What a first chapter! I had loads of questions swirling around my mind that I just had to find the answers to. One question in particular hung around and I couldn’t stop coming up with theories as to what happened!

Aside from the big mystery, there was a seriously sexually charged atmosphere between Teal And Dare. The sparks practically jumped off the page at me and although I could guess where it was heading, I still enjoyed the journey.

Some parts of the storyline seemed to jump around a bit and I found myself rereading sections to try to make sense of it.

There were some pretty sinister moments that really got my heart pounding and once again had me asking questions. This is definitely a book that keeps you guessing. As I neared the end and the truth was slowly revealed I couldn’t stop flipping the pages.

This was an exciting read filled with tension of all kinds.

Great romance and actually very suspenseful. I barely read the blurb and am so glad I gave this book a chance! Going in blind was wonderful!

This topic is no longer of interest to me and I will not be finishing this book.

Teal suffers from blackouts and when she returns home she finds herself asking Dare for help. The intense storyline was unique and enthralling and kept me up and incorrectly guessing how the events would play out. Great book Myers.

My rating: 4 stars!

I Really enjoyed reading this book!

It was well written, mysterious and full of suspense. I kept wondering what really happend that day on the swamp, when Teal was 8 years old...

Someone hurt Teal... someone was trying to catch her and she was terrified!

Since that day, Teal suffers from Blackouts...

Everyone believes Dare hurt her! ... But, that's the only thing she does remember from that day... that he didn't!

... But, can her memories from that day, really, be trusted?!

10 years later, Teal believes her blackouts are long gone, that she's cured...

...only to have a Blackout episode as she comes back home (after being away in France for 2 years) and passes through the swamp where it all started.

And, she ends up meeting Dare again... and he's way different from the 11 year old boy she last saw... but, somehow, deep in, he's still the same.

Dare keeps saving and protecting Teal!

And it's Good that he does, because Teal might just be in Real Danger again!

What really happend 10 years ago, in the swamp? Who hurt Teal? And, as someone starts stalking her, will she be okay?! Will she ever remember what happend on that awful day?

*****************
So, why 4 stars?!

Because... I really liked the relationship between Teal and Dare and I Loved the Mystery and trying to guess what happend and who's really at fault here :)

Brilliant! This book was right up my alley. I haven’t read a book in ages that had me glued to the pages. I love a good romantic suspense/thriller and Blackout fit the bill beautifully. The story kept me thinking I might know what happened…but then something would shift and throw me off, ah the the mystery was definitely there and really well done.

The romantic connection between Dare and Teal was undeniable. I loved the feeling of push and pull between them, yet they couldn’t do anything about it. They truly were stuck and not able to act on anything, even with all the feelings bubbling below the surface. My friends, this was a fantastic and intense slow burn.

I knew Dare was one of the good guys and while he was tough, he was a good soul. But there were a lot of other characters in this book; there were good guys, there were tough guys, and there were bad guys. I had a vibe who I thought was THE bad guy(s), but didn’t know how to piece it together. I could eliminate person by person as I read, but I couldn’t figure out what happened…yet it was right at my fingertips. This is why I loved this story and was utterly addicted, I love a good mystery and this one was fantastic. As close as I got to guessing everything I just couldn’t and it was done so well.

What left me scratching my head? I didn’t like how everybody wanted to sexually assault Teal. It happened so often when she was younger, and then it was happening again in the present now that she’s older. It didn’t strike me as realistic. Yes, I know there are creeps out there, but this felt like that almost every single man around every single corner was doing this to her. Also, if these guys (like the Collins twins) were for real I would be scared out of my mind. If that happened to me I would be so worried that they would be coming to my house at night, yet there was no sense of stalking that should have gone along with it…and that’s why this is unrealistic. However, I know this is a story so I kept going.

The ending was perfect. The right amount of me freaking out, followed by closure that was so satisfying in so many ways. I can’t say more, but there was a happy ending with lots of answers.

Rec this? If you love an edgy romantic suspense, then YES YES YES. I also do need to warn that this is not for the faint of heart, so if you feel like adult topics or sensitive issues would bother you, this is not for you. However, if all those things are ok, this is a great add for your TBR. Ms. Myers has a gift for weaving a complex and compelling tell, all while fitting in a sexy romance. I can’t wait to start book 2!

DNF…at 15%...I don't get how all those people could not only read this but like it. I just couldn't do it…The writing's all over the place and childish…like childishly slutty. I'm not having the best of luck with Arc's lately. No rating.

I treally tried. I just couldn't get past the writing style. I continually had to re-read sections to look for quote marks to determine did she just say that, or did she just think that. And it made a difference as this is one of those books where if they had just said something, this could have wrapped up. It just frustrated the heck out of me. If I were having blackouts for years, you bet your ass I'd be asking the one person who might have the answers.

Blackout by Chris Myers (4 out of 5 stars!)

This book utterly surprised me! I was initially intrigued to see how the author would play out the episodes of blackouts throughout the story, and I’m always drawn to a good good guy/bad guy combo, so I decided to give it a go. I was shocked to be immediately grabbed by the first chapter, and I literally could not put this book down! I read late into the night, during my workouts, and in any few minutes I could squeeze out of my busy day.
Blackout begins with a quick look into the trauma that starts Teal's blackouts.
At the age of eight, she endured a horrific event in the swamps near her home in North Carolina, that only she and a few other people even survived. After having seen Teal covered in blood and her clothes torn, her father then accused and convicted Dare, Teal’s older friend of molesting her. Teal might not remember what happened in the swamp that day, but she knew that Dare would never hurt her. He tried to help her, but Dare was only eleven at the time. Shortly after the scarring event, Teal’s father swooped her up and moved to Paris. He did this in a desperate attempt to keep her safe and chase after his wife. Teal’s beautiful mother disappeared without a trace a few days prior to the traumatic event. While in Paris, Teal underwent a litany of therapy to try to uncover the events that caused her blackouts.
The story then picked up ten years later, when Teal returned to North Carolina to help care for her grandmother. She had grown into a stunning young lady and was the spitting image of her Mother. She thought she was beyond the blackouts, until as she drove by the swamp, and once again the blackness surrounded her. Amazingly enough, and this part was a little hokey for me...Dare just happened to be driving by and rescued her. Their connection was immediate. He had changed, he was not the sweet boy she remembered. He had been hardened by the past ten years. But the allure of him was still present, and Teal felt it the second his hand touched her.
In the conscious effort to not give too much of this story away, I will stop the storyline discussion here. I found the story to be incredibly compelling. There were lots of twist and turns throughout, and I wasn't sure who was involved in the swamp episode until the very end. I swear I changed my mind about who was involved about 5 times! My favorite minor character was Miles, Teal’s therapist. I wish his character was developed more and more present in the storyline. But, all in all this book was about Teal and Dare, their relationship, and “the event.” Teal’s blackouts, in my opinion, got to be a little overdone. But just as I was thinking not again, she was able to fight through it! The characters all showed growth and I loved the sizzle of Teal/Dare’s relationship! I hope that there will be more to come from this couple! I will be anxiously awaiting it, if it happens!
I was offered the opportunity to read this book by NetGalley, the publisher, and of course the author in exchange for a honest review.
