Loved the first book and really loved the concept of this third novel. I found Dell just SO compelling as a character, and i felt for him several times.

Portia Chadwick longs for a life of adventure. When a dangerous moneylender kidnaps her sister, she dares to seek help from a man known only as Nightshade. Soon she finds herself charging headfirst into his world of intrigue and danger—and unexpected passion.
Dell Turner grew up in London’s back alleys and gin lanes. Vowing to escape his low beginnings, he hires himself out to society’s elite. When he accepts a job from a beautiful debutante, he doesn’t anticipate her relentless determination to join his mad occupation…or her unnerving ability to inspire emotions he thought long buried. She’s as dangerous to him as his world is to her, and yet Dell can’t bring himself to turn Portia away—even if it means risking her life.
This was a decent book. I hadn’t read the other two books, but I don’t think it was necessary in order to enjoy this one. It was definitely an opposites attract within a kidnapping caper. It was a quick read with a satisfying ending. I really liked Dell’s character and I enjoyed watching Portia’s character grow as the story progressed. I recommend.

I really had trouble getting into the book initially and getting caught up in the emotions of the characters. The storyline was good, but it just didn’t stand out in my mind amongst other books in the genre. The blurb was great, but overall the book just fell flat for me.

Portia Chadwick is returning from yet another social event, when her sister, Lily, is snatched and spirited away. Portia’s guardian, Aunt Angelique, immediately sets off to contact a mysterious man, known as “Nightshade,” to solicit his services. Nightshade is a problem solver, and if you can afford his fee, he will find missing items, persons, and discover secrets. Lily is actually returned home hours later, unharmed, but Portia is not satisfied because she doesn’t know all the reasons behind the perplexing kidnapping.

Portia is very young, only nineteen, yet she has a self confidence beyond her years. She is also brash, nosy, impulsive, and impatient. Her longing for excitement takes her back to Nightshade, where she insists on working with him to solve the mystery of Lily’s abduction. This actually leads to another kidnapping, and Nightshade finds that he can actually use Portia’s help on this case.

Nightshade, who is really Dell Turner, is the orphaned son of an actress, who has supported himself since he was only eight years old. He learned to mimic accents and to impersonate people of different social classes, and to become a master of disguise. He has also learned to fight and he knows all the backstreets of London. He’s a confident, quiet man, who’s sure of his path in life – until Portia rocks his world.

Portia is beautiful and maddening, and affects him like no woman ever has. Though Dell knows there is absolutely no possible future for them, when Portia admits that she wants him, as well, they indulge their passion as they work on the case. When Portia is injured, Dell abruptly ends their affair and their working together.

I admit that I found Portia quite maddening at first – she came off as pushy and overly inquisitive. Yet, there was also something very appealing about her willingness to go all out to break away from the social life that she found stifling. Dell was a little harder to know, though he clearly thought he was being noble by removing himself from Portia’s life. I love Dell’s final gesture, which was so out of character for the man he appeared to be previously. LORD OF LIES is an enjoyable, steamy read which has unique characters and a delightful and satisfying conclusion for this seemingly mismatched couple.

The 3rd book in the series was just as great as the other two!! We've basically covered this story 3 times, but Sandas keeps it fresh with every new addition. I loved learning who Nighshade was and how he ended up helping Portia's family.

The chemistry between Dell and Portia was read hot and their bantering had me laughing out loud. I'm sorry to see this series end, as it has been one of my favorites!

I'm excited to see what Sandas comes up with next!

This is a unique series with three sisters. In the first three books, each sister has an intertwining story giving unique perspectives to the same time span. So having read The Untouchable Earl #2 I found this book extremely interesting from Portia's viewpoint. The whole series to date is handled very well.

Dell Turner fascinates me. Everything about him is unique and refreshing. He isn't a typical main male character and this adds to his mysteriousness causing this reader to fall for him. Also, his rough edges and intriguing personality add much needed depth to the plot. I do like that he is from the other side of the tracks making his current lifestyle admirable.

Portia really cracks me up and her character adds flavor to this book. There are times I want to laugh at how her mind thinks and how Dell reacts to her but I really love her frankness and how intelligent she is. I wish more women were as determined and free thinking as she is.

Portia's sisters are prominent in this book and seeing their reactions from Portia's eyes is fun and interesting. Also seeing their personalities without being in their head like the other books it quite amazing.

I give this 4 STARS for being fast paced and unique.

The hero's job was a fantastic idea. It was definitely catching reading about his aliases, I was as charmed as the heroine when she spied him in the process of changing his costumes. Very sensual, too.

The story is nice, I liked the protagonists; Dell, the hero, and his silences were great, Portia, the heroine is stubborn, witty and I liked her too, I was very much entertained by her stubbornness in wanting to help Dell with his investigations.

I mean, to be honest I liked most of the novel; overall is a lovely reading which I would happily suggest.

What I didn't particularly love though was the ending chapters. I would have preferred the reunion between them (after Dell had decided to break their relationship) to be slightly more suffered, with a more "resented" Portia...I mean, the man "broke up" with her, instead of running after him at every turn, I would have wanted to see her, in love, yes, and possibly also longing to be with him, but proud too. I found the behaviour on the childish side to be honest, like "I want him, I want him, I want him and I'm going to be capricious about it."

That said, I'm a fan of the series, especially because, the first one, Luck Is No Lady was magnificent. The second unfortunately was a bit of a let down, and this one is more in the purgatory with good chances to be redeemed and go to paradise if it had avoided what I mentioned above. I'm sad now. But I'm really looking forward to adore the next one.

Great as a stand alone. I loved the story-line something about Dell Turner and Portia Chadwick that really exploded off the page. Great and quick read

Finally, the stubborn and determined Portia has her own story to tell! The three things that I absolutely adore and admire with Portia Chadwick: good in opening locks, best spy ever and she is very convincing with her disguises.

The elusive and talented Dell Turner, who can be anyone! From Nightshade, Mr. Black to Mr. Honeycutt... This guy has an impressive ability in disguising and make-up!

In so many ways, Portia and Dell are really compatible with one another! I love them both!

Master of disguise, Dell Turner can escape the notice of even his closest acquaintances, that is until Portia Chadwick seeks the help from the notorious man known as Nightshade to find her kidnapped sister.
Portia is a woman who speaks her mind and she doesn't mind letting Dell know she is smitten with him. She is determined to help in in his work and being that no disguise can trick her, she doesn't allow him to give her the slip.
I loved this book! This was not so much opposites attract, but rather each individual complimenting the others strength perfectly. I don't know which character I loved more, Portia for being outspoken, honest and bold or Dell for his calm, decisiveness and secretive care for those he cares for.
Amy Sandas does it again!

The Fallen Ladies series has been such a great series find for me. I've really enjoyed all these books about 3 sisters, and going into Lord of Lies, I was very excited. This was for me the best of the bunch because it checked all the right notes!

Both Portia and Dell were fantastic characters, and the chemistry between them made the story even stronger. Portia was headstrong, mildly stubborn, and was ready to do anything for her loved ones. I loved her devotion, and her desire and aspirations to want to be more than just a social darling. Dell isn't the kind of hero you expect from a historical romance. Sure, he's very very rich, and his alias as the Nightshade is quite the popular figure in town, but he has no title to his name. He has no absolutely no problem with that though. Dell was my favorite type of HR, stoic, broody, but who began to slowly and subtly show his emotions around Portia.

Their romance was terrific. The pages sizzled with their chemistry from the very beginning, but their romance only progressed slowly and realistically. Dell initially sees Portia as a nuisance, one that he can't stop thinking about. Soon enough she convinces him on going on adventures together to solve mysteries, and what fun it was. Like I said, Dell wasn't exactly a man with words, he still somehow managed to make me swoon. There was a lot of passion between Portia and Dell, and though he tried hard to resist, he found himself incapable of not falling for her.

There's a common thread-line involving the sisters and the a man named Hale in this series, and we finally got to know more about Hale in this installment. His story was quite heartbreaking, and I really hope that we'll get a book for him because he so needs his own HEA even though he does seem to do villainous things occasionally.

If you're in the mood for a historical romance that's not only deliciously swoony, but also has a story line other than the romance, I highly recommend Lord of Lies!

A DARING MASQUERADE
Lord of Lies is the third entry in the Fallen Ladies series from Wisconsin author Amy Sandas. When her sister is kidnapped, beautiful debutante Portia Chadwick seeks help from the mysterious man known as Nightshade.

Dell Turner grew up on the streets of London and earns his living helping clients with impossible situations. His persona as Nightshade is only one of his many artful disguises, and no one has ever seen past the illusion. Much to his shock, Lady Portia has an uncanny ability to recognize him, no matter the clever makeup and acting ability. He knows there’s no future between a highborn lady and a man of low birth whose work often skirts the edges of legality. Nevertheless, Dell finds Portia’s bravery, honesty, intelligence and beauty an irresistible lure. He believes their association will be brief, and they will soon part ways without harm to either of them.

Portia is equally intrigued and fascinated by the aura of danger that surrounds Dell. When her sister returns, Portia convinces Dell to extend their contract and investigate further, for her gut instinct tells her all is not yet safe with her world. Dell has never worked with a client who insists on being a part of his investigation, but Portia quickly proves an asset. When their inquiries unveil a shocking development, Dell fears allowing Portia to assist him may lead to her death. Can he keep her in his life, knowing she’s endangered? And how can Portia return to the placid life of society soirees after falling in love with the dangerous Nightshade and his shadowy world?

The plot twists are intriguing, and the details of both upper-class London and its gritty underbelly are fascinating, but it is the riveting characters that drive this excellent historical romance. Both Dell and Portia are passionate, honorable and stubborn; they are also uniquely, unexpectedly perfect for each other.

I enjoyed this one but not as much as the first two. I do want to find out more about Hale. He seems a very interesting character

The story starts out with Portia Chadwick’s sister is kidnapped Lily Chadwick. Portia and with their great-aunt immediately go in search for the only man who could help them find Lily, the mysterious Nightshade. Dell Turner a.k.a. Nightshade grew up on the streets. He’s brilliant at disguises and Portia goes charging head first into his world of intrigue. Dell Turner grew up in London's back alleys and gin lanes, he’s made quite the name for himself and he hires himself out to society's elite. What he doesn’t expect is for the stunningly beautiful Lady Portia and her relentless determination to join his mad occupation. Dell tries to keep Portia safe and pushes her away, but she’s one stubborn independent woman who’s determined to have an adventure and finds she enjoys undercover work and all its intrigues. I loved this story with its twists and turns.
I voluntarily read the ARC copy from Net Galley and this is my honest opinion and review.

This book continues the story of three sisters whose lives are altered when their father dies and they discover a large debt is owed to a moneylender. While this could be read as a stand alone novel, it does continue the same plot as the first two books in the series, sometimes showing the same events from the main sister of the novel's point of view, and would probably be best enjoyed after reading the first two books in the series. This book is from the youngest sister Portia's point of view. I really enjoyed how the author used this book to give the motivation of the "villian" of the first books and gave him a chance to get at least partial redemption. I also liked that this book wrapped up most of the loose ends of the plot from the last book that had left me frustrated with the end of the last book. Further, I enjoyed Portia's pluckiness and Dell's cleverness and how well the two of them matched up together.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I loved this series. The 3 books in this series happen concurrently. Each one starts out with the kidnapping of one of the 3 Chadwick sisters, Lily. From there each book goes on to tell a different version of what happened the night of the kidnapping with each sister. This book is the story of Portia. What I liked about this book the most is the setting. It doesn't take place among the ton. The hero, Dell, is a master of disguise. Portia hires him to help find her sister, Lily. She personally gets involved with the investigation and with Dell. Their adventures go on from there. I felt the chemistry between these 2 right away and new they were meant to work together and be together. All in all, a great series.
