This mystery takes place in Southern California in the 1980's. Solid mystery, but slow pacing in places. Duel timeline as the protagonist must deal with his past in order to solve the current murder. Trigger warnings for child abuse.

First i have read by this author and I was at times confused but also impressed with the book. Took me awhile to realize there were two plot lines, each with Ben as a main participant. A compelling story, how being abused as a child can lead to two different paths in life. Well written, beautiful description of the landscape, and characters you can care about. Wondering if this is the start of a new suspense series. If so it will be welcomed.
