Classic Kinsella! A very cute, funny, lighthearted read. I really enjoyed it. If you are in the mood for a book like that, pick up this book.

Sophie Kinsella is always a treat. Easy reads, but always thoroughly enjoyable. This was a fun reminder of the importance we place on our 'online self' and the effect that has on our REAL self.

Kinsella has been on my list of auto approved authors for dependable reads; she is the chocolate cake of books in the sense that her stories always bring me comfort and a smile to my face.

My Not So Perfect Life is the newest book by Sophie Kinsella. I was always look forward to her books, as they're typically the light reads I'm wanting while sitting by a lake in the summer time. I've yet to be lakeside, sadly, but I did thoroughly enjoy this book. I wasn't the biggest fan of her last book, but this one was much better! I had a hard time putting it down, and that's really saying something for a chick lit title.

My rating: 4 stars

I think, at age 41, I may have finally outgrown Sophie Kinsella books. When I was younger, I loved her Shopaholic series. But the few I've read since then have left me a bit wanting, and this one, I have decided not to finish. Not because it wasn't well-written; it is entertaining and sweet.. but they have become too formulaic for my taste. I am quite certain that the spunky, young protagonist will start to have success at work, suffer some sort of set-back, spend too much money, learn a lesson with the help of her funky friends, and end up with success, and her man, in the end. I prefer a bit more of a challenge!

Sophie Kinsella is at it again! This book was so much fun! It had all of Kinsella's staples: embarrassment, awkwardness, romance, and lovable characters. But most importantly, this book had CHARACTER GROWTH! Yes, I said it! Although there is romance, it is not the main focus of this book. Instead, the friendship between two not-so-perfect people took center stage, and I'm so glad it did!

This book gave me all of the feels.

"Part love story, part workplace drama, this sharply observed novel is a witty critique of the false judgments we make in a social-media-obsessed world. New York Times bestselling author Sophie Kinsella has written her most timely novel yet.

Everywhere Katie Brenner looks, someone else is living the life she longs for, particularly her boss, Demeter Farlowe. Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes. Katie’s life, meanwhile, is a daily struggle—from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to the tense office politics she’s trying to negotiate. No wonder Katie takes refuge in not-quite-true Instagram posts, especially as she's desperate to make her dad proud.

Then, just as she’s finding her feet—not to mention a possible new romance—the worst happens. Demeter fires Katie. Shattered but determined to stay positive, Katie retreats to her family’s farm in Somerset to help them set up a vacation business. London has never seemed so far away—until Demeter unexpectedly turns up as a guest. Secrets are spilled and relationships rejiggered, and as the stakes for Katie’s future get higher, she must question her own assumptions about what makes for a truly meaningful life.

Sophie Kinsella is celebrated for her vibrant, relatable characters and her great storytelling gifts. Now she returns with all of the wit, warmth, and wisdom that are the hallmarks of her bestsellers to spin this fresh, modern story about presenting the perfect life when the reality is far from the truth."

I always love a non-Shopaholic Sophie Kinsella book!

Katie (Cat) Brenner is trying to make her way in London, working at a branding agency and fulfilling her Instagram with wishful thinking. Her flatmates seems horrible, her job seems thankless and life seems to be on hold. The boss from hell scenario plays out well, with scatter brained but brilliant Demeter running the office. Once Katie's fired, the story picks up steam as she heads home to Somerset and her father's farm, all the while hiding the fact that she has been sacked. I loved the second section of the book. Her dad and stepmom Biddy were great characters and the idea to turn their farm into a glamping site plays out very well. This is where Kinsella shines, just when you though this would be another Becky-like character, Katie comes into her own, in a way that makes me wish this would hit the big screen. It turns out, in looking at her booklist, I've read all of Kinsella's books, except for her young adult one. I may have to make time for that as I wait for her next, always fun, novel

Thank you for the opportunity to review this title. Unfortunately I didn't connect to this particular story and didn't continue. As I didn't finish, I won't be reviewing the title as we don't review DNF's on the blog. I've adored the previous works of this author and look forward to reading more titles from her.

I love Kinsella's books. Her characters are always so likable despite their flaws. The characters are completely relatable and I could easily imagine Cat as one of my best friends. The book was predictable at times, but you know you're in for a fun time. The romance in this one wasn't my favorite, but the other relationships made it well worth the read.

Katie is struggling to live the perfect London life she pretends she is Instagram, which is further complicated when she's fired from the advertising agency she works for. Katie moves home to Somerset and she and her family start a glamping business. Hijinx ensue. One of Sophie Kinsella's better novels (the Shopaholic series made me cringe and I couldn't finish any of them). Fun and sweet.

From the outside, Katie Brenner seems to have a perfect life. She lives in London. Everyone thinks at the most fantastic job, and everyone also thinks her apartment is just as great. The actual truth is that she is just an admin, and her apartment us teeny tiny. But ofcourse that is something that she doesn't post on Instagram. Only her fake fabulous live makes the cut for that.

And then her not-so-perfect real life house of cards crashes into an even more trouble when her even more perfect and powerfull boss Demeter fires her.
Away is her financial security, what to do now?
Her widowed father, who lives with his new wife on a farm in the countryside, invites her over to stay there for a while to help them with the marketing of their new bed and breakfast at the farm. Because she doesn't want to hurt his feelings, she doesn't tell him anything about her current situation. While she stays there, she applies to jobs, but without succes. Luckily she can stay at the farm as long as she likes, and even more now the bed and breakfast is up and running and her dad can use as many help as possible. But then a guest arrives: it's Demeter, her boss from London! Now she soon will be uncovered.
Katie goes into full farm-girl disguise, and this gives her the chance to put Demeter into her place and go on a little revenge mode. But soon she finds out that under Demeter's well build up polished world, a very insecure woman is hiding, just like herself. Things get even worse when another coworker appears at the farm for a little stay, and when he confesses to Katie he is only there to fire Demeter, she goes out of her way to help Demeter, but will everything will go according to plan?

My Not So Perfect Life is a nice new novel by bestselling author that we all know from the Shopaholic series, Sophie Kinsella. Altough it was good, it missed the laugh-out-loud moments that the other books by her have. I just missed that in this one. Maybe it wasn't intended to be the same kind of comedy, but with this author you somehow expect it.
Further on it was the usual clumsy main character, somehow this is always a returning aspect of Sophie Kinsella's book, but luckily she finds out her bos is just as normal as her in real life, that was fun! There is also a little romance going on between her and her coworker Alex who also stays at the farm later on. It was cute but just the usual stuff.

Overall nice and at some points entertaining, altough it isn't the strongest book by Sophie Kinsella.

Social media is an absolute wonder. It creates a sense of instant gratification. It connects you with millions of strangers.

All with the click of a button.

Yet, it also creates this image of "the perfect life" that no one can achieve AND be human.

Social media or obsessing over your identity over those platforms leaves room to puppet string or enlarge our deepest fears and insecurities as people.

The greatest thing is this book used that notion to tell a story of twenty-something English-farmgirl Katie Brenner, who after graduating from college, reinvents herself and loses her country accent to appear more high-society. Her new identity? London city girl named Cat. This is all so she can fit the mold of those around her while working at an ad agency as a junior associate with dreams of being a project manager.

This book really makes you take a second look at societal norms, relationship standards in today's dating world, and most deeply, the imperfect human condition that should be more accepted and less altered.

Overall, the reader will leave this book realizing that things and people are not always prim and proper as they appear.

I've read all Sophie Kinsella's book and am hooked on her witty dialogue and brilliant plots. This book revolves around an engaging young woman, Katie, whose life is light years away from her dreams. Its not a surprise when her "not-quite-true" Instagram posts paint a different picture. Katie's world turns upside when she's fired and she finds herself back in Somerset. But things have a way of turning out for the feisty Katie. Another winner!

Another hit for Sophie Kinsella. She writes such fleshed out fully developed characters, they feel like people you know, or want to know. A fun book from stRt to finish, if a bit predictable. Thank you.

Ah! Sophie Kinsella! No one has the knack of making me actually hurt with embarrassment for a character like Sophie Kinsella---while in the next breath making me LOL or trip my heart with pure glee! I do so love this author and My Not So Perfect Life is another tale of crazy and wonderful. This book was such a great distraction book that just left a smile on my face:-)

I was expecting more out of this book. While the hijinks and general concept were fun, the main characters both felt too caricature-ish to be believable. I'd like to have seen social media play a bigger role in the plot.
