So many twists and red herrings and then the final twist caught me completely unawares. I was not expecting that ! This story was compulsive reading from the very beginning and I wasn't sure who to believe. It took right to the very end to answer all the questions and tie up the loose ends. Highly recommended

From the very first page I was hooked. A real page turner with characters well represented and enough twists and turns to keep you enthralled. Brilliant and well recommended. I look forward to this author's next books with relish.

Joe Lynch is with his son William and sees his wife Mel go into a car park in the middle of the day, follows her into it and then witnesses her having a heated argument with their friend Ben. What next happens, Joe will forever regret.
Pacy, real edge of your seat stuff. Well written. One to recommend. Loved and sympathised with the character of Joe. Oh, if on'y he hadn't followed Mel!
My thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for the advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this debut novel and was more or less hooked from the first page. TM Logan's writing is so addictive, and throughout I constantly wanted to discover more. I had so many questions and my mind was buzzing with ideas and feelings about what was going on.

Lies is a story where once you pick it up, you won't want to put it down. I was up late at night reading because I was gripped and intruigued by this story and desperately wanted to find out the truth. With many twists and turns along the way this made for an excellent psychological thriller with surprises right up to the end.

Thank you!

Domestic noir with lots of twists. English teacher, Joe Lynch, narrates the story and transpires to be a likeable if rather gullible character who gets embroiled in a series of events which see him ultimately accused of murder.
En route home with his young son he sees his wife Mel's car entering a hotel car park. With 5 year old William keen to see Mummy, Joe follows the car and they enter the hotel. He sees his wife remonstrating with Ben, a family friend. Not sure what is going on he confronts Ben in the car park after Mel has left and there is a scuffle which changes Joe's life for ever.
Themes in the book include use of social media and technology and how both affect our lives, often not in a good way. People always believe what they see online, whether it is a true reflection of events or not.
The author also examines trust within a marriage, between Joe and Mel as well as between Ben and his wife Beth. Things are not always as they seem and Joe finds himself being lied to by those he trusts most.
The book kept me guessing till the end- in fact Joe seemed a reliable narrator but there was a part of me which kept asking can I trust him?
It was a quick read and although a lot happens in the book, the main story takes place over the course of a week and each section is given the title of a day. This makes the plot very fast moving.
An enjoyable book for fans of The Girl On The Train and Gone Girl. This is a debut and I shall certainly be looking out for T.M. Logan's next novel when it is published.

Brilliant. This novel had me gripped the whole way through. I am still reeling from the ending. I was totally blindsided by it. This novel is about secrets and revenge and the lengths people will go to for love. It is brilliantly written. Want to read it again to see what clues I missed the first time.

I know it's early, but Lies is one of my favorite reads of 2017 so far! I just loved it! Lies follows Joe Lynch, who is approaching is 10 year wedding anniversary with his wife, Mel. Together, they share a 4 year old son, William. One day, on his way home from picking up his son, he spots his wife's car. William wants to surprise her and say hi, so they follow her into a parking garage of a hotel. What they see is Mel clearly in a heated argument with her best friend Beth's husband Ben.

Mel leaves the hotel and drives off before he can ask her what happened, so he confronts Ben instead, and things become violent. Ben is knocked out on the pavement, bleeding from his head, but Joe's son starts having an asthma attack, and he's forced to drive home to get his inhaler...after returning to the parking garage, Ben and his car are gone.

Now Ben is missing, and Joe has started receiving increasingly threatening messages. How did he manage to get caught up in a missing person's investigation, and why is his wife lying about what happened in the hotel? All will be answered by the end of the book!

I was hooked on Lies from page one! I really just couldn't put it down. I think I read it in about two sittings, because I was dying to find out. I loved Joe and his son Will. I think their characters were well developed, and I was rooting for him, even though there were definitely times where he seemed a little naive, however I think that was natural. Not everyone is ridiculously suspicious of everyone in their life when there has been no reason to not trust them in the past.

Without giving anything away, I'll also say that I LOVED the ending! I'd been trying the entire book to put all of the puzzle pieces together, and hadn't managed it, so the end came as a total surprise for me, and it was perfect. I put the book down and immediately messaged a fellow blogger who had also read the book to tell her I'd finished the book and "OMG!!!!" - I immediately needed to talk to someone about it!

If you're looking for a fast paced psychological thriller, this is the book for you! I highly recommend it, and can't wait to hear what you think!

A huge thank you to Netgalley, TM Logan, and the publisher, Bonnier Zaffre, for an advanced copy of Lies. It was my pleasure to provide an honest review. The expected publication date for Lies is May 4, 2017 so mark your calendars!

I really enjoyed this novel. I kept thinking that I knew what was really going on but in the end was so surprised. Great complex characters that make you love them and hate them at the same time. (Everyone stop lying!l )

Lies is an excellent psychological domestic noir. I read it almost in one sitting which is a good sign. The story begins with Joe suspecting his wife of having an affair with her best friend's husband and quickly escalates into something far more menacing. He finds himself set up as a murder suspect and meantime has to work out whether his wife is lying to him and how someone is able to track his every movement.

This is a book for a generation where life is ruled by technology: mobile phones and computers play a large part in Lies. I enjoyed the fact that the main character was a man who was scared for his life rather than a woman, as in most stories of this genre. Joe is a reliable narrator which I also felt added strength to the narrative. My only disappointment was the twist at the end. I didn't guess it but felt it was rather unrealistic and so have given only 4* not 5*. Thanks to Netgalley and Twenty7 for the opportunity to read and review Lies.

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book as an arc. Wow, that was some book! Psychological thrillers are all the rage at the moment but this one really stands out due to the reader actually caring about the characters. Joe stumbles upon a scene he doesn't quite understand, he leaves because his son is ill and after that things are never the same again. His world is crumbling around him and we don't find out exactly what is going on until near the end of the book. Plenty of twists and turns throughout, you won't want to put this book down. Excellent book, I loved it.

Everyone Lies, Everyone has secrets. Joes Lynch is just about to find out that just about his whole life is a lie.

Soppy, old before his time, average Joe. To be honest it was no wonder what happened to him did. Joe Lynch is a wet lettuce of the highest order and by god he needs a slap to wake him up. He got it.

This book has been likened to one of my favorite authors Tom Bale and to be fair I can see the comparison. Both are high energy in your face danger and tension from the first page and the writing is very good in particular the dialogue. However the ending was a let down for me, it was like watching an episode of the BBC show "Death In Paradise" and that isn't a bad thing by the way, its just that we spend the whole book filled with tension and not knowing who is telling the truth then on a train journey back our average Joe slots all the clues into place becomes a cross between Sherlock Holmes and Action Man and nearly everyone lives happily ever after.

Having said that I really did enjoy this book, it was so nearly a 5* and despite being a former Daily Mail Journalist I would definitely read more of T M Logans writing. It did everything a book of this genre should and if I stop being a picky so and so it did have a unexpected, if somewhat mad ending.

1.5

Lies is a psychological thriller told through the perspective of a male character. Joe is married to Mel and they have a 5 year old boy, William. She is very career oriented while Joe's main focus is the family. Therefore, he takes up most of the responsibilities concerning their child's upbringing.

One evening, Joe and his son spot Mel's car entering a hotel. Intrigued by such sighting, Joe follows his wife and witnesses her having a heated discussion with Ben, a family friend, in the hotel lobby.

A bit later, Joe approaches Ben in the hotel car park and their encounter takes a violent turn. Joe sees himself having to push Ben, who falls banging his head. Ben obviously needs help but, at that exact moment, William has an asthma attack. Father and son have to rush home but Joe does so promising himself that as soon as the boy is OK he'll return and help the family friend. However, when Joe manages to get back to the hotel, Ben and his car are gone. And strange posts start to appear on Joe's Facebook profile...

While the premise of the story is a great one - lies and mistrust in a relationship plus the effect of social media on one's life - is great, I did not like the execution much. It required far too much suspension of disbelief - (view spoiler)

Apart from that, there are quite a few inconsistencies in the text which did affect my enjoyment of the story. I am not sure whether these are to be corrected prior to publication but based on the ARC I read I am afraid I can't really recommend this book.

I was initially drawn to the cover of this book and then once I read the synopsis I knew it was one I had to read.

Lies is the story of an average man, who lives an average life and is perfectly happy with his lot. Then one day he sees his wife somewhere that she shouldn’t be and the story ramps up from there.

I did work out how this novel going to end part-way through, apart from one aspect of it, but it was actually really satisfying to be right and thinking back over the novel it did feel like all the clues were laid out for me to figure it all out. Sometimes thrillers have an ending that it’s impossible to work out and it can leave you feeling like it was just plucked from the ether but not this novel. It has a satisfying ending too, which I appreciated.

None of the characters in this book were particularly likeable but that really worked within the story because it meant that I really didn’t know who to trust throughout the novel.

I did find myself getting a bit annoyed at certain points in the novel where a character (no spoilers) seems quite tech-savvy in one moment and then in the next misses a really obvious thing that they could do, which would really help them. It took me out of the story a little when this happened but it’s possibly just me being picky and maybe the character just isn’t thinking logically due to the stress of the situation.

This is a novel that makes you think about the things you put out on social media, and whether you can ever really know a person just by what they write on their Facebook page. It also makes you think about the decisions you make and how things may have ended up completely different if you’d just not seen something, or reacted in a certain way. It highlights how those decisions we make in an instant can have such far-reaching consequences. I really enjoyed this aspect of the book.

This is a very fast-paced thriller. The story moves forward in every chapter and it never slows down for a second. It did have me hooked and wanting to know what was going to happen next. This isn’t a complex thriller but it is fun, quick read that I would recommend and I’m looking forward to reading whatever TM Logan publishes next.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Lies is due to be released in ebook format on 17 January, and in paperback on 4 May 2017.

From the moment that Joe Lynch followed his wife’s car to a hotel car park, this book had me hooked.

Joe wasn’t intending to follow his wife. He was driving his young son home when William spotted his mother’s car. Joe decided to follow and surprise her. However Joe was the one that ended up with the surprise!

This story tells of how one split second decision can completely change your life and turn it on its head. When you realise that the foundations of your safe and comfortable life are built on a lie and you are helpless as it falls to dust around you. Add in the complexities and dangers of social media and you have one heck of a twisted story.

I raced through Lies at every opportunity and didn’t want to put it down. I took an instant liking to Joe and was rooting for him all the way. He was an ordinary husband with an ordinary job who loved his family and he certainly didn’t deserve the whole heap of trouble that landed on his head. There were times when I was berating him for being too trusting and perhaps, rather naïve but then if you had no reason to suspect someone you would trust them.

This was a cracker of a read with some excellent characterisations and as you may have guessed from the book description and tagline, has many twists and turns. I’m not going to say what or where they are – you need to read it for yourself but if you like a fast paced story that will take you on a rollercoaster of a read, then this is a book that I have no hesitation in recommending. I really enjoyed this debut thriller and can’t want to see what the author comes up with next.

My thanks to Bonnier Zaffre for the Netgalley ARC to review.

Quick, well written thriller with some nice twists.

It begins as a chance encounter, Joe Lynch spotting his wife driving through town as he is driving their son home. It then leads to an unexpected confrontation and a scuffle between friends. That scuffle leaves one man unconscious and the other rushing his son to hospital.

There is unfinished business but before Joe can start to sort out the damage he has done he will find he has bigger problems to contend with. But how is Joe going to sort out the mess that his life has become if he is surrounded by people that he no longer feels he can trust? Can he see through the LIES?

TM Logan’s debut thriller, LIES, is a humdinger of a read. It made me uncomfortable. It made me angry (for Joe, at Joe and about what was happening TO Joe). It made me feel bad for a character in one chapter then made me vexed with that same character in the very next chapter. It is nicely paced, well balanced and a damned good thriller with some clever wee twists that caught me out.

Lies comes highly recommended for fans of domestic thrillers. You will never quite be sure if you can trust anyone and there are characters you will warm to only for them to do something which you will find upsetting. Ready for an emotional whirlpool? Then you are ready for Lies.

This is a really great well written debut novel.

I must admit this book didn't grip me straightaway. I found myself wondering would the pace pick up and holy wowzers it certainly did pick up. This book even pushed me into posting updates on goodreads and twitter while I was reading it ( funny considering how much social media was involved in this story)

I liked Joe and really felt for him when he was going through some really tough times. The relationship with his son William was lovely. I wasn't too keen on Mel from the start. Couldn't put my finger on it. Kept shouting at her in my head to help her husband out... to do something!

Lies lies lies. As the title hints this story is based on what could happen when lies build up.

I was certainly interested in the social media aspect of this story. We don't think twice when we post a status or share a photo but there can be some repercussions.

In my opinion the book stepped up a pace for me in the second half. I had some omg moments that had my head dizzy. I kept trying to guess how it would end but I failed. The twist was fab.

I'm so glad I didn't give up on this one. Really looking forward to seeing what else this author has in store for us.

My thanks to Bonnier Zaffre and the author for allowing me to read this.

Thank you TM Logan and Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
For the second time this week I am tempted to write the exact same review. Wow what a lot of amazing new talent we are about to have the privileged to read in 2017.
This novel could indeed be one of the best psychological thrillers of the year. So many times I yelled at my book "NO don't do that", and then by the last page I was so utterly gobsmacked by the twist that I was shaking my head in wonder. I was totally blindsided by the twist, even though I had imagined so many different outcomes - this was not it.
Do yourself a favour and read this brilliant new author of 2017

I’ve just finished reading TM Logan’s outstanding and very well-written debut, ‘LIES’. Frankly, I have to say, it’s a relief to have finished it. The book was so gripping I genuinely found it hard to put down to the extent it interfered with my own writing schedule as I shunned my laptop in favour of keeping those pages turning!
I enjoyed reading from a male protagonist’s point of view. Joe could be infuriating at times and as the reader I often wanted to shake him. But then that was also part of his endearing qualities and made him more believable. After all, this is a guy who has worked as a teacher all his career and has lived a very ordinary life, devoted to his family.
All the characters were well-developed and although not all were likeable, they were very believable. The storyline raises some valid and important issues about technology and social media that made me think.
What I liked most of all about the book is that it is a consistent domestic thriller – my favourite sort. It doesn’t deviate into a high-octane thriller and become something else.
The tension builds towards the end and I certainly did not expect the final twist which was a thrilling conclusion.
I absolutely recommend this book!
