Now this is a thriller I enjoyed reading.

From the perspectives of a paramedic, nurse, and a cop, the details captured in a series of murders creates a profound difference between the regular thriller novels. Given are the specifics of each murder, the knowledge expressed by the characters, and suspense that keeps you reading.

The ending wasn't generic either. Without spoiling anything, the twists at the end caught me be surprised as it seemed like it would come to an all to regular ending. Very glad it didn't come to that.

If you come from a medic background, you're definitely going to enjoy this. I recommend.

Unfortunately I didn't get chance to read this book as there was an issue with the system that wouldn't allow me to download this. However, I've heard great things and will be buying the book soon!

Whilst I am not usually fond of short stories, I did enjoy 'The Things that Matter Most'. I am not going to say what the story is about for fear of spoiling for others, but I will say that it is a murder mystery and quite a page turner. Recommended.

Received an electronic copy in exchange for an honest review.

My review can be seen on Goodreads and Amazon.

Well I got through the book and it was okay but I found it unrealistic, I didn't like the main character Ethan either and found him annoying!....he kinda just jumps in on a police investigation and that just can't happen in real life lol, plus he did a better job than his best mate and he was the policeman and so I thought it was a bit nuts, .the plot was okay but slow in places and the ending fits the book, just a bit too slow for me...sorry!

This was just okay for me I knew right away who the killer was within the first 15 pages I did enjoy the banter between Maddy and Ethan.
Really fast read (Novella) if you have 2 hours.

My thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is an introduction to a series about a paramedic, Ethan,. In this novella, he and his new girlfriend, Maddy, help the police with 2 serial killers that are stalking their city. It did seem a little bit strange that the police would allow 2 civilians to help with their cases, but it made for an interesting storyline. The characters were also very interesting, and well-developed. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Ethan Tennant and Tom Lister are paramedics. Galen Hoese, Ethan's best friend, is a cop. Ethan's new girlfriend, Maddy, is a nurse at the local hospital.

Very young girls are being murdered. Ethan and Tom have been called to several scenes of the crimes. No one seems to know what links all these girls.

On the other side of town, adult men and women are being strangled with a leather belt. Nothing seems to tie these victims together. Random crime ... random victims?

Why does the killer always seem to know where the cops are going to be?

When Ethan and Maddy are invited by their cop friend to assist in determining who the killer is, they do see things that the cops haven't seen. And now that they are getting closer, they find that the killer may be closer than they think.

This is a well-written crime thriller. I loved the paramedic stories, the details in treating various accidents, injuries, deaths. After doing just a little research, it's not hard to see where all these credible details come from ... the author is/was a paramedic for many years.

The characters are cleverly drawn and there are surprises around every corner. The first major twist of the story comes about half way through the book ... a second huge twist soon follows.

The one thing that always makes me raise my eyebrows is when the cops allow civilians to help hunt down a killer. Is just isn't done. But this did not interfere with my enjoyment. It is fiction, after all.

I would recommend this to anyone who have an interest in crime drama or paramedics.

Many thanks to the author / Sands Press / Netgalley for the digital copy of this novel. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

While this book had an interesting premise (paramedic and his girlfriend try to catch an elusive killer), the writing was so awkward that it made it difficult to read. This book read like a first draft, not like a polished manuscript. so while the author certainly knows how to plot a suspenseful novel, the writing really needs some work.

This book was interesting, but firmly set in Canada. The speech patterns, stores, geography, all of it made it hard for me to lose myself in the story. And it wasn't about being set in Canada, so I imagine a book set in Nebraska would be just as weird for someone else.
