I can not say enough good things about" The Seven Rules of Elvira Carr". This is truly a unique read. I fell in love with Elvira immediately and loved the story to the very end. I highly recommend this book to any one who wants an unusual story which pulls at one's heart strings and at the same time is a source of humor.

This review is long overdue and I'm sorry to give it a mediocre rating. I couldn't connect with the lead character and stopped reading half way through the book. I tried to go back and finish reading but I couldn't stay interested in the story.

I honestly could tell after the first half of the book that it wouldn't be a good fit for our box and had to put it down. I may read it again in the future!

Elvira or Ellie is left to look after herself when her mother goes in hospital. She lists seven rules to deal with the world as she is autistic. This is a lovely book that shows courage and gives the reader a character to root for.

"Seven Rules” is narrated by a differently-abled young woman, struggling to understand the ways of a world she is newly living in on her own. Elvira, or Ellie, organizes the lessons she has learned about how “NormalTypical” people behave into seven rules, complete with hints, useful phrases, and a checklist item for whether or not she has followed the rules.

The world is not particularly kind to people who are different, and the unkindnesses of Ellie’s world can be hard to read. Her courage, and unwavering determination are beautiful, though, and an inspiration!

I am not one to compare books but if you liked the Rosie Project you will equally enjoy this book. It is a fun and heartwarming story about being different, there are heartbreaking moments but well worth reading. This is an excellent book club selection. The story is well written and easy for the reader to follow. I enjoyed it tremendously.

Elvira is a young’s woman that has autism, she lived all her life with her controlling mother, until one day, after her mother ‘stroke, she creates seven rules that will help her navigate through society. This is a sweet story about how an awkward young autism woman, who doesn’t understand the world around her, navigates trough life. Is a bit slow but I highly recommend it.

A wonderful story about an autistic young woman who was highly sheltered by her mother with no living skills. Her greatest fear was to be institutionalized. With great internal reserve, she survives after her mother has a stroke and dies. I highly recommend this book for understanding another world beyond "normal".

An insightful view into the life of an adult woman with a condition that appears to be on the Autism spectrum, although it is never specified. This book has been compared to the Rosie Project but I believe this is a view from a different angle into the adult world of Autism. We watch Elvira deal with daily life and the complexities of "normal" conversation which is challenging for someone who deals in literal and only truths.
The scenes tended to abruptly change and sometimes it took me a couple of sentences to realize that time or location had changed. I wonder if the author was in some way using this technique to have the reader thrown off a little (figure of speech) to be able to better sympathize with Elvira. Definitely a book to add to your collection and pass on to other readers.
