I really enjoyed this book while I was reading it! The characters were fun, the whole premise was deeply entertaining, and the little touches were spot on. I had so much fun just being along for the ride.

BUT. I honestly couldn't give you an accurate timeline, even right after I put the book down. I couldn't tell you exactly what happened, let alone when or how. As much as I enjoyed the process of reading this book, I thought Stohl did herself a massive disservice with just a few too many plot twists and time hops.

For the life of me, I still can't decide if I would recommend this book. I think that means the answer is no.

Sigh.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley to read in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a bit hard to get through since it was way over-the-top reality tv in LA, and I felt like several situations were forced/ laid on too thickly. However, the last 25% of the book made up for the first third. You find out later how many layers of planning go into the reality tv season 6. The romance part was hard to buy, but the ending was cute. Though the protagonist was 17, I would recommend this to preteens/ tweens age group.

This book is well suited to teenagers into reality tv. I had difficulty getting in to the story and then staying with it. I admire the authors ability to keep the characters straight when they became so muddled in the story. A more youthful reader may be better able to keep up with the unpredictable changes in characters and story presentation. I found the basic plot idea entertaining, but I just don't think it is written for me. Thanks to Netgalley for sending me an early copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I really did enjoy this book after I quit reading all the script notes and hashtags. I love a happy ending and feel that this book gives some insight into reality television.

Hello, fellow bloggers! I’ve just finished reading Royce Rolls by Margaret Stohl. It’s about a family and the reality tv show, Rolling withe Royces, that follows their lives. The only snag is that one of the family members, Bentley, does not want to play by the show's rules anymore and has to decide what she wants if it isn’t being on the hit reality tv show, Rolling with the Royces- and what she’ll do to make that happen. After reading the excerpt, I thought to myself, this is a subject you love, the going-ons of reality tv! Once I read it though, I had slightly different feelings about it.

The fact is that I just couldn’t get behind the logic of the book. It was very confusing, between the sudden personality changes of characters to the lack of resolution of their problems. I couldn’t follow how the aftermath and flashbacks were related in some cases as well as the development of characters barely being explained at all. Like Bentley’s mother, Mercedes, making an overnight transformation from distant to loving. I know by throwing in the mothering into her cold personality was supposed to make her more complex and less like this evil one-dimensional character, but all it did was make me wonder what actually caused it. Was it the show or was Mercedes finally waking up and realizing she needed to treat her kids better? Either way, we aren’t given an answer, which I find to be really sad. Or the problems that Bach and Bentley faced because of this reality show. After reading this book, I still don’t know how the ending even plays out for them. What does it mean for their show? Does Bentley get everything she wanted? Although, that might have been more due to the fact that I probably wasn't paying as much attention at this pint.

But there were good parts. The beginning and ending of the book were really interesting and the only reason I even read the middle part of the book in the first place. There was just so much mystery and intrigue surrounding it that I couldn’t help but read those parts, even if I didn’t get the reasoning at times. That and having the lines blurred between real and reality tv in this book, whether it was facts or characters' personalities, made this book more enjoyable!

Overall, while Royce Rolls was interesting enough, there wasn’t enough backstory or sufficient development for it to make sense, even as we got a behind the scenes kind of story.

Thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for the advance copy. Cute. Not a big reality TV fan so I had a hard time getting into this. But Bentley really started to grow on me. All and all, a good read. I do think the intended audience, teens, will enjoy it. I appreciate that it pulls back the curtain on the belief that "reality TV" is real

I was pleasantly surprised by how much substance there was to this story, especially Bentley's wish to direct the course of her life. It wasn't quite a five-star book - in particular, I thought the footnotes didn't add much to the story - but I stayed up past 1:00 a.m. last night so I could find out what happened. While I guessed a few of the plot twists, some surprised me completely. It was romantic without being cheesy, which I appreciate. Overall, I felt it was well done.

Would strongly recommend this books to fans of reality tv or those who enjoy books written with email/memos/alternate format - most likely would resonate with teens but probably not adults who read YA. Not my favorite from this author, who I really admire.

Entertaining and witty (even if you don't care for reality TV) due to the engaging writing style and unique characters.

Bentley Royce has the life of luxury: she owns a Bentley, enough money to attend a private school and go on expensive vacations, and a family reality TV show entitled Rolling With the Royces. However, after five years on the show, she wants out, and this seems possible when it is on the brink of being cancelled. Bentley realizes, though, that without the show, there is no family, and in order to save her family, she must save the show. Will she be able to do it or lose her family forever?

Royce Rolls is a light, tongue-in-cheek read that should appeal to middle and high school age readers, as well as young adults.
