This was an interesting read. Starts with politics and moves into environmental issues. This made me laugh and cry a lot. Fran is a congressman in the 1990's who has lost his wife and his way. He is trying to find his way again. This book goes through what can happen to a man when he loses his way. I really liked the story and had a hard time putting this down. I received this book from Smith Publicity for a fair and honest opinion that was my own.

A politician’s life is not a happy one!

Fran Stewart is a member of congress. His climb to this position was thanks to his wife, Carter’s very influential family. However, after the accident that killed her, Fran finds himself at loggerheads with his overbearing and dominating mother-in-law; Feeney Craighall. Because of his duties as a congressman, he finds it easier for Becky, his daughter, to live with Feeney. But this is going to have serious implications when he meets and starts dating Jo Ellen Driscoll.

This is a tragic story that emphasises how often people only make it in politics through powerful and influential backers and what can go wrong if the relationship between backer and politician sours. Fran is in this very delicate position and starts questioning whether he really is or should be involved with congress or whether his daughter and their relationship is more important and of course, he must question himself as well, whether having lost the love of his life, his soulmate, it is appropriate to start dating and developing feelings for another person.

I enjoy it when authors’ enable me to question how I personally feel about the situation they have presented and Rich Garon has certainly managed to get me to look at how I would personally feel about Fran and his situation. Would I encourage him or would I advise against it? None more so than at the end. Life certainly has a way of throwing curve balls at us and expecting us to catch them!
