Based on extensive brain science research, this book goes beyond the theoretical descriptions by offering in-depth practical advice for reducing and, in the best-case scenario setting up a stress-proof brain. As described by the book, the process is generally difficult and complex, but with the proper guidance, outstanding results can be achieved. A book recommended to anyone going through a moment in life when stress is overwhelming, but there is a big desire to change and challenge this situation.

A timely aid in our stress-filled world, this book explores the effects of stress as well as our reactions to them. There are exercises at the end of every chapter, such as the practice of mindfulness, which may sound fluffy but I believe to be helpful.
While many concepts are not new, it can be difficult to put them into practice. This book assure us that changes can be made, one step at a time. It is a useful book to remind us to be positive.

I love, love, love this book. It is a great read for anyone who experiences stress. Dr. Greenberg tells you the science behind stress, and then tells you different ways to master your emotional responses to it. I have used some of the methods she mentions, and they have helped quite a bit. I wish this book had been written 10 years ago! I highly recommend to everyone!

A great, easy to use book on how to better cope with stress. As someone who is almost always insanely stressed I found this book very helpful and insightful. A must read for anyone who has stress in their lives.

As the name suggests, this book describes what stress responses we have to certain threats around us. It discusses the ‘amygdala’ which is an almond shaped structure in our brains that has evolved to respond to threats we face.

I particularly enjoyed how detailed Melanie gets especially about how the reader can find more mindful and effective ways to respond to stress.

She gives case studies of her clients’ therapy sessions and how she helped them learn to use their prefrontal cortex in ways that could help them calm down their amygdala.

I like how she emphasises what the reader has learned at the end of each chapter. This ensures that if you missed something, you can always go back to earlier pages in the chapter to re-read it.

There are also exercises at the end of each chapter to help the reader identify stressors and determine ways to reduce stress.

'The Stress-Proof Brain: Master Your Emotional Response to Stress Using Mindfulness and Neuroplasticity' by Melanie Greenberg. I think we all have some level of stress in our lives. I feel that I have a lot of it and feel alone dealing with it. So I have been looking for something to help me deal with this. This book has been a great start to trying to get a hold on my stress level.

This book as I started reading is divided into three parts:
1. 'Understanding your Stress' : brain, body stress responses.
2. 'Calming Your Amygdala' : to be grounded in the present moment.
3. 'Moving Forward with your Prefrontal Cortex' : how to combat worry.

I have just started this book training and feel that it will be a work in progress for a while but this book does give me some ground to move forward with. I am glad to have this on my shelf of books to go to for help. "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."
