Review of This is Love: Illusion of Love– Nana Malone
Customer rating 3/5.0
January 14, 2017 by Deborah A. Fortner
CONCEPT
Woman gets dumped days before her sister’s wedding and enters into a fake relationship with her neighbor.
STORY
Valentine Anderson's parents clearly gave her the wrong first name. Her last two relationships ended on Valentine's
Day, and her current one implodes right before her sister's wedding. Then the dashing and adventurous photographer
next door suggests a fake relationship to keep her family and his boss's over attentive wife at bay. It's just an act,
until Val starts acting on her impulses…and make-believe becomes undeniably too real!
CHARACTERS
Valentine Anderson has trouble with relationships and she wonders why they are not lasting and will always end
around the Valentine holiday. She is an independent blogger and believes in carving her own way without the aid of
her parents. When her last beau tries to break things off before her sister’s wedding, Valentine is desperate to find a
replacement. In steps her incorrigible neighbor, Bennett, a photographer who suggests they enter into a fake
relationship that benefits both of them. For Bennett, he needs a fake fiancé to dissuade his boss’ wife and Bennett
feels the fake relationship will help out Valentine for her sister’s wedding. Two opposites that didn’t think the
attraction would be strong.
DIALOGUE
The dialogue of the story was ok.
STRUCTURE
The structure of the story was sound.
OVERALL
Illusion of Love is a novella within the “This is Love” book and it was an okay read. Valentine may have had an
independence about her however she was guided by her parents’ view that she needed someone on her arm and she
should have real job to be successful in business and love. She was attracted to her neighbor Bennett but was leery
to pursuing a relationship with him because of her prior track record with men. Bennett never expected the fiery
beauty across the hall would pull his heartstrings but he wanted to see where this journey would lead. Overall, it
was an okay read.
