Insects as cuisine? I am one of the many who balked at the idea.
In this book, however, we get to learn about the farming methods, the types of cuisine and the facts and myths.
There is humor here and there to break the monotony, but what I love most was the knowledge I brought away from this book. Social justice, environmental sustainability and perceptions: these are things I have never thought of when it comes to insects. The author did a good job of making the knowledge accessible for even children to understand, although I felt that some parts of the book were not organized properly.
I strongly recommend reading this book.

Eat the Beetles! by David Waltner-Toews focused more on insects in general than on people eating them. The book was interesting. I was looking for something less scientific and more cultural. This does not make it back - just not for me. If you are interested in the science of insects, Eat the Beetles! is for you.

EEEEE Yuck!! I don't know what else to say! No, just kidding! I am sure there are plenty of people who will enjoy reading this book about edible critters. I can think of a few brave souls actually. I'm not among them... Still it is interesting to think that insects may be a viable food source in the future. Most are high in protein, I've heard. Just not for me. The book was fascinating to read and anyone interested in learning more about insects as food should read it. As a matter of fact, anyone interested in how the future world will be fed will want to read this. Personally, if it comes down to insects within my life time, I'll go vegetarian.
