Mariana is thrust into a world and life she didn’t want in order to protect her father and her family. Her priority is to her family but I got the feeling she wanted to free her father of herself. It’s like she was this person who wasn’t enough and she’s trying to protect him but also be enough for him at the same time.
I really enjoyed the twists and turns in this book. I loved to hate Dornan and John was different. I got the sense that this trilogy was not going to be very straightforward and boy was I right. This book takes many turns; some you may predict but others that you cannot predict at all. Throughout this book though I loved the character growth and the way they seem to mature/regress throughout.
This is not an easy book to read but worth it in my opinion.

Mariana was born into a Columbian drug family and soon enough her father's dealings and mistakes would cost him and his family dearly ... Mariana paid with her freedom.
Emilio , kingpin of the drugworld, is a very dark , cruel and depraved man with no conscious and a black heart and soul but even he had to have respect for her and her decision. ....hell her fate is sealed for sure and I feared for her .
Dornan , Emilio s son and VP of the "Gypsy Brothers" sees something in her and he becomes obsessed with her if you like . He becomes her rescuer as well as her warden , she swopped one prison for another , out of the pit into the frying , at least she's alive and protected by 1 monster.
Dornan and Mariana have a very unhealthy relationship but what they have works for them on a sick level . There were times I saw another side to Dornan , a gentle side , it felt like the good and bad were trying g to battle it out .

Woah! It's been a little while since I read a dark story and I devoured this one. You have a Colombian drug cartel and American Motorcycle Club. This means dark, dangerous, outlaws whose actions will have you cringing at times but you can't stop reading!!
19 year old Mariana is the daughter of a drug cartel employee, when he crosses the Kingpin, Emilio Ross, Mariana's life changes instantly. You go on the journey with Mariana as she is taken from her family, becomes property of the Il Sangue Cartel and then arrives in the US to belong to the Gypsy Brothers MC. Mariana is not treated well and this is expected as this is the debt that must be paid for her father's betrayal. No one is coming to save her from these terrible men, but when Dornan Ross, Gypsy Brother VP takes in interest in her, her life is spared. These two begin an interesting relationship that has you hating Dornan one minute and lusting for him the next. It's complicated!!! I can't wait to begin the next book to see what happens between these two.
As this is a darker read, you must be prepared to read about physical and sexual abuse.

If dark subjects/themes are not your thing, this book would not be for you. This is Mariana's story, you meet her in the Gypsy Brother's series. This is how it all began, how Dornan became the way he is, his relationship with John Portland etc.
This book has some very dark and disturbing themes. Usually they don't have much of an effect on me, but these disturbed me some. The beginning of the book really shows how Mariana is the way she is, and why Dornan is the way he is. It doesn't change how I feel about him, not a big fan of his, but it does explain things which put them into a perspective.
This is probably one of the hardest reviews I've ever written, my brain is in a fog and I just don't know what to say after reading this book. The book moves at a fast pace, and I started in the evening and finished the next day. I enjoyed it, but it is very messed up. Off to start Kingpin! If you like Cartel books and you like MC books, you will love this book!
