This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. When I read the opening chapters I wasn't sure my heart was strong enough. When Carrie comes back to the town as a true crimes fiction writer determined to find closure and be able to move on with her life, she sets off a new frenzy of killings.

The pedophile killer having barely escaped capture when a couple of teenager boys wandered into his crime scene learned from that incident. He has been quietly indulging his appetites under the radar of the rest of the town. Carrie is the only victim to escape. Determined to get to her again for a grand finale he starts off a chain of killings intended to keep the police force in the town busy and distracted.

The author does a fantastic job of taking her readers into the killers brain even as we don't know who he is. In the meantime Sheriff Cole Landry gets through to Carrie in a way no one else has before freeing her in so many ways. It's a horrifyingly fascinating race for the finish to find the killer before he once again escapes justice.

I am not sure if this was a part of a series since I later found that it was published a long time ago but I do intend to go find out.

Desiree Holt is one of my go to authors for hot romance so when I read this wonderful mystery I was pleasantly surprised. Yes there are a couple of hot scenes in this book but it really is all about the mystery and growing romance between Cole & Dana. It just goes to prove that Ms. Holt can write just about anything and make you love it.
