Pleasant cozy mystery with a few exciting parts. Those page turning parts help compensate for the filler. The boring parts of Marley's life were engaging enough not to annoy. Her romance is progressing. The critters add a bit of sparkle for us pet lovers. I look forward to reading the next one in this series.

For Whom the Bread Rolls by Sarah Fox is the second book in the Pancake House mystery series. It was great to be back in Wildwood Cove visiting with Marley again. It's a lovely setting for a cozy and I would love to visit.

The plot was smoothly paced and included not only a murder but a case of illegal dumping near the river. As with most cozy mystery protagonists, Marley seems to be in the right place at the right time for investigating. I felt like Marley was more intrusive this time in her investigation of the murder than in the first book. Don't get me wrong, I like Marley and she is surrounded by some great friends that are supportive of her. I liked the realistic touch that Ms. Fox introduced as Marley struggled with her fear of losing someone you love. All and all it was an easy read that I enjoyed.

For Whom the Bread Rolls A Pancake House Mystery by Sarah Fox

In this second book of a Pancake House Mystery Marley McKinney returns to Wildwood Cove to run her deceased Uncle's Pancake House he left her along with his home. Almost everyone is happy Marley returned, except for maybe Ida Winkler.
It doesn't take long for Marley to find herself involved in another mystery, this ones a doozy! Lot's of characters from the first book are here like Matt, Marley's love interest. Ivan the Flipside's chef and his assistant Tommy. Sheriff Georgeson. Leigh Hunter and Sienna Miller, they work at Flipside. Patricia Sienna's mom and lisa, Marley's best friend also make an appearance. It was nice to revisit with these friendly characters.
Marley finds herself in some deep trouble trying to solve a murder mystery. I enjoyed the read while trying to deduce the clues of this murder mystery.

I give For Whom the Bread Rolls 3 stars for its murder mystery.
I would recommend this book to Cozy Mystery Fans.

This book "rises" to the occasion! I throughly enjoyed every yummy page of this cozy mystery. It's the second in the series, and a reasonably good read. Marley is lots of fun, and I appreciate the animals as well. It's a who-done-it that will make you hungry for more.

My copy came from Net Galley. I choose to leave this review.

I received a digital copy of this book in return for an honest review. I must say all the food listed kept me hungry, along with well-developed characters and a pretty decent mystery. I have no trouble recommending this author to others and look forward to future stories.

I read. I read a lot. I read a lot of cozy mysteries. Because of that, I will often begin a book by an author I have read before and it takes me a chapter or two to put everything in perspective.

I have read several books with a pancake house as a venue. But an amazing thing happened as I began For Whom the Bread Rolls. I almost instantly remembered the first book. Images from the first book came back into my mind. I remembered The Flip Side, who was working there and why. I could envision the home near the water. I recognized other characters. But the book is written in the first person and the one thing I could not remember is the protagonist's name! It doesn't appear until chapter 2 when she identifies herself while answering the telephone.

I enjoyed the story line and this became another book that I hated to leave to go on with my daily life. I read every time I could grab a few minutes and finished it in just a couple days. My only complaint with the story has to do with my own personal values. It won't keep me from reading more in this series, but it does lower my opinion of Marley. I am very sorryI was so very disappointed when, SPOILER ALERT (stop reading here if you don't want to know):

Marley asked Brett to spend the night. I understand that they are in love, but I had hoped that this step wouldn't happen until after a wedding. I know; I am an old prude. But really, did Sarah Fox have to take Marley down that road?

For Whom The Bread Rolls
A Pancake House Mystery, Book #2
Sarah Fox
5 Stars

Synopsis:

From the author of The Crêpes of Wrath comes another decadent cozy mystery. This time, pancake house owner Marley McKinney is tangling with a salty troublemaker . . . and a ravenous killer.

Bonus content: includes original recipes inspired by the Flip Side Pancake House menu!

Tourist season’s in full swing in the small seaside town of Wildwood Cove, and Marley McKinney couldn’t be happier. Since taking over the Flip Side restaurant, she’s made a few close friends, adopted a cat named Flapjack, and started dating her childhood crush. The only cloud on the horizon is local nuisance Ida Winkler, who blames Marley for landing her nephew in prison. Trying to get a rise out of Marley, Ida’s been making crank calls and even vandalizing the pancake house.

The police can’t do much about the pranks, so Marley sets out to bury the hatchet once and for all. But someone’s beat her to it—in the most shocking way possible. After stumbling across Ida’s dead body, Marley’s suddenly the number-one suspect in her murder. Clearing her good name is going to be a tall order, but Marley’s not about to let Ida keep ruining her life—especially from beyond the grave. (Goodreads)

Review:

The characters are well rounded, well developed and three dimensional. Marley has a big heart and is very willing to help out her friends, whenever they need it. That is why she cannot understand why she would be a person of interest in a murder case. It’s true that she had problems with the deceased but she would never kill her. She has to clear her name before she is sent to prison. With the help of her friends and lots of snooping, she may just solve the crime. I like that her relationship with Brett, her boyfriend, is moving in the right direction. I also enjoyed getting to spend more time with Marley’s friends and employees.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is talented in her descriptive writing and much of the time I felt like I was right there watching all the action taking place and listening to all the conversations taking place around me. I loved the small town setting and the way that everyone knows everybody else’s business.

There are two mysteries to solve in this book. One is who killed Ida and why. The other is who is dumping illegally by the river. There are enough suspects to consider and enough clues to keep even the best armchair detective guessing. I did not figure them out until it was revealed at the end.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I am already looking forward to read book number three, but I guess I have to wait for the author to write it first.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Alibi for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Another entertaining story with great characters, a murder mystery, and continued development of a tentative romance. Once again the tale is enhanced with many little details and touches that satisfy the reader and creates great images. This is not a deep book that will change the world. It is just great entertainment.

At the end of the first book, Marley decides to stay in Wildwood Cove and run the pancake house her uncle left her. Life is great with one drawback: Ida Walker has made harassing Marley a full time job. Vandalism, crank phone calls, and even stealing things off her porch! So no surprise to any cozy reader that Marley goes to confront Ida and instead finds her dead body! And of course Marley is considered a "person of interest." Though, honestly, I do not for one minute think she was ever seriously considered. I did have two issues with the book. There was a confrontation with Brett, her boyfriend, that kept making Marley uncomfortable but I don't remember reading it and even went back to check and couldn't find it. Was something edited out? And the other item, which is extremely more vexing: if she owns a breakfast place, why does Marley eat breakfast at home? Admittedly one can not eat pancakes every morning, but don't you think if there was something she liked to eat that it would be good to add that to the menu? Thankfully, enough of the action took place away from the restaurant and I managed to read the whole book without having to go get pancakes because I can't eat pancakes every day either!

First I love just about any series that offers recipes in it books. Second what a great series. I know this is only book 2 but I find it very entertaining.

Marley McKinney couldn’t be happier since taking over the Flip Side restaurant. Its the height of tourist season, she has made some close friends, a fun cat named Flapjack and a new boyfriend who was her crush back in school. Then there is Ida Winkler, pain in the tush extraordinaire. She blames Marley for her nephew being in prison so Ida makes crank phone calls and vandalizes the shop. Unfortunately when Marley goes to try and make amends with Ida it is too late. Marley is suspect #1.

I loved For Whom the Bread Rolls from the moment I started reading it. I immediately felt surrounded by the warmth of the community that welcomed Marley. Well written mystery. Good characters and a good story line

What do you do about someone who has it in for you, but you can't get concrete proof? Spend money on security cameras?
Imagine the "inconvenience" when you are the one to discover her dead (murdered) body!
With a list a town long of people who had grievances with the victim, where does one begin looking?

Marley McKinney has given up her career as a paralegal in the city to run The Flip Side, a pancake house in Wildwood Cove, a beach resort on the Northwestern Pacific Coast. Sadly, she inherited the restaurant from her Uncle Jimmy who was murdered in the first book in the series, The Crepes of Wrath. Marley spent her summers growing up in Wildwood Cove and has picked up old friendships, as well as making new ones. She is also in a serious relationship with her teenage crush, Brett Collins. One person decidedly does not like Marley or anyone else in town; Ida Winkler, the town troublemaker. After several incidents of vandalism at the restaurant, prank calls and a theft, Marley goes to face down Ida in her lair, only to find her dead in a shed on the property. As the person who found the body who was involved in a dispute with her, Marley is immediately a "person of interest". Marley is justifiably worried about the effect this might have on her business and life.

There is a lot going on under the placid surface of Wildwood Cove: illicit affairs, blackmail, and a meth lab operation. Marley uncovers it all, and in the process becomes the target of a dangerous and conscienceless killer. Ida knew too much and now Marley does too. For Whom the Bread Rolls has a lot of small-town charm, plenty of quirky characters and a stubbornly endearing heroine in Marley. I would recommend the series to fans of "foodie" mysteries with a dash of romance.

Thanks to Random House Alibi and NetGalley for an advance digital copy in return for an honest review.

I really like this series. The characters are fun. The stories and plots are good. There are a lot of characters and there's a lot going on, but it isn't overwhelming. In this one, Marley's nemesis is found murdered and she must figure out who it is before rumor puts her out of business. And here's the secret about this one.... I started reading it because the book I had on text to speech was making me cry. In my car. On the way to work. And I knew this would be a fun read that wouldn't make me cry. So there you have it. I ended up reading this so I wouldn't walk into work with mascara running down my face (kidding. waterproof. duh.). And I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I just love a good cozy. This was a quick, fun read. It is filled with humor, romance, and if course a murder. Marley is the owner of a pancake house. She ends up finding Ida dead and now she is a suspect. I love Marley. She is smart, funny and such a relatable character. A great Saturday read for me.

Good continuation of the series

I enjoyed this book. It was all the typical elements of cozy mysteries: some romance, some humor, some death. Author Sarah Fox puts these together well so the book is hard to put down. The characters are well developed and Fox paints vivid settings. The story is well paced and the action is well done. I look forward to reading more books in this series.

This is the second book in the Pancake House Mystery series and I felt like I was missing part of the story from the beginning. The first half of the book is very slow paced and seems like the mystery is taking a back seat to Marlely’s love life. The pace does pick up after the second half and concentrates on the mystery. I think this could be a great cozy mystery if the author could find a better balance of the mystery and Marley’s life.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy provided to me by the publisher through Netgalley.

For Whom the Bread Rolls is the second book in the Pancake House Mystery series. This new tale finds Marley McKinney settling into her new life in Wildwood Cove. She loves her ocean front home and pancake restaurant, The Flip Side, that she inherited from her deceased cousin. She also loves her boyfriend, Brett. In fact, life would be pretty perfect....except for a vengeful, nasty woman, Ida Winkler. Ida does little annoying things like scrawling graffiti on the restaurant's front windows and prank calling the restaurant continually. Finally, Marley has had enough. She goes to Ida's house to confront her....and finds her dead. Marley doesn't want the locals to think she killed the woman, so she decides to do a little sleuthing to find the killer. As with most small towns, it turns out there are a lot of people in Wildwood Cove with secrets. But which one is a murderer?

I enjoyed this book. Marley is a strong, independent and intelligent woman. Her restaurant seems like a cozy, enjoyable place -- wish it was real! I would definitely eat there! The supporting characters are all likable with enough quirkiness to make them interesting. The mystery is well-paced with plenty of suspects.

It isn't necessary to read book one before delving into this mystery. I haven't read The Crepes of Wrath yet, but was easily able to get into this story and the characters. I'm definitely going to read the first book! I have it on Kindle just waiting for me. :) For Whom the Bread Rolls, a quick read at just 212 pages, is definitely an enjoyable cozy mystery.

Sarah Fox also writes the Music Lovers Mystery series. For more information on the author and her books, check out her website: http://www.authorsarahfox.com/

Just as good as the first volume, From Whom the Bread Rolls is the sequel of The Crepes of Wrath by Sarah Fox. I want to thank Random House Alibi for reaching out and allowing me to read this great sequel.

Life is good for Marley McKinney as she settles in Wildwood Cove, a small coastal town, managing the pancake restaurant her cousin left her. Everything is running smoothly, including the relationship wither boyfriend Brett. But calm times are not meant to last. Soon Marley has her world turned upside down when her old employee and nemesis comes back to cause problems. Marley is sure that Ida Winkler is responsible for the damage made to her restaurant, but no proof is found of the fact. Things get more complicated when later, Ida is found dead and Marley is considered the prime suspect. Fearing the ruin of her business, Marley jumps in the murder mystery and soon begins to realise that several people from the small town have a motive to get rid of Ida. Can she clear her name and find out who wants to frame her?

The setting of this novel always gets to me. I’ve lived almost all my life near the ocean and something about small towns near water give me a cosy feeling and a sense of nostalgia. The writing style is still great and it was impossible not to grow addicted to the story right from the beginning. The descriptions of the food and the recipes are still just as tempting as in the first novel. They made me hungry and with the will to actually try and make them!

The story line is great. Easy to follow and a few twists made it a bit more difficult to discover the identity of the killer.

The characters are gaining depth and growing compared to the first novel. I got the feeling that Marley has grown and I could feel her acceptance of her new responsibility but at the same time struggling to believe that all that belongs to her. She’s very real and I absolutely love the way she is. Ida was a good character in the sense of that rivalry and need for revenge. I could have pictured her being around for a bit longer to cause trouble, she brought spice to the story. The secondary characters are very nice and even if the restaurant in itself already brings a lot of colour to the novel, the characters make the light shine through.

A great, addictive cosy-mystery that will leave you hungry for more, literally! Can’t wait to see that comes next for Marley and The Flip Side!

The blurb says the book comes with bonus recipes but sadly those were not included in my eGalley. :( I was very disappointed as some of the waffles and pancakes sound amazing.

Although I didn't read the first book, this worked fine as a stand alone. Marley is settling into life in Wildwood Cove. She inherited her cousin's house and restaurant, quit her job to move to Wildwood, and struck up a romance with a guy she had a crush on in high school. Despite her cousin's death, her life is good. Until someone, though she's pretty sure she knows who, begins to vandalize her restaurant. Investigating that leads to her discovering the murdered body of the woman who may have been the vandal and that leads to her being a person of interest. Naturally Marley wants to clear her name and begins to investigate.

Marley was pretty apt for an amateur detective. Oh, she stumbled here and there and had a few moments where I was rolling my eyes, but she acquitted herself well overall. There were a few unlikely coincidences but those are pretty much de rigeur in cozy mysteries. There was a lot of page time devoted to Marley hanging out at the beach, going swimming and other daily activities. We didn't need that much detail or repetition. It also felt as if the romance between Marley and Brett was on the one hand flat, I didn't feel the connection between them, and on the other hand moved fast given the amount of angst that popped up out of nowhere on Marley's side. Where did the angst come from (we are eventually told that) and why? The relationship didn't seem to be progressing to a pint where that angst would have developed

Despite that, I liked Marley and the cast of characters. They're quirky but not overly so and most of them are nicely developed, with the exception of Brett, and his sister Chloe. Ivan was interesting and I look forward to seeing more of him. The mystery was complicated enough to keep me guessing though the ending was a bit deux ex machina.

Overall, I enjoyed the story (the yummy food references didn't hurt!) and hope to read more in the series.
