A book about the brutal civil war that saw the murder of far too many Rwandans.
This book looks at the aftermath and the ways in which the women began to fashion new lives from the ashes and brought the country forward

The rest of the world should take lessons from Rwanda. During the rebuilding of life after 1994 genocide, the people of Rwanda particularly the women were instrumental in completely changing their way of life. You didn't hear much about this country after 1994 but we should have. They implemented new laws, broke down old mindsets and traditions dealing with how women were treated, and so much more. This was a fascinating read as it was told by the women who were at the forefront of the change.

I have been fortunate to visit Rwanda a few times over the past 3 years. I immediately fell in love with the country and the people. I started reading about their sad history and how this has impacted the people. This book in turn is extremely positive and hopeful seeing how the women are doing their part and leading in making a change.

I loved it! I learned a lot about the perspectives of women who lived through the Rwandan genocide, and will recommend this book to students who are interested in this topic.

I've read articles on this topic before but the book does a lot more by adding context and taking us carefully through the last two decades in this unprecedented story of a nation rebuilt by women. It's an authentic look into the lives of inspiring women. The book sets the tone from the very first chapter by exploring and contrasting the experiences of women and society's expectations of them.
