth and Sandy. They took care of each other. Flora - Alana’s ya ya and grandmother sent a message through Hermes that she wanted to meet Alana at Vanilla and Honey. Flora wanted Alana to get Merlin- the warlock who had changed her so she wouldn’t die- to fight for Alana in court. Flora had been a priestess in Zeus's temple and had an affair with Zeus and brought a curse on the family. Theseus had used an enchanted arrow on Beth and she was obsessed with Theseus and charmed Sandy and they both left with Theseus. Theseus told the girls his name was Tim and saved Beth from being hit by a car. Then Santos and his vampires show up and have a snake catcher that has some oil on it that eats through Alana’s flesh and scales down to her bone. Alana gets away but is hurt but Ernie tells Alana to go in the water and that helps wash off the oil. Then the vampires catch up again and Alana barely makes it to the Supe Squad headquarters which is made up of werewolves. Alana was badly hurt and then Remo shows up and shortly after that Ernie with Damara the Satyr who had healed tad when he had almost died.
This was a good supernatural story with a twist using Gods and Goddesses and demigods and I liked it a lot. It was a fairly quick read and also had a good plot. Remo could not help caring about Alana even though he wouldn’t outright admit it not for a long time anyway. I felt bad that Theseus had turned Alana’s friends and even her brother on her except Remo and her ya ya. I thought it was funny when Alana got drunk even though it was dangerous and laughed out loud at Alana’s antics. I also loved how Flora stood for Alana no matter what. I also thought Alana’s mother was a butt for not accepting Alana after she had been changed. I loved how Alana stepped up when she had to even kill to protect herself and those she loved and cared about. All and all a good story. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.

Alena, now a supernatural, is fighting her no good, cheating husband for a divorce and her assets. She has no rights as a super, and is declared dead since she was turned to save her life. A new assassin from Hera is after her. Action, vampires, greek gods, bakery fun. Don't you just love cupcakes?

Format: ebook
Tissue warning: No
HEA: it's book 2 in a series, so we're not done yet
Triggers: it's paranormal, so it's all out there, but no real-life triggers
My reviewer rating: 4 out of 5
Recommend to others: yes. it's cute and an easy read

I enjoy reading about Alena. She's a bad-ass character and is coming into her own really well with her powers. I can't call her a super-dupe, I just dislike it so much. So much.

You are going to really need to read book 1 in the series before this one to really grasp what's going on and all that Alena has had to go through to get where she is.

And Remo is starting to grow on me. At first I felt he was just another biker-bad-boy.

What a fun read. Alena is getting so much stronger and settling into her new body. There's a small crossover that I won't spoil here, but it made me laugh and cheer. These books are a great read, I highly recommend them.

lena makes some serious strides in this book! Deciding to be more than what she was before she was turned, Alena decides to finally stand up for herself, and with that every other supernatural within this world.

Again the mix of Greek gods and supernatural creatures made the most delicious story. This book had a quick pace, and was full of action and deceit that may change the the world as Alena (and all other super dupers) know it. I was very pleased to read some of the secrets that Alena's family has been hiding, for centuries.

Like what we've come to love about Mayer's books, nothing is quite like it seems and as always I'm excited to see what she has in store.

A reluctant heroine fights evil while trying to protect her family and friends. She learns to stand up for herself making humans acknowledge presence of supernatural beings.

Another great story from Shannon Mayer. Shannon weaves her magic again. This is book 2 of a trilogy. Strongly recommend reading these books in order for the greatest enjoyment. You won't be sorry that you did...

I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.

Left this review on Goodreads and Amazon US.

The follow up to Venom and Vanilla did not disappoint. The trilogy seems to be finding it's footing and flowing much better together. I look forward to the conclusion. Full of laughs, oh shoot, and a bit on a tear-jerker Fangs and Fennel is a light read well worth the time.

Shannon Mayer has done it again. She really has the ability to write her stories so I’m totally drawn in and can’t stop reading. In “Fangs & Fennel” Alena learns more about her supernatural abilities and FINALLY gets rid of her jerk of a husband. Sadly it’s just a divorce, if it had been me, I would have opted for a more (super)naturally solution. Can’t wait to read the third and final book.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley and 47North!

I start reading books by this author by reading Rylee Adamson novels, which I have read every one so far. I'm hooked on Rylee and know I hooked on this series too.

Absolutely love this series. It puts a whole new spin on Greek mythology. All the Greek gods and demigods are seen at some point in time or another in this series. Alena is finally coming into her own and learning how to use her powers. The world and characters will draw you in and leave you begging for more. You never know who you will find next or what role they will play. Ms. Mayer leaves you wondering exactly who is the bad guy and who is the good guy. Followed by snarky comments and funny interactions, this series is a great read.

My name is Alena Budrene.....

Alena finds her capabilities doubted by most of her friends as she faces a new crisis in the form of Theseus. This book really was a battle of minds for me, unlike Venom and Vanilla where Achilles relied on his physical strength.

Her friends and family became chess pieces and check mate was leaving her alone and vulnerable.

I laughed a lot with the baking humour and loved how Remo's character has evolved.

It's a fun, quick and easy read but hasn't topped my list of favourite series by Shannon Mayer.

Looking forward to reading Hisses & Honey.

I received this as an ARC through Net Galley which I have voluntarily read.

This is the 2nd book in the Venom Trilogy and I absolutely loved it as much as I did the first one. Alena's character keeps getting better and better and you get to know the rest of the other characters more. This is definitely a book that is hard to put down. 1 more left in the series and I just can't wait for it to come!! You have to read this trilogy. Shannon Mayer never seems to disappoint her readers no matter what story she's writing!!
