I love a good short story and these did not disappoint.. Roorbach is very talented. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thinking about what makes people tick.

Got to love some Roorbach short stories. Actually, I don't usually like short stories, but I read one of Roorbach's novels and have gone to one of his talks on writing which convinced me to try this short story collection. His characters are great. Doesn't hurt that they are often in or from New England.

I am not a fan of short stories, and didn't realize this was a book of short stories. However, the stories are all well-written, and the character development and writing was very good. I just wanted to have each of the stories go into more detail.

This is a collection for those who like hopeful short stories with heart. Each one is carefully crafted and beautifully written- and they are just perfect in and of themselves. I read these as intermezzos between books and more than once I was struck by how the short story was better than the novel I'd just finished. So many recent collection have focused on despair and rotten circumstance and that's not the case here. I had not read Roorbach before but I'm going to look for his work in the future. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. You will enjoy meeting these people.

These are clever and compelling stories from a writer with an original voice and a pleasingly dark vision.
