I just didn't understand this book. It did not seem to have a point.

The book is visually stunning. The ending was a bit lacking for me. I wanted him to find his arm or at least find something that a good substitute that hadn't been tried out and dismissed earlier.

I loved the black and creme art scheme in this book. It's a simple story about a robot who - you guessed it- loses his arm. I think little kids will enjoy it.

Can You Find My Robot's Arm is a wonderful picture book for little ones. Poor robot has woken up to find that one of his arms are missing. The book leads us on many silly ventures of trying to find his other arm. The robot tries on numerous different items to see if they will work as a replacement. The different objects shall lead to lots of laughter and silliness among little readers. The cut-out black and white illustrations are superb, creating fun images and I adored the simplicity. This title would be GREAT for storytime and could certainly be re-done as a felt-board story as well, recreating the objects from the story. I absolutely adored it.

What does amputation mean for a robot? If robots dream of electric sheep, do they also experience PTSD and suffer the pain of phantom limbs? Luckily, for children, Chihiro Takeuchi asks and answers none of those questions in his light spirited book, Can You Find My Robot’s Arm? Instead, a robot loses his arm and his small robot buddy tries to help him find a replacement.

I really like the artwork in this book. Everything is a silhouette. I’m not sure if it’s cut paper or drawn, but it’s cool. I’ll share a few more images that I enjoyed from the book.

If you like robots, have tiny humans that enjoy books, and you like the cool artwork and it’s fun negative space, check out Can You Find My Robot’s Arm.

One morning, my robot woke up to discover he had lost his arm..." and so the delightful story begins. Before I even got to see this book I was taken in by the title...Can You Find My Robot's Arm? It sounded fun and engaging and I looked forward to what was beyond the front cover.

The book did not disappoint, with simple one colour pages from the text and black and cream used for the illustrations. The story is simple and engaging but the illustrations provide the real engagement in the book. They are involved but simplistic and everywhere the eye looks there is something interesting to see. On One page there are a heap of fish and I know if I was to read this to a child there would be a lot of discussion about all the different types of fish including the mechanical parts in the BIG fish.

You are probably thinking fish in a story about looking for a robot's arm? That is the joy of this book, it is whimsical and imaginative, the author has really captured fun and out of the box thinking in this book. For example Lollipop arms is just one of the arms that is offered to robot. Does he choose it though....you will have to read the book to see.

I highly recommend this book and think it will be a great read in both a group and one on one setting. I think the children will have fun engaging with this book and being intrigued by the illustrations.
I look forward to reading more from Chihiro Takeuchi.

Robot is having a bad day. He lost his arm and can't tell where to find it. His Robo pet tries his best to give him a hand to locate it but alas they are unable to discover its whereabouts.

They then get a brilliant idea... why not to try a substitute arm... now that may help. They try a fork replacement ...will that work? No, afraid not. A broom? A pencil? A fish bone? A lollipop? Ah ha....a pair of scissors will do the trick nicely, yes? No..... none of these random objects suffice. Poor Robot what is he to do without his beloved arm?

The duo then decide to widen their net and explore outside their house. They scour the garden, the amusement park, the library, even a sweet shop, just to cite a few. Any luck you suppose? No. Nada. None. Where oh where can Robot's arm be? This is very puzzling indeed. It could not have just disappeared into thin air.

Will Robot ever find his dearly loved arm? He really is attached to it... mmmm... or was! Kids will love the silliness of the tale and both kids and adults will ogle at the intricacy and beauty of the amazing handcut images that drive the story home.

This is a wonderful book... and I highly recommend it... hands down.

What? Weird.

While I liked the minimalist art, the minimalist story left a little to be desired.
