I just could not get into this novel. I read the first one years ago, and being second in this series and absolutely necessary to have read them in sequence, I had a hard time knowing what was happening. Claire's daughter being kidnapped and held for an exchange for Claire and Nick to wed was the premise for this. But not sure why. Thank you NetGalley for copy in exchange for an honest review

I just...I can't. The whole wedding story line is so icky and over the top unbelievable as is the villain. I don't really care about any of the characters. I picked this up because the previous book ended in a cliff hanger with a child in danger. Well, I've read far enough to see that she's okay so I'm done. I'm going to DNF this.

Karen Harper continues her South Shores adventures of forensic psychologist Claire Britten whose daughter had been kidnapped in the last book by a rogue billionaire. Now she and Nick, her partner, has to solve a murder and rescue her daughter. Lots of action in the Caribbean. A good read. Get the next chapter in the adventure Falling Darkness.

Accidentally read the books in this series out of order. Read book one, Chasing Shadows, and then book three, Falling Darkness. After reading the third book and figuring out what happened in the second it will not be read.

South Florida is also the setting for her South Shores Series, which started with Chasing Shadows and continues with DROWNING TIDES, out this month, and will continued with Falling Darkness in April. She’s contributed a novel to a two-story collection with Heather Graham, entitled Still Waters.
She’s contracted for six in the series and she’s planning nine books. Each book has a cliffhanger ending that is not resolved until the next book. Harper tried to allay reader suffering by including the opening of the next book, which resolves the cliffhanger and establishes the new mystery. A daring experiment that isn't quite successful.

Drowning Tides picks up right after the cliffhanger ending of the first book in the series. I liked this one better than the first, and am really intrigued to find out what will happen next to these characters!

The story continues to follow forensic psychologist Claire Britten and lawyer Nick Markwood. In this installment, Claire's daughter is taken, presumably by the man who staged the suicide of Nick's father. What follows is an action packed, fast paced story that again leaves us with a giant cliffhanger of an ending.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this series leads, and while I am usually sad to see the ending of a series, I'll be glad to get to the end of this one since it has been one big storyline full of cliffhangers. I'll be happy to get some resolution! Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

If you read the first book in this series Chasing Shadows [South Shores], you are aware that the story ended in a cliffhanger, and this book picks up exactly where the other left off.
Lexi has been kidnapped by the man whom Nick believes killed his late father, and now he is going after the new people in his life, and he and Claire are headed to the Cayman Islands. You will never see what is about to happen and then continue throughout the book, you are about to be blindsided more than once.
A book that is full of action and unfortunately murders, but whom is responsible, and you are really going to be surprised as the events unfold and then again something just as unusual will happen. Don’t get to comfortable and think you know the answers here, you don’t, at least I didn’t, and this happens right up to the last page, and now you are going to need to read book three, I need to find the answers.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher MIRA and was not required to give a positive review.

Ms. Harper, what happened? I attempted this book 7 different times and could not get past the first three chapters.
