It's been almost 20 years since I read the first books in the original Texas Cattleman's Club series and loved it. Two-Week Texas Seduction: Blackmail is a spin-off of that series and also the first book I've read by this author. I give it 4 stars.
Brandee Lawless is the heroine of this novel and she's not had an easy life. After being abandoned by her mother at birth and losing her ranch foreman father at the age of twelve, she's learned how to be independent the hard way. She's smart, she's tough, and she managed to make her fortune designing and selling a bohemian clothing line which took off. She then sold it and fulfilled a dream she shared with her father, owning and operating her own ranch--Hope Springs. In addition, she's opened her ranch and devoted her time to helping troubled teens by pairing them with therapy dogs, and is working to open Hope Springs Teen Camp.
Shane Delgado, the hero in this novel, had childhood issues with his rancher father and as a result, he hates ranching even though he does own the ranch which is his family legacy. His main interest, however, is in running his real estate development company which builds first class resorts and luxury housing for the wealthy. He's been flirting with Brandee for years (to no avail), while trying to get her to sell him her land, on which he wants to build more luxury housing. So far, she's resisted his charms and his offers, being well aware that he's not into commitment (nor is she), that he's quite a player, and that there's no way on earth she'd ever sell her ranch. At least until she receives a mysterious text message.
The text message in question is from Maverick--no one she knows, although she suspects 3 new female members of the Texas Cattlemen's Club (TCC), with whom she disagrees on remaking the Club. The message is a blackmail attempt, and contains quite a revelation. It alleges that her ranch and the land on which it sits really belong to Shane Delgado, and Maverick threatens that if she doesn't come up with $50K and resign from the TCC within the next two weeks, Shane will be informed of that fact, and she'll lose her ranch.
Brandee does her research and discovers that Maverick is correct, her ranch really does belong to the Delgado family, and she comes up with a plan to save the ranch she loves. She approaches Shane with a wager: move into her ranch for two weeks and work with her, it's calving season and she needs the extra help. If she wins, he gives up and signs away all current and future attempts to buy her ranch, and if she wins, she'll sell him her ranch for 10 million dollars, but there's one caveat. If her falls in love with her first, she wins and he gives up his attempts to acquire the ranch, but if she falls in love with him first, he wins, and she'll sell him the ranch.
Intrigued? So was I, and if you want to find out who wins the wager and what happens to these engaging characters, you'll just have to read this very entertaining novel. Be forewarned, although there's a HEA ending there's still a cliffhanger--the true identity of mystery blackmailer, Maverick, has yet to be discovered.

Brandee is between a rock and a hard place. She is being blackmailed over her beloved ranch, and to add insult to injury if she doesn't comply she will have to turn her ranch over to Shane Delgado. Wouldn't that make him happy, since he has been after it for a while now. So what's a girl to do, but come up with an outrageous wager to keep her place. If she can get Shane to fall in love with her she gets to keep her ranch. And if she falls for him he gets it. No big deal she can resist him.
Shane has been fascinated by Brandee for a long time. Now she comes to him with a wager that knocks his boots off. Its a win-win for him. Even if he doesn't get the ranch, he still gets Brandee. What could go wrong? Now he finds himself doing ranch chores and loving Brandee by night. Too late he realizes he has fallen for her and now he has to find a way deal with his feelings. But when he finds out that he has been duped, can he forgive the one woman that has ever held his heart?

A blackmail plot leads to desperate measures! Fun characters lead us on a journey of deception that leads to unexpected feelings and big decisions.
Brandee Lawless has put her all into developing Hope Springs Ranch and finding out there were some previous shady dealings with the land that a blackmailer is threatening to expose, does not make her happy. She has to come up with a plan of how to hang on to her ranch without the info getting out.
Shane Delgado has been intrigued by Brandee for years, and when he’s handed an opportunity to get closer to her, he jumps on it! Will stumbling across her true motivation for spending time with him derail what they have shared while on the ranch together?
