It's everything I hoped it would be and then some. I loved the original movie, and this graphic novel is just splendid. It is comic book gold. You can't go wrong with this one.

'Big Trouble in Little China the Illustrated Novel: Big Trouble in Mother Russia' by Matthew J. Elliott with illustrations by Elena Casagrande is a sequel decades after the film was released. It's written by a member of the RiffTrax staff.

Self-proclaimed red-blooded American hero and ladies man Jack Burton has recently gotten back from his adventures in Little China. He's riding around in the Porkchop Express with a new strange friend, and staying in touch with old friends. He gets a delivery job and winds up in the heart of Russia along with his best friend Wang.

I remember liking the original film, but I don't think I've seen it since the time I saw it in the theater. It feels like they got the characters right, but a little of Jack Burton's swagger goes a long way, especially in light of 2018. He's actually kind of a jerk, so this was a tough read.

There are a handful of illustrations, and they aren't bad. I'm just not sure we needed this sequel at this time.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Boom! Studios and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

I'm sorry, this expired before I could read it as February and March ended up being crazy busy for me.

For fans of the original movie, this is a fun read. The author did a great job of capturing Jack Burton's voice throughout, as well as the adventurous feel of the film. A lot of great one liners and plenty of laughs, plus the crazy plot you would expect.

Unfortunately I was unable to finish this before the permission ran out. I therefore feel it unfair to review the small amount I managed to read. Thank you very much for the opportunity.

DNF. Daft yucks, major exposition and lame cultural references crowbarred in do not a novel make. Also, mis-sold as a graphic novel.

This is very much a book for those who loved the film Big Trouble in little China (shocking!) fills that need for more of the same delicious cheesy goodness.

I mostly requested this book from Netgallery due to nostalgia. Big Trouble in Little China is one of my favorite movies of all time (sad, I know), so I could never insult Jack burton’s memory by not reading this book. However, you shouldn’t color me impressed yet.

While I found this book to be entertaining it is something I feel like would be much better as an 80’s movie. So in that regard, this installment keeps with the aesthetics and style of the original film, carrying it on into written form. That was just my problem. Jack Burton’s character does not translate well onto page, leaving much to be desired on the character front. In fact, most of what I found to be so endearing about the movie just served as an annoyance in the book. The characters were not given much fleshing out, leaving them as page fillers. I was also disappointed in the lack of setting description.

Basically, putting an 80’s movie on paper was not the greatest idea. I would recommend this book as a mindless read for when you’re incredibly bored, but no anything more than that.

What a fun book! Perfectly captures Jack's trademark cluelessness, thoughts, and manner of speaking.

The art wasn't that great though, but if you're going to do art in a book like this, go all out and include more.

Anyone who enjoyed Big Trouble in Little China will love Big Trouble in Mother Russia. It is an off-beat, irreverent, funny tale. I loved the movie "Big Trouble in Little China" with Kurt Russell.

Being a fan of the original movie, I jumped at the chance to review this illustrated novel. From the opening lines the author drags you back into Jacks cab where he is talking into his CB radio. This sets the scene and Mr Elliot captures the tone and dialogue perfectly.

What follows next, I won't spoil, but you'll be pleased know that if you loved Big Trouble in Little China, then you won't be disappointed as Jack Burton and his faithful friend Wang team up with familiar faces against familiar foes. Can Jack save the day. If so how? It's all in the reflexes.

A sequel to Big Trouble in Little China? Hell yeah! It's a book? Hmm. And it has pictures. Yeah!

Every 80s kid has probably seen the movie and has some fond, cheesy memories of it. It was tried to get this nostalgic feeling here but for me it didn't work 100%. We have recurring characters and themes and with Putin we currently again have a connection to "evil russia". But this just feels not right. For me at last. It reads like a better fanfiction but nothing more. The same feeling I had with Eoin Colfer trying his hand on the Hitchhiker's Guide. It was nice to see the characters again but you are left with a feeling that it was not neccessary. The writing style was okay and I really like the pictures but I honestly would not recommend it to my friends. Maybe if they really make a movie out of this, we could watch it together and have a laugh. It is a nice "in the middle" novel. Not too bad but not really great either,
But if the author tries his hand on an original UP I would love to give that a chance.

I thought I wanted a sequel to Big Trouble in Little China. Unfortunately, this isn't it.

This is a meandering, unfunny, unexciting book that doesn't even have the decency to have an illustration every chapter. It also does not live up to the promise of "Illustrated Novel". There is an illustration on page 14, just before the story begins, and the next is in the middle of Chapter 4, on page 48! I'd expect an illustration for each chapter, normally, at least.

I'm very disappointed. I only watched the film for the first time last year and had a good time, but I'm not sure a book from Jack's rambling point of view does it justice.
