A polished author, a god basic story line- a deep undercover plant, sussing out domestic terrorism. By lying, manipulating and getting it over on the town, the hero does save the day. It is a fun story, and has fun characters.
Its a little obvious at the get go, but great to see the build up and the layers of the characters. What drives them and why, how people justify things, do the ends justify the means? It many cases, yes. But that takes a toll on basic trust.
A good ending and a satisfying read.

One perfect Lie is a terrific book. Lisa Scottoline hit it out of the park with this story. She delivers her plot as a curve ball, but then also as a fast ball. The reader has to be quick to catch all the twists and turns in the book. Without a doubt, this is her best book yet. It's riveting, sinister, revealing, and a fantastic read.

Lisa Scottoline always delivers a good story. This book is no exception with thriller of a suspenseful domestic terrorism scenario. Set outside Philadelphia, an undercover ATF agent settles into the community as a teacher and coach. How he affects the lives in the town is quite astounding. This story could be a true headline. It's well written and a page turner from the start. Having lived many years in Southern New Jersey I was quite familiar with the Philly setting. A great read for young adults and older readers.

First, thanks so much to Netgalley and St. Martin's press for allowing me to read this book and provide an honest review.
I love Lisa Scottoline's books and was thrilled to be given a chance to read her newest book, One Perfect Lie.
I won't reiterate the plot because you can read that anywhere. The first sentence brought me in; the first paragraph sucked me further. And then came Part II and bam!
Lisa Scottoline hit this one out of the park. (Baseball plays a part in the story. See what I did here?)
The story flowed well and I did not see the major twist coming. There was only one scene that I thought a little too contrived, but other than that it was a really great thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time, and I hated to put it down at all. I was thinking about the story when I wasn't reading it.
This was a fabulous read, and the only bad part was that it ended. If you love Lisa Scottoline books, this one is a must read.

Another winner for Lisa Scottoline! The perfect lie is a fun, fast paced mystery with numerous unexpected twists, and well developed characters. I couldn't put it down. I literally read it in one setting. highly recommended.

Chris is an imposter! As a teacher myself, I must say he epitomized all the things that mark him as a "creeper" in my book. I couldn't put it down. I had to maintain constant focus to figure out what he was up to. The characters are realistic and the situations play themselves out in a very realistic way for a small community, making it a bit uncomfortable for me at times. Things aren't always as they seem. Twists and turns keep things moving along until the ending hits you. Did I miss clues leading to this?
This book begs to be devoured so plan ahead, and pay attention to detail...those twists will sneak up on you.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for allowing me an ebook version of this book to read in return for an unbiased review.

I was able to read this book in exchange for an honest review. As with all Lisa Scottoline books, I really enjoyed this one! It was very different than I expected, and part way through the book, I discovered, to my delight, that I was completely wrong in my thoughts about what was going on. This story kept me engaged, and the characters were very realistic. I highly recommend this book for those searching for a good action book.

I love Lisa Scottoline books and as soon as I saw this one offered on Net Galley I immediately requested it. I was very excited when I got approved.
At first I was not liking this Chris guy. He shows up to this high school pretending to be someone he's not. He's checking out these kids and sizing them up. Then he's thinking about the Oklahoma City bombings. I don't like him. Then the story goes on.
There is a lot of stuff going on in this book. This guy insinuates his self into these students lives and into the lives of the community. He tries to become their favorite teacher as well as their favorite coach. He tries to break up best friends. He pits them against each other. Your not really sure of his intentions.
You just know that someone somewhere is looking to reenact the Oklahoma City bombings and that for the book, the anniversary of that catastrophe is coming up. There is a lot of action and once everything is lined up for the reader, it becomes very hard to put this book down. So I suggest starting this book well before your bedtime. Fast paced and well worth the journey.
Thanks St. Martin's Press for approving my request and to Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest review.

I have read every Lisa Scottoline book since discovering her as an author a few years ago. I was eagerly awaiting this one, and very happy to get an advanced copy. The author does a great job of keeping you guessing in this book, there are many twists and turns that leave you unsure of where the story is going and how it is going to be resolved. I really enjoyed learning about the different facets of the characters and I think that the author does a great job of allowing you into their lives and feelings so that you experience the events of the story as they are. This book did not disappoint and I would recommend this to anyone who is a general fiction/mystery fan.

Thank you Net Galley for the free ARC.
This was a suspenseful story and I feel I can't say much more without given the plot away. I have read several of Lisa Scottoline's stories and this one will maybe not be my favorite, but as usually, she builds up tension in the story because you know Chris is not a teacher, but you are unsure of what he really is.

I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
It is not clear from the beginning where this story is going. However there are an excellent range of characters and a very perceptive view into the complex relationships between the boys themselves and the boys and their mothers.
All that is known about Chris from the start is that he is not who he says he is and is playing the role of coach to get involved with the boys. No spoiler alerts****.
A fast paced, exciting read which I really enjoyed. I have now read several books by this author and will definitely be reading others by her.
4.5****

Top notch book again! Lisa Scottoline never fails to disappoint me in her thrillers always managing to throw in at least one twist before the end of the book!

Lisa Scottoline knows how to catch the reader. It was very hard to put down this exciting, suspenseful book. It is set in a high school which has been infiltrated by this very conniving substitute teacher and coach. He seems to be using the likable boys, who have lost their fathers. All is not as it seems though and one races to find out what is happening in this great mystery.

One Perfect Lie is the latest offering from Lisa Scottoline. From the first chapter the reader is drawn into this story. Some twists and some edge of the seat moments (while holding your breath!). Another winner from Ms Scottoline. I was given an early copy to review.

Lisa Scottoline hits another "home run" with this fast-paced thriller, One Perfect Lie. Chris Brennan begins the story when he applies for a teaching position at a Pennsylvania high school using a false name and false documents. It was so creepy to me as he cons the principal of the school into hiring him and befriends three young men on the baseball team. The story jumps into separate stories about the three men's families and continues to whip around and twist until the end. I was so on edge reading this story as it brought me up and down the emotional roller coaster. I love Lisa Scottoline and her witty, down-to-earth demeanor that builds deep and engaging characters. Her writing style is so smart and thrilling, I always feel like I need to rest when I finish one of her books! If you haven't read one of Ms. Scottoline's books, make sure that you read this one! If you have read her books, make sure that you read this one! Three cheers to Lisa Scottoline for her excellent thrillers that appeal to so many readers!
One Perfect Lie by Lisa Scottoline will be available April 11, 2017 by St. Martin's Press. An egalley of this book was made available by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

What a great book.. another hit from Lisa Scottoline
Loved that you are kept guessing about Curt.. lots going on this book that keeps you guessing!

Lisa Scottoline has down it again! Great read which keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters come to life and keep you riveted. This author is totally amazing.

Chris isn't who he says he is. He wasn't born in Wyoming. He's not really a teacher. His name isn't even Chris. He seeks to rent a truck, stockpile fertilizer and ammonium nitrate. The anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing is just a few days away. Before that time he'll infiltrate a high school baseball team and the families of several players will implode. Before the explosion.
Lisa Scottoline is hit or miss for me, and ONE PERFECT LIE is a home run. I had a bit of difficulty in the first part of the book, inundated with too major and minor characters to keep track. At 25% into the story, I finally understood the plot and subplots, who was who and what was happening. Once I realized the intricacies, I became hooked on the story and invested in the characters.
ONE PERFECT LIE has some interesting characters, although is basically a plot driven story. The reasoning behind The Big Planned Event felt a bit shaky, but wasn't a let down. It was less interesting than the subplots of Raz, Jordan and Evan's family dramas.
I'm purposely being cryptic, to avoid spoiling the twist revealed after the first 25%. Don't read too many reviews before reading, someone spoiled it for me without warning.
ONE PERFECT LIE, one of Scottoline's best efforts, will appeal to a broad audience, enough heart for those who enjoy Women's Fiction and enough action for Thriller/Mystery readers.

Lisa Scotttoline never disappoints. Once again I stayed at the edge of my seat. Totally captured the high school life and twisted it in such a way that I stayed up all night reading

For a Philadelphia ex-pat, there is no one better to read than Lisa Scottoline. She never fails to include in her excellent detective type thrillers a brief travelogue of Center City that brings back memories. This time, the story starts in the ex-urbs of the city, in a small, sleepy suburban town where new teacher, Chris, joins the Central Valley High School staff as a history teacher and a baseball coach. He doesn't plan for a long tenure. Chris is actually Curt, and he is an undercover agent for the Fed'l government searching out a suspected bombing plot planned for the anniversary of the bombing of the Murrah building in Oklahoma City. Curt focuses on four players on his baseball team as likely bombers.. Is it perfect Ethan? Slightly crazy Raz? or Logan, son of a single mom who Chris finds unexpectedly attractive. The arrow moves from one to the other as deep family secrets are unveiled, including an illicit affair between one of the boys and a teacher. Then the action moves upstate where a farming community has been destroyed by fracking and people want to get even. The book ends with a cinematic chase right into Independence Mall and Chris ends up saving Ethan from kidnapping in a rescue maneuver worthy of the flying Wallendas.
Perhaps not Scottoline's strongest book (she perhaps does better with a female protagonist), but it will certainly please her strong fan base. Fun to read and with an unexpected romantic ending that will please book clubs.
