This account of Amani's coming-of-age story as a Muslim girl is such an important read. When Islamophobia seems to only be growing worse, it's so essential to publish stories like this.
A touching and interesting read that can give a different and important POV on recent events and how we see anyone considered "different" in this country.
When you read this you can't help but cheer her on. She's overcome so many obstacles and faced things that most of us can never imagine.
A fascinating and honest perspective on the Muslim American experience beginning with 9/11. It was very eye opening to read about her experience of 9/11, not only as a child, but as a Muslim child; then moving on to the present day ban/wall under the Trump regime. There are things this young woman has to think about to move through her daily life, that I as an older, white woman never have to consider. Incredibly thought provoking.
I had a hard time getting into this book. Instead of just telling her story, the author told a piece, analyzed that piece, put that analysis into a bigger picture and then told another piece of the story. I wanted to analyze her experiences myself and quickly grew frustrated with the writing style. Since I did not finish this book, I do not intend to publish a review.
