Readers are in safe hands (most of the time) with Koontz. He tells a story that while seeming to be tinged by makers of the master, Stephen King but then he twists and subverts them to something weirder and darker. I'm very excited to read more stories featuring Jane Hawk.

I have retrospectively read this book after reading the sequel and still absolutely loved it. Because I have read the rest of the series already I knew what was going on but it just gave me more insight and perspective on what is happening in the novel.

I can highly recommend this series especially if you love good conspiracy theory. The plot is frightening and very very real

Any Dean Koontz book is going to be s well written, suggestive piece and this one is no different. The problems that I had with this book were small - mainly that it is the first in a series - I did not expect that twist, so was extremely surprised by the ending!! However, the other issue was that I had the constant thought that I had read this previously. The private play park brought to mind a similar concept, where the main character went in the guise of a member, but that the only escape was to hunt and kill a human. I cannot think what the other book was or by whom it was written but the echoes of that impacted on my enjoyment off this one. if you have not read the book and come to this premise cold, then you will really enjoy this book. Fir me, that echo of a similar book was enough for me to actually score only a four star review.

I love thrillers and this sounded amazing, however for me it failed to deliver as I was not sucked in the story as I wanted to me. I think my issue was the main character that I struggled to form an emotional connection with and the plot really didn't grab me as much. The dialogue was stilted. And while the characters were interesting, they never felt quite real and I couldn't connect.

his thrilling new series from Dean Koontz gets off to a flying start. Things are going well for Jane Hawks when out of the blue her husband commits suicide. A reeling and griefstricken Jane is on leave from the FBI when she decides she is going to look into this, taking the precaution of hiding her five year old son away. She becomes aware that there are other talented people who have similarly committed suicide. As she tried to get to the bottom of this horrifying phenomena, she finds herself going off the grid. She is being hunted down by so many people who will do anything to eliminate her and Jane has problems in finding anyone she can trust. This is a sinister story of lies, government corruption, espionage and a shocking conspiracy.

The use of surveillance to track Jane down is an unsettling experience. In a fast paced novel with short chapters, we root for Jane as she attempts to evade and escape dangerous forces in search of the truth. There is plenty of suspense in the gripping narrative although there are plenty of unanswered questions by the end, presumably they will be answered in the next in the series. Jane is a great central character, strong and courageous, determined that nothing will stop her. The twisted use of technology in the book is a frightening prospect.

This is possibly only the second Dean Koontz book that I’ve ever read. The Silent Corner certainly appealed to me: an edgy, fast-paced thriller with a dark undercurrent. The abuse of technology as a central theme for the nefarious goings on throughout the book were well thought out and very plausible.

Following the inexplicable suicide of her husband, FBI agent Jane Hawk takes a leave of absence to research an unexpected spike in suicide rates around the country. With no signs of depression in her husband, and no known reason Jane believes there must be another explanation.

What follows is a race against time to prove what she knows to be true, toppling an organised group of corrupt power players with tendrils spreading across America. Their vices deep and dark, leading Jane into the Dark Web, and corners of the human mind too grim to contemplate. She must stay out of the crosshairs of those she hunts, and remain one step ahead of the authorities, including her very own FBI.

With short, punchy chapters I felt the action moved along at a really good pace, never feeling too laboured. The story covers a wide range of dark topics but isn’t too heavy. While the descriptive text in the book at times becomes a bit overused for my liking, it doesn’t diminish what is an action filled, dramatic thriller.

Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read this. It took me ages to get around to embarking on this book - actually should not have bothered ! I really liked Jane Hawk and thought the idea for the book made a change but it was so pedestrian I almost gave up several times and then disaster ! The book doesn't end on the final page....actually it is 4 no 5 books later !!! I felt conned by the author dragging out ONE idea for a book over so many separate books without arriving at the ending. Seems a good money spinning ruse if you are famous enough to pull it off. Never read anything by Dean Koontz before and am unlikely to in the future, sorry.

Great book, great characters and a gripping subject matter! What more can you expect from DK! Not like anything I've read before of his and I can't wait for the next instalment!!

What a way to start a series. Prepare to be sucked in to a world that feels light years from now but could actually be next week. A book full of relentlessness, questions, fear, mystery, suspense, secrets, loss, more questions and in the middle of it one woman with her mission. Survive, protect, solve. A brilliant read!

Dean tells the story of Jane Hawk in a way that keeps you reading till the end, whether or not you want to.

It was ok. I found this hard going and drawn out. Not something I would recommend to others. It was not really what I thought it would be.

A great, fast-paced thriller! While the heroine was, rather predictably, extremely beautiful, clever and able to get out of increasingly tight situations, I still couldn't put it down. The storyline is incredibly well-researched and quite topical. I was both annoyed and pleased that this is a four-part story, storming through the second book straight away. I'll wait for the fourth to be released in Dec-18 so I can read the third and fourth in one go.

Not for me. Don't like the main character, plot is choppy and irritating enough to DNF at 6%, not interested in anymore.

I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author.
I really enjoyed this book! One of the best detective/thriller novels I have read for a long time, and I'm very much looking forward to reading the next in the series.
I was kept on the edge of my seat throughout, and the story was involving and gripping, while being incredibly interesting and exploring some darker technological themes that are hugely relevant today.
One slight niggle was the over-use of hyperbole in some situations, but otherwise I would fully recommend this book.

I've heard a lot of good things about this author and the book started off by throwing you deep into the story, however after a few chapters I started getting confused with the story and even tried to reread it but I couldn't get into the book unfortunately. It was a fast paced book which is good for a thriller but it was a bit too fast pace for me.

I will admit to never having read a book by this author but this one intrigued me. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. This was full of action and suspense from start to finish and I would gladly make my way through this author's works.

I love Dean and this book has got to be one of my favourites of his. Exciting from start to finish. Jane is excellent and I can't wait to read more of her.

Dean R Koontz has always been the master of horror and once again with this brilliant read, he proved the fact again. This was a thrilling read, and I enjoyed it from page one to the very end.
Recommended.

I haven’t read this book, it isn’t one that interests me sadly. I just didn’t want to turn that page.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book as I'd often seen novels by Dean Koontz in my local bookshop and had ignored them as I thought they weren't my type. I understand that this (proposed) trilogy of books is a departure from his normal style - maybe he ought to write more thrillers! I thought the start of the book was good and got my attention - a lone woman who is running away, checking her every move and using false identities to ensure she isn't found because what she's looking into has put her life in danger. I'm not totally sure I like Jane Hawk as a character, but she's a strong lead and the book is full of action.
