This is my second Kerry Fisher read and I loved it just as much as I loved After the Lie.

I found this to be a well written women’s fiction read. A family drama full of secrets and lies. I loved how the author threw some twists in. I read this in a day. I couldn’t put it down. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

I enjoy books like this. Family dramas with lots of little twists that you don't see coming. The story evolves around two Italian brothers and their wives, oh and not forgetting the overbearing mother! I feel for the wives in this book. But they forge a friendship together. The story does go really fast, it's well written and great for a comfort read.

Story moved quickly and was filled with suspense.
Great read on the beach!
A moving story of family dynamics.
There's a lot of emotional drama going on, almost too much, but such is their lives and the author weaves the drama together nicely. I enjoyed the book .....

Thank you Netgalley the Author and Publisher for a chance to read this book

This is a really good story of how lies and secrets affect a family. We meet Lara and Maggie, two sisters-in-law that have married Italian brothers and along with them comes their overbearing mother. A terrible secret is revealed that put their lives in a tailspin. Lara and Maggie form a friendship that allows them to share their thoughts and fears. I really enjoyed this book and felt for the wives in the story.

DNF.

I wanted to like this book but just didn't. I stopped caring about the characters and the mystery. Sorry!

I did not leave a review on any platform.

Written from the views of Maggie and Lara, who are married to Italian brothers Nico and Massimo.
I felt I understood Maggie more than Lara, maybe because our backgrounds are similar.. where she grew up, her Mum etc. I found myself hoping she'd get her happy ending.
The book was very enjoyable and I struggled to put it down, the only reason I haven't given it the 5th star is because I don't think I'll fully remember it after a few more books and I didn't get a WOW moment, no unexpected twist.
That said, the last line had me in tears! It's a great story that I would recommend to friends. In particular, I loved Beryl! I think everyone should have a little bit of Beryl in them.

The inter-family relationships in this book made it a sweet and entertaining read to me, and I couldn't wait to finish it. Just had to see what happens and how the story unfolded. Entertaining read!

This is a brilliant book and well deserving of five stars! It is a modern family saga. Maggie, single mum to Sam, has just married Nico. He was widowed and has a teenage daughter Francesca. Nico has a brother Massimo who is married to Lara and they have a son Sandro. The families have Italian roots and live next to each other and beside their mother the matriarch of the family, widow Anna. As a newcomer Maggie finds it difficult to fit in and she tries to make everyone like her. One day an unlikely friendship starts between her and Lara, causing secrets to be revealed, devastating the whole family!

I adored this book! Intriguing plot and developed characters. Realistic with such strong women as the center of the story. I had a hard time pulling myself away and I couldn't wait to see what was coming next!

The Silent Wife was a fab book I struggled to put it down.
We meet Nico who is part of an Italian family with his mother Anna the head of the household, Nico whose first wife Caitlin died is now married to Maggie, Lara who is married to Nico's brother Massimo and Francesca Nico's daughter. Maggie struggles to fit in around the family members, Anna thinks she is after Nico for his money and Francesca hates her stepmother taking her own mothers place. The story is told from both Lara and Maggie's viewpoints flitting between the two women and the Secrets that have been hidden in the family may all start tumbling out. A great book that I enjoyed reading.

Sigh, and again. I'm terrible. Same thing I'm running out of time/dates!

A wonderful twisty family drama with a hint of the authors sense of humour.

This is my second Kerry Fischer novel and it was just as good as After the Lie, if not better. This book was previously titled The Secrets of Second Wives, but I am glad they changed it because the current title definitely makes more sense than the first. I feel like Fischer kind of leads the reader into a false sense of security with how she starts the book out from Maggie’s POV, the newly married second wife to Nico. Sure she has issues with her new mother in law and her new status as a stepmother, but when we switch over to Lara’s POV, you realize how much better off Maggie is than Lara, and the story flips to a darker tale. I was captured until the end – definitely a great page turner!

I read mainly thrillers, but I do like my change-of-pace contemporary fiction novels. I read Kerry Fisher’s After the Lie about a year ago and enjoyed it very much. Therefore, when The Silent Wife became available, it was a no-brainer for me to grab it.

The Silent Wife is a wonderful read. It is a terrific mix of emotion laced with humor. The main thrust of the story is the rocky road traveled by those thrust into a blended family situation. The field turns out to be even more treacherous when the main family has its own serious issues. The story is narrated by the second wives (Maggie and Lara) of the Farinelli brothers (Nico and Massimo). Secrets, insecurities, resentments, bullying, and unreasonable expectations all play roles in the lives of the characters. The differences in the values and the personalities of the major players propel the tale along and eventually lead to bonding in some cases and irrevocable differences in others. I particularly loved Maggie and Beryl and also the growth achieved by Lara.

This was a fast and very satisfying read. I thought the epilogue, which I always consider a bonus in all the books I read, was particularly strong. Kerry Fisher is a relatively new member of the Bookouture community and I see why she was picked to join this up and coming publishing house. Her books carry a punch, making them more contemporary fiction rather than chick lit. It is also worth repeating that her undercurrent of humor beautifully complements the seriousness of her stories. As an added bonus, I learned a whole truckload of new British words—something I find fascinating. These words can always be figured out by the context, so don’t let this scare off anyone this side of the pond from reading the book.

I recommend The Silent wife to all readers of contemporary fiction and others who are looking for a break from their favorite genre. I look forward to picking up Ms. Fisher’s earlier works and can’t wait to see what she does next.

Thank you to Net Galley, Bookouture, and Ms. Kerry Fisher for the privilege of reading a digital copy of this novel. The opinions stated are mine alone and are not biased in any way.

Thanks to Netgalley for the Kindle version of this book.
"The Silent Wife" had a mystery that I didn't expect. It's an easy read but suspenseful, too.
Another good book by Kerry Fisher.

A very well written and thought-out book. The writing clearly characterises the family members although maybe most of it was a little cliché (stereotypical Italian mother, for example). This took me a while to get into and even longer to finish but I'm glad I did. However, it's probably not a book I'd rush to recommend nor would I want to re-read it again given a choice - that sounds bad but what I mean is that it didn't have any page-turning elements that I'd look for in a book where I may have missed parts because I had read it so quickly. It was just a 'nice' book; one I'd read on holiday or down the beach.
Basically the book goes into the workings of an Italian family and the heartbreak of families who have had to fill the shoes of a deceased parent and the blending of families from different backgrounds.
I'd give a rating of 4 out of 10 - the writing was brilliant but the storyline just wasn't enough for me. I'd look at her other books for sure though.

This was a great story. Well told. I could see everyone's point of view. I think it's been mismarketed as "a gripping emotional page turner". It was very good but it wasn't gripping and it wasn't a page turner. And not every book has to be!

This was a fun quick read about an Italian family focusing mainly on the two women who married into the family. The one woman is trying to compete with a ghost by the mother in law and her step daughter who can't accept her because they can't cope with the death of her husband's wife who they think was perfect. The other woman seems to be living an idealistic life but things aren't always how they look and they're both hiding a secret about the deceased woman who was not so perfect. This was a good beach read but it's not as suspense filled as books I usually read if you're looking for a clean short read I recommend this.

The Silent Wife was a really exciting and enjoyable read. This book really has some characters that make the book strong - those that are in the light, and those that live in the dark and those that like to fool you and fluctuate between the two.

A new wife is trying to be accepted into a large close-knit family with a dominating, cold dominating elderly Mother at the helm, her sons are her whole world. Some wives are not good enough, no matter how hard they try. Tensions and dysfunctional interactions are a-plenty in this novel. The plot is really intriguing and all is not what it seems in this family. Secrets are revealed and thing uncovered that will give you a reading buzz!

This is a true character driven book, you will develop early on your own feelings and thoughts around many of them no doubt. Some feelings may change as you read on, almost guaranteed really. If you like complex relationships and dysfunctional families this is a book for you. It's not easy to read in places - cruelty, abuse, violence behind closed doors must be hidden at all costs. But there is a hefty price to pay.

This is a great read, 5 stars from me. Just one of those pick up, get stuck right in and flick the pages until you are happily done novels. Taut, terrific and highly enjoyable.

Nico and Massimo are two brother who are both on their second marriages to Maggie and Lara. The brothers live next door to each other and their mother lives just across the road - not ideal for the new wives!

Nico and Maggie are newly married and Maggie is blissfully happy with the man of her dreams - but he has a 13 year old daughter who has a dead mother and that relationship is a bit more difficult.

On the surface everything is perfect in their lives but gradually secrets are discovered and there are many twists and turns to this book - a great read that I couldn't put down
