Political Polemics! I received this book free from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. Written by seasoned attorney Mike Papantonio in 2016, and published by SelectBooks, Inc., this page turner is as much political polemic as it is legal thriller. The author’s political views (Progressive) are evident on almost every page. Although much of what he writes is probably true and accurate, it detracted from some of the entertainment value of the story for me to be reading about all of the political evils that plague our country while trying to enjoy a work of fiction.

Nevertheless, I found this novel to be mildly entertaining and easy to read. Loose ends seem to develop as the plot moves along, but the author ties them all up neatly by the end of the story. The door is left open for another story in a series, and I will certainly want to read it when it appears. I particularly enjoyed the courtroom drama, but then — I like that sort of thing.

If you like stories about lawyers, and especially if they have a tinge of politics in them, then you will probably like this book. The editing is smooth, the dialogue is believable, and the pace is steady.

I have to say, this book frustrated me a little, though I do still think it is well written and has a nice pace to it. However, the start of the book really gears you up for a high profile mass tort case lead by Deke against a major drugs company but then this resolves itself quite quickly and the book moves on to other matters. There are three main legal battles in this book but I felt none really got the time they deserved and this left me as reader feeling a little disappointed and, overall, it was a bit of an anti-climax. The author deals with the legal explanations in a very easy to understand way, I just wish each of the legal stories had gone a bit further.

This story about a corporate lawyer taking on corrupt corporate giants has been done many times before and sometimes these stories become redundant. This book however had a cache of interesting characters and the writing was crisp to keep you engaged throughout. I would recommend this if you're a fan of legal thrillers.

Yes, I could get glimpses of John Grisham in this book. However, I found while reading this book, I did not get so bogged down with lots of details and conversation. Deke is not only a hard fighting attorney but a family man. I appreciated this fact. It brought him into a different light with giving him a soul as well as being relatable and likable at the same time..

I was rooting for Deke the whole time. Not that it was hard to do with him taking on the big, bad pharmaceutical company. I briefly was aware that companies conducted their own studies but to hear it mentioned in this book was eye-opening. Consumers should be aware that the promotions that products have area really from the company looking for their best interest. Deke surrounds himself with good, smart people. A nonstop fast read. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
