“I should have killed her already. It was my job, the thing I was hired to do. . . I was an assassin, and Jane Jones was my target.”
A supernatural being is hunting another supernatural being, only to fall in love with her. Other supernatural beings, with callbacks to previous stories, either help or hurt, depending on how they feel that day. The story begins in London 100 years ago before moving to present day NY, with the connecting device a mystical hotel where non-humans can have an erotic vacation.
There’s some explanation of the earlier story, but not enough; might have been better without it. Some good moments, but mostly meh. This doesn’t know if it’s a fantasy revenge chase story or an erotic romance.
2.5 pushed up to 3/5

Solid 3.5 stars...

I would give this a solid 3.5 stars. I really liked this book and I thought it was a complete new take for me on a paranormal, shifter Vampire story. I liked the character building and the world the author created. I thought Jane was relatable and tragic all at the same time. She was definitely the type of girl you root for. Grey also was intriguing and I want to more about him.

In all it was a fun short read but I couldn't help feel it could have been more. I never really got answers to some questions...What exactly is Grey? Who were the people that held Jane prisoner, why? Where did Jane come from?

For me I wanted more, simply because it intrigued me and I liked the characters. I know there is a book about Woe...I might pack my tissues and read that next

A little slow to start but the mysterious beginning definitely built mood. Sexier than I expected and enjoyable. I generally like modern fantasy and this had a little bit of a Charles de Lint vibe that appealed to me.

Definitely need to hunt down more by this author.
