Marjorie was trained to be a lady’s maid or a governess, but when her brother is made a Duke due to distant family connections, she hopes to take her place among London society. Unfortunately, society sees her as an impudent upstart and refuses to accept her. Her brother’s recent marriage to a Scottish woman prompts her to travel to the Highlands for a visit and a respite from the cold, unfeeling people that are rejecting her. Graeme is a chieftain, unsure of how to placate the leader of his clan who wants to unseat the new English Duke in their region. When his presumptuous younger brothers kidnap the Duke’s sister in an ill-conceived plan to win favor, he is in a bit of a bind. But the Duke’s sister is not the fine, uppity lady he expected, and her situation becomes more complicated each day.
The story has great characters. The plot is engrossing and enjoyable ,filled with intrigue, confrontation, mischief, danger and the beautiful Highland setting in this delightful novel which is a lovely story to escape into for anyone who enjoys their Regency romantic suspense.
I want to thank the author for giving me a copy to read.

It's been awhile since I've read a book by Suzanne Enoch but My One True Highlander reminded me of why I've always enjoyed her novels. This is a fast-paced story with adventure, sizzle, family dynamics, clan feuds, a battle of wills, and plenty of humor. But while all that is appealing, it's the characters Enoch creates that are the heart of this book. She brings them to life, not in the way she describes them but by allowing them to show us who they are through their actions and interactions.
Graeme is my favorite kind of hero. He's rugged and untamed, willing to fight to protect his family, tenants, and land. He doesn't back away from responsibility. In fact, he's been responsible for raising his younger brothers since their parents died when Graeme was twenty. Yet, for all that he's a warrior, scenes with his youngest brother show he has a soft side as well. But his is a bachelor household and the introduction of Marjorie, first as an unplanned prisoner and eventually as more, brings about wonderful banter and a rousing battle of wills as the rough edges of the Maxton men (and boys) are slowly refined (but not too much) by a feminine touch.
Unexpectedly thrust from paid lady's companion to Duke's sister, Marjorie has spent the past few months living her dream though the reality isn't living up to her expectations. London, it seems, isn't quite ready to accept the fact that her former soldier brother is now a duke and Marjorie is now a lady, no matter how much money she now has nor how proper or perfect she is determined to be. When Graeme's younger brothers kidnap her from an inn near their home while she's enroute to her brother's wedding, they have no idea of the havoc one ticked off woman can cause. Marjorie is not about to let some uncivilized Scots derail her long-held dream of being accepted by the ton, even if the youngest one is capturing her heart with his sweet nature and the oldest is capturing the interest of her other body parts. I admired Marjorie's determination, sympathized with her confusion over where her happiness lay, and cheered her on every step of the way.
Enoch has surrounded Graeme and Marjorie with a rich and colorful cast of secondary characters, including a lovesick blacksmith, starchy lady's companion, nasty villain, and three younger brothers who are all vividly realistic, adding texture, humor, and poignancy to the overall story.
My One True Highlander is the second book in Enoch's No Ordinary Hero duet but stands well on its own. However, I enjoyed it so much that I immediately downloaded the first book, Hero in the Highlands and am looking forward to reading the story of Marjorie's brother, Gabriel and his English-despising, Scottish heroine, Fiona.

The Romance Dish

I love her books, and I thoroughly enjoyed this one also. Marjorie has just been made a "lady" because one of her relatives past away giving the dukeship to her brother Gabriel, a soldier. She thinks that is what she wants, and hires a companion to help her, but she gets snubbed constantly and is not happy. She decides to go to Scotland for her brothers wedding. She ends up getting kidnapped by Graems brothers, who want to help him with the Maxwell and they hope this will make them accepted. Graem can not believe his brothers did this, he understands that they just wanted to help, but they actually brought more problems to his door. Graem meet Marjorie, and advises her he can not let her go, that he was going to marry her, which ofcourse she objects to. Their banter was funny, ofcourse as they spend time together, they fall in love, and she finds herself accepted, and at home with his family and clan.

Lady Marjorie is on her way to the Highlands in order to surprise her older brother and his soon to be wife. What Marjorie did not know was that she was stumbling right into the middle of a clan war, and her brother is involved.
Graeme is a chieftain of clan Maxton. When his chief of Clan Maxton asks him to stand against Lattimer and be rewarded. Graeme finds a lot of trouble on his hands. First, he is unsure if he wants to kill the new Duke, but he is also aware that their money is running low and he has a lot of people relying on him.
Well, when his younger brothers overhear the conversation, they step up in an attempt to help. But, when they kidnap the duke’s sister and dump her under Graeme’s roof, the trio instead, end up causing more trouble for Graeme then good.
This was so much fun. It’s my first book by Enoch and I am super glad I read it. I enjoyed it so much, I really want to go back and read the first book, since the first book kind of sets up the conflict between Lattimer and Maxton.
Graeme and Marjorie were delightful. I love the slow romance that builds between them, despite the conflict that Graeme’s brother’s have caused. But, Graeme was not the one who kidnapped her, nor did he ever intend on doing so. Still, watching the two butt heads was super fun and amusing.
I especially had a fun time when Graeme dug himself such a hole that he had to go out of his way and commit a similar crime by kidnapping Marjorie’s lady companion.
I also loved the family dynamics happening there. Graeme has been taking care of his younger brothers for a long time, on top of taking care of people who live on his land. He is hard working and loyal to a fault. Definitely someone that Marjorie needed by her side, considering his Chief of the clan would love to see her dead in order to get back at her brother.
Gah this was fabulous. It reminds me how much I love historical romances set in Scotland and feel the need to read more. The book started a bit slow for me, as it took me a few pages to get used to the dialect again. But once I was set, it took off and never really let me go. I really, really enjoyed everything about this – including the writing.
I did feel bad for Graeme. He was put in a bad predicament. He didn’t want to give Marjorie up to his Chief because he knew she would get hurt, but he also couldn’t let her go because he had his brothers to worry about.
I think the only thing I did not like about this was Marjorie being so hung up on London and her belonging there even if she never really did. She is a new heiress and is having trouble fitting in. She is lonely and would need to spend a lot of money and a lot of years trying to get people in that society to care and would likely marry a fortune hunter.
She fits right into Graeme’s household and grew on everyone around here and there, people cared.
Also, the ending felt like it wrapped up a little too perfectly.
But, overall, this was a fun read and I really enjoyed this.

I have always loved Suzanne's books and this one is going on my keeper shelf along with all her other books.
This is the second book in The No Ordinary Hero Series.
Graeme, Viscount Maxton is a genuine rugged handsome highlander. He takes care of everyone who looks to him for protection. He is raising his three younger brothers as best that he can. Teaching them what they need to know so that they can survive in the Highlands where loyalty is essential and treachery is always close by. Graeme is Laird of his estate The Lion's Den which is part of Clan Maxwell. Graeme has money problems, tenant problems and worst of all he does not get along with the leader of Clan Maxwell.
Lady Marjorie Forrester is the sister of the Duke of Lattimer (the hero in the first book in the series) and has decided to go to Scotland to surprise her brother and attend his wedding. While stopping at an Inn in the Highlands she is kidnapped and brought to the stronghold of the Laird of The Lion's Den by Graeme's younger brothers, thinking that Graeme can give Lady Marjorie to The Duke of Maxwell, his overlord, to use against his enemy the Duke of Lattimer. What a mess!! Now Graeme has to figure out a way to protect his brothers and decide what to do with Lady Marjorie.
Marjorie and Graeme start out as enemies but gradually become friends and so much more. Their journey of discovery is full of obstacles that they will have to overcome to have their HAE. Suzanne's writing is witty, heartfelt and she takes you on an adventure that includes mischievous young boys, lots of stray animals, and great secondary characters that I hope will have their own stories.
I recommend this book and this series. This is a wonderful read that will leave you waiting impatiently for the next book in the series.

Suzanne Enoch gives the opposite attract, enemies-to-lovers trope an intriguing spin with this historical romance set in the Highlands. Lady Marjorie Forrester’s brother has unexpectedly inherited a dukedom. As the sister of the Duke of Lattimer, her material circumstances have changed, she doesn’t need to work anymore and resides in the prestigious neighborhood of Mayfair. And yet she feels that she doesn't fit into London Society and is snubbed by the ton. To surprise her brother, she travels to the Highlands and is kidnapped on her way to Lattimer Castle by Viscount Graeme Maxton’s younger brothers.
Graeme is faced with an impossible choice: let her go or hand her over to his clan chief, the despicable Duke of Dunncraigh, who is in dispute with her brother. The first choice would cause him a lot of trouble with the law and her brother, the last one would be financially beneficial to his clan, but would be against his principles. Graeme is a clan chieftain, responsible for the well-being and livelihood of hundreds of families.
As it happens, his unwilling guest is very determined and she has only one idea: escape as quickly as possible. There is no trust between her and Graeme, they are enemies. She finds him arrogant and aggravating. On top of that, life in the Highlands is a far cry from London standards. Their chemistry was palpable, though. To save her reputation, Graeme tries to convince her to marry him.
I loved their banter and bickering! Marjorie is stubborn and spirited. She gives Graeme a run for his money and she can’t be forced into anything. But she has come to enjoy her life in the Highlands and to respect Graeme. He is genuine and caring, he has taken on the task of raising his younger brothers and a great responsibility rests on his shoulders, as clan chieftain.
I have read and loved Suzanne Enoch’s Samantha Jellicoe series, but this book was my first historical romance by her. She has woven a lovely story of love triumphing over all obstacles, with vibrant and genuine characters. If you enjoy historical romance, I definitely recommend this book! It is the second installment in the author's No Ordinary Hero series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Lady Marjorie Forrester is traveling to visit her brother in Scotland as he plans to be married. As her coach approaches the Scottish Highlands, Lady Forrester is kidnapped by three young brothers ranging in age from 8 to 16. These boys live with their brother, Graeme, Viscount Maxton, Laird of a crumbling estate bordering her brother's land. Graeme is not aware of his brother's actions and is horrified to learn what they have done. The only way to keep himself and his young brothers safe is to convince Lady Marjorie to marry him! This humorous story has a good plot filled with twists and romance! Delightful to read for those who love historical fiction and tales of Scotland!

A real highland adventure with passion, danger, and love blossoming between two people who thought they were enemies.

Toroughly enjoyed this story. Hope there will be more in this highland story line!

I appreciate a good Highlander story especially when it has a Sassenach as his love interest. I can see where My One True Highlander was going, but I lost interest in the story as it was so slow going. As it was my first Suzanne Enoch book, I wanted to give it a real good try, but when I put it aside to read another book, thinking maybe taking a break from it would give me a renewed vigor in finishing it, I found myself not wanting to go back to it. I hope to go back to it one day and finish out the story, but for now and the immediate future, I don't see that happening. I did really enjoy Graeme and his rambunctious band of younger brothers, and the position the story put him in. I expected more sexual tension, something to be building between Graeme and Marjorie as the captor/captive, but I didn't feel anything. Marjorie was a hard heroine to understand or insert myself into as she's very stiff and focused on things she shouldn't be, and I didn't see enough fire or fight in her. I wanted to see that fire in her go up against Graeme and for that to explode their attraction to one another. Maybe I was hoping for too much, and maybe it did eventually happen, but after reading 33%, with none of that occurring, I lost my steam for the story. This certainly doesn't put me off of future Enoch books, as I think she's a skilled writer, I just think it was more of my wants not fitting with this direct story. It wasn't for me, but I recommend that readers give it a try as it may work greatly for them.

An enjoyable if a little predictable story of girl being kidnapped, disliking then falling in love with the kidnappers' brother .....
The banter between the characters were good, and the hero Graeme so honourable even though his brothers were a tad impulsive.
I voluntarily received an advanced readers copy from Netgalley and my views are my own.

After being dismissed by the Ton, Lady Marjorie decides to visit her brother, the new Duke of Lattimer, in Scotland. Unfortunately, she's kidnapped en route. by the brothers of a laird who think she'll be a bargaining chip to help their clan. Graeme, a poor viscount, knows he could use her or force her into marriage, but he won't; regardless, he must keep her safe. Their time together changes from her imprisonment to a "governess" for his brother as their desire for each other grows. Kidnapped a second time, Graeme saves her. She'll only marry for love and he's never had time for love--will each give in a little before it's too late?
Fantastic story set in the wilds of the Highlands. I highly recommend.
**I received a copy of the story on NetGalley**

Rugged Highlander Graeme Maxton is a Scottish viscount who has been raising his three younger brothers since his parents died eight years ago. His brothers overhear their Highland Chief, the Duke of Dunncraig, wanting to drive the Duke of Lattimer out of the Highlands and he offers a reward to anyone who helps him accomplish his goals. Graeme and his brothers have not been on the best of terms with Dunncraig so the three younger brothers decide the best course of action is to kidnap the Duke of Lattimer’s sister and take her to Dunncraig. Lady Marjorie is new to society and she spends unsuccessful days trying to fit into proper society. So when Lady Marjorie received news that Gabriel, the Duke of Lattimer is to going to wed she decides to surprise him. She's tired of missing out on his life and plans to attend his wedding not knowing there are Clan wars and trouble going on in the Highlands. Graeme thinks Marjorie is just another rich aristocrat, but what to do with her he knows his brothers could be arrested for kidnapping her. Graeme decides he needs to protect his brothers and later realizes he also needs to protect Marjorie aka “Ree”. The passion is sizzling and the story is captivating. I loved the interaction between them and also Ree with his brothers especially when she wins them all over in the end.
I voluntarily read this eBook from Net Galley and this is my honest review.

This is a historical highland escapade with clan disputes, daring younger brothers and danger as well as romance. Following her brother unexpectedly becoming the Duke of Lattimer, Lady Marjorie Forrester is still coming to terms with her new station in life and members of the ton seem reluctant to accept her newly elevated status. Her brother has moved to his new estate in the Highlands and, when Marjorie learns that he is planning to marry, she decides to surprise him by leaving London to visit him and meet his betrothed.
She sets out with her companion, Mrs Giswell, and a couple of drivers Unfortunately she was unaware of the clan wars in the area and is kidnapped en route. Her captors turn out to be the younger brothers of the laird of the area and their antics leave him with a serious dilemma. Should he send her on to her brother who owns the neighbouring land or to his Chieftain who is in dispute with her brother. He knows that his brothers will be in trouble if her brother learns of their actions but that he will be in danger if his Chieftain learns he had her captive and didn’t hand her over to him - he doesn’t want to get stuck in the middle of the clan feud. He’s stuck between a rock and a hard place - even more so when he’s attracted to this feisty lass!
The story has great characters, from the so practical yet ingenious Marjorie, to her companion, the very proper ’determined to be seen to follow the rules’ Mrs Giswell, and onto the hardworking Graeme and his brothers. There’s intrigue, confrontation, mischief, danger and the beautiful Highland setting in this delightful novel which is a lovely story to escape into for anyone who enjoys their Regency romantic suspense with a distinctly Scottish flavour.
I requested and received a copy of this story via NetGalley and this is my honest review after reading it.

Lady Marjorie Forrester has only recently come into her title thanks to her brother inheriting a dukedom from a distant uncle.
She has gone from working as a paid companion to employing one herself but society is completely ignoring her. Nobody includes her in their invitations. So when her brother who lives in the highlands of Scotland informs her he is getting married, she decides a surprise visit is in order.
Graeme , Viscount Maxton is a Laird of part of the Maxwell clan and he is at odds with the overall leader of the clan who is trying to bully him into acting against his conscience. He has his hands full looking after his three young brothers and his people. His brothers decide to help to get him out of trouble . Naturally they make it lots worse.
This is such a lot of fun. The characters are brilliant. How our poor hero stays sane with those naughty boys around I don't know. Our heroine is not one to let anyone stand in her way of what she wants.
You don't have to have read the previous book to enjoy this one but if you have you will know what the background war is all about.
I loved every page.

My One True Highlander by Suzanne Enoch
No Ordinary Hero #2
Highland abduction has never been so much fun! When Lady Marjorie Forrester is kidnapped by three brothers and taken home as booty for their older brother Graeme to negotiate with all of their lives will be changed forever…and for the better. The steps to the dance of romance Graeme and Marjorie are caught up in are a delight to read. There are villains to thwart, animals to save, a few romances in the air and a reuniting of Marjorie with her brother. Graeme doesn’t refer to Marjorie as a lioness without reason and the two of them together are formidable in more than one way. I smiled and cared and enjoyed and really was not ready for the story to end!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars

Suzanne Enoch shines in this story charged with an unwanted attraction, rebellious angst, passion and intrigue. The characters come alive on every page and make it impossible to put down.

I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review. This book tells the story of Lady Marjorie Forrester, sister to Gabriel Forrester from Book 1 in the series, No Ordinary Highlander. Lady Marjorie receives a letter from her brother informing her of his upcoming marriage, which he plans to celebrate with her in the spring when the weather has improved for traveling. Having missed out on most of their lives though with her brother being in the army and her being in boarding school, Marjorie decides this is one event she won't be missing and immediately departs for the north. Unknown to her, she's walking right into the middle of a clan war between the Maxwell clan and her brother's newly established clan. Graeme Maxton is a laird who lives about 6 hours south of Gabriel. After his parents died when he was 20, he was left to raise his 3 younger brothers and also care for a whole herd of people. Maxwell usually ignores his existence, however his proximity to Gabriel has brought Graeme right into the crossfire of this clan war. And when his younger brothers kidnap Marjorie to try and "help," Graeme then has to figure out what to do with her. And as Lady Marjorie spends more and more time with Graeme and his family, she finds herself fitting into this wild Highland place in a way she never expected.
Overall I really liked this book. I thought that Graeme was a really interesting character and he was so generous and thoughtful and just a great hero for this novel. And his youngest brother is just adorable and I loved the farm yard of pets that they have adopted into their household. While for some authors this plot line might have been unrealistic or unromantic or both, this author does a great job of making the whole thing seem less like Stockholm Syndrome and more like.. fate. The tension and the romance between the two main characters was just perfect. The book also had great supporting characters and plenty of drama with the clan war goings-on.

This story just kind of fell flat for me. I liked the characters and thought they were well developed but I just never felt the chemistry. It seemed like the hero and heroine disliked each other and then all of the sudden they're sleeping together. There was no sexual tension leading up to them getting together. The first half of the book seemed to drag as well. The storyline has potential, it just wasn't executed very well. Then, it comes to an abrupt end. Just left me unsatisfied for being such a long book.

This was an absolute treasure to read. Suzanne Enoch swept me away to another time and place with her detailed descriptive narrative and before I knew it, the words faded away and I was absorbed in it.
Extremely well written and crafted, a great story with a really good build and pace. Lovable, complex characters that made this story, so entertaining, laugh out loud, funny, and who struggled against their underlying sizzling attraction for one another with constant bickering.
But what makes a romance story great for me is that I could watch them fall for each other, feel their protectiveness for one another and even more so feel the anticipation, the want, the desire that they feel for one another. I loved every word! What a gem! Highly Recommended!
