Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this book. The characters felt extremely childish even though they were supposed to be teenagers. There were also many sexual references, which did not combine very well with the childish vibe of the characters.
I appreciate the representation of deafness, I just hoped it were present in a better developed book.

Entertaining summer read for YA"s! What could be more escapist fare than a story about a teen going to Mexico to recover from a broken heart when a crush rejects him, only to find a crush on the daughter of a gangster? This book is a great summer take along to the beach, park, vacation or backyard. It's a quick, fun story sure to grab and hold attention!

A summer vacation turned out meeting dangerous people.

I love the cover and the synopsis is refreshing and diverse. It actually reminds me of Colleen Hoover’s Maybe Someday because of the deaf character but turned out different. Way different.Totally different. And I was very curious how this story will turn.

What I noticed is that in table of content, it is in mix English and Spanish numbers and chapter title. Luckily, I’m very much familiar with Spanish numbers and how to pronounce it but not with the each chapter titles.

Colton, in his last day in junior year and decided to confess his love to Miranda. He wrote a letter to confess his love (and how he describe Miranda is so funny!), however, Miranda did not only rejects him before he even confessed but shock him about her gender preference and that surely is a heartbreaking! 💔 But suddenly Miranda changes her heart when Colton is on her way to airport.

Alex is deaf and a DJ. She met Colton at a bar thru Sofi and Martin. She contacted Colton because she needs help. She wants to enter a DJ Contest but she’s not qualified. Her father forced Colton to help her win the DJ contest but it’s already rigged.

At first, I was glad to read Spanish conversation and words. However, I couldn’t keep up. It made me confused on what I’m reading.

I thought I’ll enjoy this one but I don’t. The pace was slow and the story keeps on pointing out how dangerous in Mexico. I’m not aware of how dangerous Mexico is. I haven’t out of the country and it makes me think twice if it is really dangerous in Mexico.

I have to stop reading this because I lost my interest. The plot is okay but suddenly I couldn’t connect with the characters and was very confused with Spanish conversations. But the story got my interest on learning Spanish.

What makes drown to read Summerlypse is because of Alex. I think she is one of very interesting characters that makes want to know more about her compare to Colton. So far, it is a good reading, plot is well-written. It just that it may not my cup of tea but still thank you for the chance given to me to read Summerlypse.

Colton likes Miranda, but she confides in him that she likes cheerleader Chloe before he has a chance to tell her how he feels.

To get away, Colton leaves town with his best friend Martin to go stay with Martin's grandma and meets Alex, a DJ who is deaf and upon meeting he mistakes for a boy, in a Mexican town.
There is a mystery around Sofi and her bodyguards as well as Alex needing a virtual stranger's help in the form of Colton.
Alex was in a horrific incident due to her dad's high powered business career, in which the bad guys killed her mum and left her deaf, she has a plan to restore her hearing with a special implant but she needs to raise the cash by winning a DJ contest first.
Colton gets taken to a secret meeting and comes face to face with Alex's dad whom forces him to help his daughter and offers a shocked Colton a gun, Car and phone on loan to enable him to help his daughter get treatment.

The book flowed really well and had some great numerous points made. I also enjoyed the Spanish words which were in the book as it made it more real to the setting being Mexico, they didn't just speak only English throughout. The relationships and emotions where truly believable and empathetic towards the situation they have found themselves in.

This book was kindly sent to me for review by the publishers.
