A boy is murdered while incarcerated and the reader learns by whom and why in the onset of this novel. A law office in Washington, DC, is hired to investigate this death. Saying much more would lead to spoilers. Most of it was well written and plotted. Some parts moved slower than others, but all in all it was well done. Thanks to Net Galley and Thomas Nelson for an ARC for an honest review.

Beyond Justice was an exciting book that keeps you on the edge of your seat right up to the end! Not only was the book exciting but it has a romance in it that is sweet and heart warming.

Hayden McCarthy is a young attorney in a very prestigious law firm. She is given a case that involves a youth that entered the country illegally but was killed in the detention center he was held in. As Hayden uncovers layer upon layer of the case she finds this youth was tied to a very dangerous drug cartel family. She also finds she is being followed. Each person that is associated with the case has been endangered.

Andrew is Hayden's roommate's cousin. He also happens to be the son of a congressman, but he has a heart for young immigrant children. Not only is he tied to the case Hayden is working on, but he finds himself falling in love with her. As Hayden investigates the facility where her young client was held and killed, she finds herself in a dangerous situation with Andrew. Hayden also realizes pursuing this case to the end may cost her a lot more than she bargained for.

The book keeps an exciting pace and gives you just enough to keep you holding on. I loved it!

Hayden longs to make a difference as a lawyer. When an immigrant woman’s son is murdered while in a U.S. detention facility, Hayden knows this is what she was meant to do. This woman needs a skilled advocate who knows how the U.S. system works. At first Hayden seems a little uptight. She would look at trial notes as a way to celebrate winning a case. However, just when she gets to know her roommate’s cousin, Andrew, and starts living a little, things become dangerous. Bad things start happening. Are they connected to her case?

I found myself relating more to Hayden’s roommate, Emilie, than to her. I hope Emilie will be featured in an upcoming book. She lives life “at full volume.” Andrew was an interesting character as well. He’s a senator’s son with a secret passion who also wants to make a difference by helping immigrant children.

I enjoyed the story line more than the characters. There was lots of action and suspense which I liked. There wasn’t too much legalese to bog things down. It was my first book by this author and I would recommend giving it a try.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

If you like legal thrillers, this is a good read. While not up to the level of a John Grisham page turner, this novel will hold your interest until the end.

However, there are a couple of problems. One, it is a predictable romance story. Two, there is a secondary character who is important to the story, but we never find out what happens to this person. And three, it is Christian fiction, yet there is little reference to the spiritual part of the characters' lives. It is unclear which of the characters are born again believers and who is just a good lost person.

BEYOND JUSTICE by Cara Putman A gripping thriller, a wrongful death case, going against the government. All add up for Hayden to tackle to get ahead as a lawyer. No time for a relationship, but her roommate's.cousin Andrew, could change that. Andrew was a shadow of his Congressman dad, so anyone he dated would be plastered in all the papers. Hayden is given a new case, but it was filed in the wrong court. The kid deserved justice, the odds were high, would she win, or be destroyed by trying. Andrews dad wants the senator spot, now vacant, expecting Andrew's help. How could either have a life, outside the demands of court and public. By chance he befriends an immigrant boy, his mother wants justice for her son's death. The lawyer, is Hayden, Andrew wonders what is going on. Will they unite to help, or a case outside the courtroom also. A good flowing story, rich description of the characters, all would love reading. Given ARC by Net Galley for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Tension and suspense push this exciting novel to the end.
Hayden,Andrew and Emilie plus all the other secondary characters brings us an exciting thriller set in Washington during Cherry Blossom time.
To forefront is the issue of juvenile detainees by ICE and the far reaching tentacles of drug cartels.
I recommend this novel to anyone that likes legal thrillers.
A copy was given to me by the publisher and my opinions are 100% my own

I’m not much for legal fiction – and I’ll admit those scenes weren’t my favorites – but the law aspects of Beyond Justice are incredibly well-done and interesting. Hayden’s case is a mix of murder, immigration, cartel threats, and hope. She’s fighting for answers for her client, and she’s fighting her growing feelings for Andrew Wesley, her roommate’s cousin.

Hayden is a lovely character – feisty, persistent, and strikingly realistic as she struggled with her attraction to Andrew and with this bewildering case. I really enjoyed following her through her investigation, getting a glimpse into D.C. outside of the Capitol. Andrew is equally realistic and intriguing. There’s a nice cast of secondary characters, but all the names did get a little confusing. So many lawyers!

If you like Cara Putman’s style, you’ll love her foray into legal suspense.

Beyond Justice by Cara Putman
Wow oh Wow!
What do you do when you know something isn't right and justice needs to be done but you just can't find out what really happened to right the wrong? This is what kept Hayden going. Then after more suspicious and dangerous things started happening she was all the more certain justice needed to be found.
This book was so packed full of murder, suspense, action, drama, intrigue and a bit of romance! The author Cara Putman has really blown us away with this new series. It starts out fast and never stops. I stayed up late and didn't want to put the book down. This book will make you start looking over your shoulder just to make sure no one is watching you.
I also loved learning all about the legal side of things and a bit of politics. It doesn't fall too far from current events in our country and the author does a good job showing concerns that might be valid now.
I received a copy of this wonderful book from the author to read. All opinions are my own.
Now I’m looking forward to the other books in this series!

"Beyond Justice" was my first book by Cara Putman and will not be my last.
I thought it was extremely well written. The author knows how to build a plot! How to bring in intense and suspenseful moments that kept me sitting on the edge my chair, but also lighthearted moments that give a good feeling to the book. Even though, to be honest I was so curious to have the mystery solved that even the normal day-to-day scenes had me on alert for the next clue or mysterious happening that could be coming in the next paragraph.
Hayden McCarthy is passionate about was she does and I was really enveloped by the scenes in which she used her skills to what mattered most.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend to those who enjoy a suspense novels :)

I read this book in two days and I absolutely loved it. From the well-developed characters to the mystery, murder, intrigue, romantic interest, and suspense, I put everything on hold to read this legal drama. I couldn't put it down. Cara Putman hit a home run with this story.

Fans of legal suspense dramas will want to read this! A compelling story that could be pulled from today's headlines, with smart characters who grow on you, and a plot that weaves together suspense and legal drama to keep it intriguing.

The author takes the reader by the hand and skillfully navigates through complex legal processes, and layers of government agencies, all the while unfolding a story with action and a bit of romance. Hayden's character grew a lot from a stereotypical ambitious lawyer, to someone who cared about the people involved. I like how she made the switch from just taking a case, to seeing the client's need for defense, realizing that "either everyone mattered or nobody did." Increased action, suspense and a few twists kept this interesting up to the end. Hoping this is the start of a series, as the ending hints.
Readers who enjoy legal and political suspense will probably like this one. 4.5 stars

Beyond Justice is a hard review for me to write. Cara Putman did a first class job writing a legal mystery complete with all the steps to establish timeline events through legal rules of discovery. I was fascinated by how lawyer Hayden McCarthy pieced together the facts of the case. Just excellent.

However, there were some inconsistencies in the misuse of names that pulled me out of the story and enough implausible facts in the action aspects of the story to affect the final outcome of the book and my review.
I would enjoy another Putman book if based on mainly a legal suspense, this is where the author excels.

This was a great read! Although it never dragged, after the halfway point I was totally drawn in and didn't want to put it down.

I really liked the way the author drew Hayden's character. She was a strong woman, yet vulnerable. I appreciated that she was a woman of faith and that she asked God for help. She didn't have a perfect family background. She knew how to be a good friend. Although a tad intimidated by her roommate's cousin Andrew, she nonetheless pulled together enough confidence to give a relationship with him a try.

Oh, and Hayden was a really good, tough lawyer who wasn't easily intimidated in this male-dominated milieu. The way she stuck with the case to produce a good outcome for her client was admirable!

Especially recommend for anyone who likes legal thrillers.

If you like thriller/suspense stories especially with a legal element, you'll want to pick this one up right away! This Thomas Nelson title by Cara Putman is a sure winner with an engaging new heroine, Hayden, a successful lawyer on the verge of partnership. But things get complicated with she falls in love with a politician's son and when she's assigned a new troubling case adverse to the government. Putman keeps all the balls in the air expertly and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.
