This was a very gripping book. I didn't want to put it down. I love stories where the main character has to fight for themselves and their closest while learning who they are. I love stories about the Bishops. This was just awesome! I can't wait for more!

Not my cup of tea. I am so removed from high school, is not even funny. Sorry :(

This book was very magical for me! I loved it! This is a great YA book for any age. Emily moves to a new town and meet the "mean girls" of the school who have control of all the boys. That is until Emily arrives! It is a very witchy book with a great bit of magic and intrigue. "I received this book from Netgalley--this is my honest review*

This book captured me from the beginning. Rebecca Hamilton seems to have some insight into the typical teenager mind, even though the teenagers in this book are anything but typical. She manages to weave together the mundane and normal with the magical and mysterious to bring us a wildly entertaining story. The characters are strong and the story flows smoothly. She keeps you guessing right up u til the end.

If you love The Craft with a touch of Mean Girls thrown in this should really appeal to you. That description on paper sounds like my dream book but it didn't excite me as much as it should have. I did enjoy it but I felt it started dragging a bit towards the end. There is a nice romance though and some juicy family secrets and I would certainly recommend it to people who enjoy a spellbinding read.

This was a really fast, easy read. It's one of those reads for when you want something light and quick to get through. The story is interesting and had me trying to guess what was happening which was fun. The characters were entertaining and I didn't really have any issues with this book. But it was just an okay kind of read. Not bad just okay. Now the way it ended definitely leaves you wanting more and to understand what happens next. Not sure if this is a stand alone or part of a series but if there was more I wouldn't mind seeing what else happens.

Romantic adventure with a magical twist that has you page turning like there is no tomorrow! Voodoo rights and grudges that go all the way back to the Salem witch trials make for a dangerous and heart pounding riddle.

This Paranormal Romantic Journey sets high school drama on its ear and makes you long for the days when fashion was the worst worry you had. Emily struggles with a gift (or curse) that she has had all her life and is not quite sure what to make of it let alone how to help anyone with it. In walks Noah needing help in the worst possible way. Suddenly hiding out in the shadows till graduation is no longer the plan. Sparks fly as these two try to make it through high school not only alive but hopefully in control of their future.

Something Like Voodoo by Rebecca Hamilton is a story about a young girl who moves to Hackensack with her father after the sudden death of her mother. Emily has led a “dull” life but has really had no friends she expects this new move to another school to be no different. Things prove otherwise when she bumps into a handsome fellow senior on her very first day to this new school. Noah needs Emily’s help and quickly does his best to let her know because she’s a Bishop and he has been waiting on one to come along and help him out with this situation. What Emily doesn’t know is how he needs her help or why and the frustrating part is that he can’t tell her because he’s been magically bound to not be able to tell her or anyone else what is happening with him. Now it is up to Emily to learn what is going on and quickly before those that she cares about pay the cost in the most final way possible…death.
Something Like Voodoo is an engaging YA paranormal story with just the right amount of romance. In this story we’re introduced to Emily has she makes a move mid-year to a new town, a new house and a new high school. She really doesn’t expect to make any friends but she does make one. She also quickly makes an enemy of the high school’s top It Girl, Sarah, who warns Emily to stay away from Noah and does her best to make life hell so that she’ll stay away. But Noah knows that she can help and once she truly gets involved and begins to learn a variety of things from her new friend Heather she knows that she can’t just walk away especially when she encounters her mother’s spirit at an abandoned part of an asylum where Sarah often goes to practice her magic and recharge.
This book is very much engaging. It grabs you right from the get go and keeps you engaged the whole way through. I have to say that this is probably my favorite thus far. I love the dynamics between the characters. There is definitely a spark and chemistry between Emily and Noah though at times I wondered if she would really be his type or if he was just into her because Sarah’s voodoo couldn’t keep him from speaking to her. I love the mystery that is also involved in this story. Emily has to learn what all the connections and situations are that are binding Noah and that’s no easy task especially since in the beginning she has no clues and has to dig and delve herself. That is until the pieces begin to come together and then she learns that things are closer to her than she originally thought.
If I had one complaint it would be the ending. I am conflicted on it. I like it but then I don’t. LOL! But then again not every story is going to have a happy ending and let’s be honest that’s what I really like about this story is that there is no “happily ever after” the author leaves it open ended for more and let me just say I REALLY hope that there is more to come.
I give this story 5 out of 5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to read more in the future. This is a really engaging story that grips you from the beginning and keeps you reading all the way to the end. Plus, of course the author ties in the title with the story which is a big pet peeve of mine so two thumbs up all the way around.

Will Emily be able to save Noah?!

Emily Bishop has a secret, her drawings predict death.

After the death of her mother, she and her father moved to Hackensack for a new start. She runs into Noah on her first day of school and straight away, you can see that there is a connection between them.

I found the story line intriguing and the mystery that surrounds Noah just drew me in. Emily starts to piece it all together despite the odds against her.

I would describe this as a YA paranormal mystery and it is a relatively easy read.

I received this as an ARC which I have voluntarily read, however, I have now purchased my copy on Amazon AU.

Having read this author’s work before and enjoyed it, I requested this book as I was expecting the same great quality. I was not disappointed! Emily has transferred to a new school in the middle of her senior year, and no, it isn’t going well just like previous schools. She seems to have caught the eye of Noah, and fellow classmate Sarah is not happy. What Emily doesn’t realize at first is that there is much more going on beneath the surface, and things aren’t what they appear to be: Sarah has supernatural gifts just like she does and will use them in any way she can to get what she wants, up to and including murder. I was immediately drawn into the story from the first chapter. Emily is a very flawed character, but a very sympathetic one, and I really like her character growth throughout the book. Her relationship with Noah is very tender and shows how exciting and passionate your first love can be. Oh, and let’s not forget the mystery, action, magic, and curses that are also included and kept me engaged until the very end. And not to be overlooked, my favorite line in the book was “Too bad the cake is a lie.” For parents whose tweens or teenagers play video games that will get a huge laugh out of them. This is an all-around great YA book that will also thrill adults. Highly recommend!

Thanks to NetGalley, Bastei Entertainment and the author for the e-copy of the book. This same review will be posted on both Goodreads and Amazon.

Holy fricking cow! I think this is my new favorite from this author and yes I have read all her books but one lol. The world building and in depth characters are out of this world. I got an ARC of this from netgalley BUT it is on preorder!

I found myself on the verge of throwing my Kindle across the room several times because the main characters, Noah and Emily, were just so damned passive. For the first three quarters of the book they allowed Sarah and her evil minions to stomp all over them. They didn't start to take any real action until near the end of the book, after Emily's father was attacked. It was frustrating.

WOW! This book was awesome & I could not put it down! It has everything from teenage angst & romance to suspense & magic & action & is definitely a must read for paranormal fans wether a Rebecca Hamilton fan or not! From the first chapter you are hooked & must know what happens & why & how will it all turn out. This is a well written story with some great characters some of whom you may possibly relate to & others you will just love to hate.
