I have mixed feelings about this book. It is a good introduction, but better books exist on the subject, and the analysis feels somewhat narrow at time. Conclusions at times feel confusing and self-contradictory.

A deep dive into the science of first impressions. Written fluidly and with a lot of interesting examples and pictures. Perhaps not great as an e-book.

Beginning with the first studies about criminals and their appearances, Alexander Todorov brings the reader in discovering the way we read faces and emotions of other people, by adding complexity chapter by chapter.

This travel in discovering how we manage to have first impressions is enriched by examples and photos; frequently the reader is asked his opinion on comparing two similar images and to find the most aggressive, and such. The use of images helps in understanding the text, that is in the middle between didactic for a generic public and a specific text for experts.

From the text emerges clearly how much the author likes this topic, and by reading it we can discover interesting information about how our brain works and how we relate to others.
