Captain Clint Hunter was a Navy SEAL and on a Navy SEAL Team. He was on vacation at his parents ranch in a muck filled filled hole where one of the cows was stuck. He was treating himself to a few days rest for the first time in years and now his boss was calling again. Than his pager went off and it was the SEAL base in Coronado. Clint went to go call his boss. These days SEALS were often found on land , or in the air as well as the water. The SEALS could be found in the desert or Arctic, or parachuting out of airplanes or helicopters. They continue to train or work in the water, but a high percentage of SEALS work these days was on land. Especially Clint’s team 11 which was deployed in anti terrorism and hostage situations. Emergencies were always dangerous- for the people they were sent to rescue and for her his men as well. His team included only the best, but anything could go wrong during a mission. Her father was the one in Clint’s large family that knew Clint was a SEAL and understood what that meant. Clint called his executive officer and former swim buddy-Matt Coller . Matt told Clint there was an emergency- hostage situation. They had to be in D C as soon as possible. They would get briefed there. Clint had a feeling this assignment wouldn’t be an easy one. Than Clint read the report he received from Matt on the plane he rented to get to the airport from the ranch. It said a female scientist was working on a classified weapons program for the government had not showed up for work . One of her colleagues tried to reach her by phone. No one picked up at her house and she still hasn't showed up at hours later. The Feds sent an armed unit to her home that she and her hubby shared. The house was empty but there was signs of a struggle. Her hubby was shocked and her neighbors, colleagues, friends, and acquaintances had been questioned. A demand for ransom came in and demanded five million for her release. Apparently her abductors knew who she was but they’d missed the memo about the U S government not negotiations with kidnappers or terrorists. The Victims location had been determined and a rescue team of SEALS was requested. Hostages never had it easy but women were especially at risk. Hopefully the abductors understood her value and would keep her alive and unharmed for a couple of days. But they may also use torture to induce her to share classified information. When Clint got to the mission brief there was his team but also several high-level government representation, an admiral and many important officers from the Army and Navy. Several FBI and Secret Services Agents. Than a FBI special agent explained the situation: Dr. Karen Lombard and knowledge gets into the wrong hands, a highly volatile crisis could ensue. They don’t know who did it but the FBI’s experts were working on identifying the perpetrator or perpetrators. There was also a thin nervous man that Clint didn’t recognize. It was Karen’s husband, he provided photos and information about his wife. Karen had a micro transmitter that she wears on a chain around her neck that always tells her location. Because of the transmitter they were able to ascertain their location. They appeared to be moving but they are in Costa Rica. They appeared to be traveling in a car or something similar. They will be easy to spot and probably find a place to spend the night in the next few hours. That was when Clint and his team may get an opportunity to get a fix on Mrs. Lombard and rescue her. Clint felt something wasn’t right. Costa Rica didn’t really fit the picture. Nor does the fact Dr. Lombard was attacked in her home. For the next hour they worked on a general rescue plan and ordered a transport plan to get them to Costa Rica as soon as possible. After returning from getting kidnapped the next four years Karen has “accidents” that almost took her life. Than Karen realizes they aren’t accidents someone is trying to kill her. She realizes who it is, the one person who is suppose to love her has betrayed her and goes to Clint for help. She then shows up on his doorstep bruised and he promises to protect her. He had left the Seals and went to work on his family's farm and it was harder for Karen to find Clint than she thought it would be. There was chemistry between Clint and Karen , and Clint had developed feelings for Karen when rescuing her but they never did anything because she was married.
I enjoyed this book. I loved the intrigue, suspense , and danger in this book. But i really didn’t care for the ending. I did confused at times while reading this. I think Shannon and Matt should have been in a separate book. I didn’t want to put this down. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.

Fast paced and filled with suspense and intrigue. I enjoyed the story itself, even though there were certain times where parts were improbable, and not believable...having sex while hiding in a cave because your being hunted by terrorists. Rather then taking the time for that, shouldn't you have, I don't know, be trying to put distance between you and the bad guys??

The story within the story of Matt and Shannon was distracting...they should have had their own story separate from Clint and Karen's. Not that I didn't like their story, but I found myself skipping the parts with the them in it to keep up with Clint and Karen...who I wish would have been the only focus.

Lastly, the ending was odd, not a cliff hanger, but just a strange way to end the story. I am giving the author the benefit of the doubt though since there may have been parts of the story that were confused or lost in translation.

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and Netgally, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

Good idea for the story but there was just too much going on between two different couples I prefer to just concentrate on one couple at a time.

I usually don't go out of my way to read romantic suspense. With that being said,I really enjoyed the storyline.Although it was fairly obvious that the husband was involved, there were enough twists and turns to keep me entertained and wanting to know more.In other words,I didn't want to put the book down. Fantastic read all around.

Karen is on the run from her husband and those who want to kill her. The only person she can trust is Clint and his team. Clint knows she is married and he should not have feelings for her but he does. Karen falls for Clint as well even with danger just around the corner. Awesome book. Can't wait to read more of this series.

The romantic suspense element was good. It was bizarre that Clint's family had no idea he had been a SEAL. There were several points of view that I didn't particularly care about - part of the story about Clint's sister and his friend, the point of view from Karen's husband wishing he hadn't gotten involved with the group that he did,
I was a little surprised he "fell" for Karen when he was rescuing her while she was married. It was also hard to believe Karen's husband would be married to her for so many years only for the hopes of money. The author tried to explain this, but it was still a surprisingly long time and he was exceptionally inept at trying to kill her. Seems like the story could have been tightened up.

So ... this book had me at the cover. Then I read the blurb and it seemed to be ticking all the boxes--romance, suspense, SEALs, crazy ex-husband. It set up an intriguing plot and one I couldn't wait to get into.

Hunter's Risk was definitely a good story. The plot kept me engaged, and there was the right amount of suspense thrown in with the romance. I felt the chemistry between Clint and Karen, and thought things between them developed well. The twists the story takes kept me hooked and I couldn't put it down until I reached the end.

However, saying that, it wasn't perfect. To begin with I wasn't sure I'd even get to the end. While the plot is good, the book could definitely use another content edit to tighten it. There was also a lot of repetition, overused adverbs, a few continuity errors, and spelling/grammatical typos that hindered my reading at times. I felt I was told the same thing quite a few times and there were sections I skimmed--the main one being Shannon's relationship. I thought those characters could have had their own book and they detracted from Clint and Karen.

Similarly, I felt that another content edit would help in cutting the word count so that there would have been more room to play with the ending. It all felt rather abrupt and didn't really give me the closure I wanted. As well as that, there were questions I was left with, for example why did Clint never tell his family? I wanted to see their reaction.

Anyway, despite all of that, the plot was strong enough to carry the book in my opinion. It did engage me and keep me hooked, I just think it has even more potential and could be a great read if cleaned up a bit more.
