My first book by R.T. Kendall, I've heard a lot about him, a reason I picked this book when I saw it on Net Galley.

Every book will have good things and faults, but I must say, I found this book really inspiring and eye-opening.

I've read a lot of books on Worshipping and have had my own understanding vs. wrestling with my shyness and bringing up, vs. what's taught in churches and what's right. I got a lot of my questions answered here and I am sure, I will be reading it over and over again, and will go back to referencing this often.

It is a book that's written in a way it is easy to read and understand without compromising the intensity and sensitivity of the topic. This books makes it easy to see through, question one's belief and understanding and explains what it means to give up control to God and connect with Him, the right way.

As someone who has drifted into involvement in worship leading simply because I am a musician, I found this book provided an extremely helpful overview of the "bigger picture" of worship and the different ways it can be expressed. Worship is so much more than just music and this book helped me consider the heart behind worship- focussing on God, rather than ourselves or others- and that it is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that we can truly worship.
I appreciated the focus on different aspects and expressions of worship, such as preaching, prayer spiritual gifts, fasting and liturgy, as well as music and singing.
Kendall's writing is bold and thought-provoking. While I didn't agree with all of his conclusions, there was a lot that I found helpful and I appreciated that it helped me think through the topic of worship in more detail than I have before and it challenged me to look at certain aspects in a fresh way.

This is a book about worship that should be read and re-read by serious Christian. Very engaging and easy to understand. I was enriched by this book and have recommended it to my sister.

Thank you Netgalley for this book

WORSHIPPING GOD
R. T. KENDALL

MY RATING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️▫️
PUBLISHER Charisma House Book Group
PUBLISHED April 4, 2017

SUMMARY
WORSHIPPING GOD explores the way we honor and glorify God. The greatest worship service that ever took place was the Day of Pentecost. R.T. Kendall explores what it was about that day, as well as other major worship events that made them so powerful. He shows us the importance of the presence of the Holy Spirit to bring about a change of heart.

Guitars, singing, or prayerbooks aren't the main attractions to a worship service, according to Kendall. What is important, is pleasing God by being totally open to the will of the Holy Spirit. We learn we can release the Holy Spirit and ourselves by keeping peace in our hearts with everyone we know.

Each chapter of WORSHIPPING GOD focuses on a different elements of worship. There are twenty-six chapters in this book on worship topics such as listening, preaching, expectancy, angels, personality, and heaven. The book emanates from a series of lectures Kendall gave as a minister at Westminister Chapel.

REVIEW
I found this book easy to read and easy to understand. I loved Kendall's initial story of bonefishing in the Florida Keys without a guide, despite advice from seasoned fishermen. With each fishing trip, he hung his head and slunk back to the docks with his empty ice chest. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to see, let alone catch a bonefish, Kendall swallowed his pride and hired the best guide he could find. And finally with help from the guide he caught five bonefish. Just as Kendall could not spot bonefish without a fishing guide leading the way, we cannot fully grasp the Bible and the spiritual truths without the Holy Spirit as our guide. Kendall showed us we all have to be willing to swallow our pride and ask the Holy Spirit for help.

As a Catholic, I struggled with a part of his chapter on liturgy, as it relates to sacraments. With that exception, I found something interesting and useful in every chapter. Chapter 11 on Lifestyle sported one of my favorite quotes.

What we are individually, twenty four hours a day, is more important than what happens in church once a week. The secret of acceptable worship lies in how we are at home or at work, and when we are alone and nobody knows what we are doing.

R.T. Kendall uses bible stories and verses to support his thoughts on worshipping. Dr. Kendall was born and educated in the United States. He received a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford. He served as the minister at the Westminster Chapel in London for 25 years between 1977 to 2002. He is now a popular speaker and author, living in the United States. He was written over 60 books including Total Forgiveness, Holy Fire and Thanking God.

I recommend this book for anyone desiring to get more out of their relationship with God.

Thanks to Charisma House Book Group and NetGalley for an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Worshipping God was a book that really opens your eyes to the way we as Christians worship God and how we should worship Him. R.T. Kendall touches on every aspect of our faith and how we not only can apply each it each Sunday in church, but how we can be aware each and every day of our relationship with God. Each chapter is written with such heartwarming stories, reference to Scripture and R.T. Kendall"s personal experiences. I felt so connected to what he was saying and was reaffirmed through every chapter. If we want to improve our ways to worship God, this is an excellent book!
