When Dan finds his wife, dead, on the bathroom floor he couldn’t be more shocked. Especially as he is on a business trip.
He is desperate to clear his name and find out who killed her.
This for me was a very flat read and I wasn’t excited to read it. Thank you for this arc, despite it sitting on my kindle for some time.

This was difficult to get through. Far-fetched, convoluted, and the writing was somewhat amateurish,

Daniel Cooper is a serial cheater. While his wife is home, 70 miles away, Daniel plays with the pretty little receptionist at the hotel where he is staying.

Much to his surprise, his wife shows up ... dead in the bathtub. He has no idea how she got there or why, but he knows that he will be the first person the cops look at. There is a message on her phone telling her which room he's in ... and it supposedly came from his phone.

Panicking, he goes on the run ... Someone is trying to frame him for his wife's murder. But who ... and why?

I will start by saying I didn't like any of the characters. Daniel comes across as a very self-absorbed individual. His thought processes are always "I" with no thought to anyone else. He takes what he wants when he wants. His wife is not a fully developed character. The receptionist comes across as just strange. Her emotions vs the things she does doesn't gel.

Daniel is determined to clear his name, but he's running from the police. He has cut his hair and beard. He's afraid whoever is framing him is still watching him, although he's now many miles away.

And then there is another killing ... another person who has ties to Daniel.

Did Daniel have a mental break and kill these people? Or is there really someone following him, framing him for the murders?

The first half of the book is his traveling, but it's filled with Daniel's thoughts, his ideas, his fears. He constantly makes the wrong decisions, making everything worse. There is the mystery, but it's not suspenseful... a little predictable, as well. Not this author's best book.

Many thanks to the author / Thomas & Mercer / Netgalley for the digital copy of ONLY THE TRUTH. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I have heard good things about this author, and this book sounded like it would be a good mystery, but it was not meant to be. It could have been good but its just not. The actions of almost everone in this book is just not right, the story is horribly stretched out, and it was very hard to get to the not so surprising ending.

I'm torn on how much I liked this story. I love the mystery, slow reveal of it, but the main character is very unlikable. He's a self-absorbed jerk, to put it nicely. He's a married man, cheating on his wife as part of his routine, and when his wife turns up dead in his hotel room, his first thought is to run away and worry about things later. Not really a hero response.

I found some of the twists and actions to be unbelievable, which made the story hard to buy into, but it might be the difference between the story's Europe setting, and my Canadian experiences. I won't get into the specifics, but it just seemed unlikely.

Overall, I liked the premise of the story more than the actual story, but there is a good mystery/action element, and the story does progress rather quickly, albeit with a fair bit of repetition. It is a decent read if you're in the mood for a whodunit though.

Croft's newest book does not live up to Her Latest Tomorrow. While it was an OK read, it was not the page turner I had anticipated. Using the first person point of view with a character that is quite boring and repetitive didn't play well. Overall this book was just an easy to read psuedo thriller.

I really enjoyed this book immensely. It pulled me in from the first page and kept me hanging on until the very last. The story was well thought out and written with the main character well developed to the point that I alternately liked then hated him. I never would have guessed the ending, it came as a total surprise. This is just a great book all around and I look forward to reading more from this author.

I've liked Croft in the past but this novel just didn't hold my attention and I did not finish. The basic plot line is one we've seen before= the accused husband trying to clear his name- but Dan was not a compelling enough character for me to care about his situation. Sorry Netgalley, which granted me the ARC, but this one didn't do it for me.

Dan Cooper is a crap husband. He doesn’t know the meaning of the word fidelity and spends his free time cavorting with other women. One day, away on a business trip, Dan returns to his hotel room to find his wife Lisa dead in the bed. All clues point to Dan as a killer and he panics and runs. Running across Europe, Dan’s invisible enemy is making sure that the police consider him a prime suspect in the death of his wife. Who has he pissed off so badly, they would want to kill Lisa and send him to jail for the rest of his life. There are some big surprises in this twisted tale of revenge. Tremendous fun

A really gripping read. I really enjoyed the story line and found the book to be very well written. I'll be keeping a look out for Adam's books in the future
