That was my first thought when I reached the end of the book. I couldn't believe it -- I've reached the End?! Who won -- Talon or The Order and Rogue Dragons? Or did anyone win? Who is left alive? Now what -- where do we go from here?

Legion is the book that brought me back to the Talon Saga. The previous book Soldier was so bad to me. I had given up on reading the series for over a year. It was checking out this book via Netgalley that made me consider coming back. It's a return to form that while not better than the first two books is leagues above the third dumpster fire. I love this series and am happy to see it getting better.

Legion is another book from the Talon series that I loved. I am so glad that I was able to get this book from NetGalley. I enjoyed this much! I can't wait for the next book in the series!

WHY DID I LISTEN TO LEGION BY JULIE KAGAWA?
Legion by Julie Kagawa is the fourth book in her Talon series — which is her series of dragon books. I very much enjoyed the first book. I feel like I thought the second and third books were alright too. Anyways, I kind of lost steam with reading these books. Yet, seeing Legion available on Hoopla sort of reignited that steam. I added it and instead of waiting and listening to the audiobooks in order of adding, I made this one a priority. After all, I am SO close to finishing this series!

WHAT’S THE STORY HERE?
Legion picks up right after Soldier. If you haven’t read Soldier, you should probably stop reading this review if you don’t want to be spoiled. Okay, so Dante is still with the shady Talon organization. Ember is hanging out with the rogues – including Riley. Also, she’s with ex-St. George soldier Garrett. Garrett was about to die but then he received a transfusion of dragon blood, so he’s basically okay now. Unfortunately for everyone not in Talon, things are about to come to a head. Talon is about to bring their “legion” to the door of the rogues. You see, they have generated this army of mindless hatchlings and SO MANY of them. Also there’s this big secret about Ember that is revealed. Plus the Elder Wyrm continues to be a total asshole. And that’s really the quickest I can sum this up.

HOW DID I LIKE LEGION?
So, of the books in the Talon series, this one was not my favorite. I mean, I liked that there’s a TON of action. In addition, we got to see what Talon’s intentions were with all those hatchlings. I didn’t feel as though there was as much romance with this book. That’s fine, not every book needs it. However, that was kind of one of the original interesting things that I read this series for. I also did not feel as though there was any big resolution or that the plot moved forward in a significant way. Actually, I am at the point where I am probably just going to give up on this series as I have no obligation to finish it and many other competing books for my attention.

HOW’S THE NARRATION?
So, this is the first of the series that I have listened to via audiobook. AND I LIKED IT. I mean, there are four different narrators – including old favorite MacLeod Andrews. For real, I just love his narration and am always pleased when a book I want to read is narrated by him. The full group of narrators are MacLeod Andrews, Caitlin Davies, Chris Patton, and Tristan Morris. Each narrator does a decent job and takes on a specific character and narrates all of their point of view chapters. Overall, audiobook is decent and again, I have zero things to complain about with the audio of Legion.

It's weird how much I've come to like this series, considering I wasn't a big fan of the first book.

There's so much I want to say, but I'm going to be vague for now, since I don't want to spoil anything. It is a must read, though.

I think I'll start with St. George. They've changed a lot as an organization (in my opinion), and I wish we had chapters narrated by someone in St. George. It didn't really have a place in this novel, unfortunately, but with how the last book ended, it would have been really interesting to see their perspective.

And Talon! I can't say I'm surprised, because I'm not, but at least it's finally said why they want Ember back so much. I kind of wondered it myself in the previous books, so at least they finally say it outright. I wonder if that will change in the next book at all.

I also want more with both Mist and with Jade and the Eastern Dragons. Will we see the Eastern dragons in the next book? And are there other groups of dragons out there? I doubt it, because I feel like they would have seen them in this book, but still.

I have no idea how our band of Rogues (and their allies) will go up against Talon, but I hope that they'll win. I have the feeling that not everyone will make it out alive, and there are a few characters I really love...and I hope it's not one of them. It would be really heartbreaking, and we've had enough of that in this book.

My Rating: 4 stars. This series keeps getting better, and this is my favorite one so far, I think. It's going to be a long wait for the next book.

I received this novel from Netgalley via the publisher for an honest review.

Unfortunately, I did not finish this novel. I got more than half way through the novel, however, I just lost interest. I did not care what was going on with the characters, I was not feeling interested any longer, I just lost interest! I feel like these novels were published too far apart and it begins to make me feel like I do not know or understand what's going on any longer. When I read the first three novels I thought that the books were going to be a trilogy, until I got about half way through the third novel and realized these were NOT being wrapped up. I was initially really excited for this fourth novel, but then I got started and half way through I just lost interest. It became one of those novels that was a chore to read and I just have no desire to keep attempting to read something I am genuinely not enjoying.

This novel does pick up right where the third left off so maybe if you have not picked up these novels yet I would recommend reading them all in a row to be able to better understand the story and timeline. Unfortunately, this was just not for me.

Book Review- Legion by Julie Kagawa

Ember is on the run with Garrett and Riley. Garrett has been gravely injured after battling and winning against the Patriarch of the Order. They have to go underground. Riley knows something big is coming and they will be blamed for all happening. Talon is getting ready to strike. A plan is being implemented to bring Ember back. Her brother Dante has plans to inherit the power of Talon.
Talon is up to something and Ember and Riley need to find out what. What they find shocks them. Dante makes things impossible for them. He wants Ember to return to Talon. She is forced to do it to save Garrett and Riley. However nothing goes as planned. They all find themselves back at Talon. Garrett and Riley are locked up together. Talon wants to break them to gain information. They are separated from Ember. Talon has special plans for her.
They are rescued by a surprise ally. In the process they learn Talon’s biggest plans. They are shocking. They have to figure out a way to stop Talon, even if they have to join with the order to do.
This is the newest addition to the series and a great read. The author throws some mind blowing things at the reader. The battles are fast paced and full of action. There are a lot of twists and turns. Ember has to make tough decisions. Then she is a major target for Talon. The reason why is shocking. Dante is in the thick of things but he has no idea to some parts to the ultimate plan behind Talon’s invasion. The intrigue is threaded throughout the plot. Past characters make an appearance. I loved how some of them were working together to fight a common enemy.
The plot is fast moving. Riley, Garrett and Ember are constantly finding themselves in trouble or surprised by shocking revelations. They always have to fight their way out.
I feel bad for Ember. She loves Dante but he has been brainwashed into thinking controlling Talon is what he needs to do no matter the cost. She has to come to the realization that she can’t save him.
This book leaves off after they defeat Talon in a major battle. The war has started but more will be coming. It will be interesting to see where the author takes it from here. Great read. I give it a 4 out of 5.

Ember knows she can pretend she is human, but she shouldn’t be able to fall in love. When she believes she has fallen in love with a former dragonslayer, she begins to question everything she has been taught. What does she really know about humans? What is true about rogue dragons? What is she capable of achieving? As she fights alongside the rogue dragon Riley, Ember must also face her twin brother Dante.

Legion is the fourth book in the Talon series and the story is far from over. Kagawa takes Ember into even darker aspects of Talon and readers will wonder who will make it out alive. The story picks up quickly and there isn’t much review, so for readers who like to pick up random books, you may be lost. Yet those who have been following the exploits of these dragons for the last few years, it will be a welcome installment to a much-loved tale. Legion is a great read, but be ready for the fifth book in the future.

Dragon hatchling Ember Hill was never prepared to find love at all--dragons do not suffer human emotions--let alone the love of a human and a former dragonslayer, at that. With ex-soldier Garret dying at her feet after sacrificing his freedom and his life to expose the deepest of betrayals, Ember knows only that nothing she was taught by dragon organization Talon is true. About humans, about rogue dragons, about herself and what she's capable of doing and feeling.

In the face of great loss, Ember vows to stand with rogue dragon Riley against the dragon-slaying Order of St. George and her own twin brother Dante--the heir apparent to all of Talon, and the boy who will soon unleash the greatest threat and terror dragonkind has ever known.

Talon is poised to take over the world, and the abominations they have created will soon take to the skies, darkening the world with the promise of blood and death to those who refuse to yield.

Diabolical events unfold!

Dragon twins Dante and Ember are each seeking freedom in their own ways.
But shall the truth set them free?
Unfortunately each has a different truth and a different moral compass as to what they are willing to do for that freedom.
The wrym leader is a fright. Her plans far reaching and devastating.
A fight is looming between Talon and the order of st George, yet are they not both pawns in the games the Elder Wrym, CEO of the Talon is playing? Dante is now the Elder's right-hand man. But 'the weight of her gaze [is] suffocating.' The Elder truly is terrifying.
Dante never feels as important as Ember and once again he's proved right. There is one piece of the Elder's plan missing. The Elder gives Dante an order, ' “Ember Hill must be retrieved." '
But even Dante does not know the depths of the Elder's play. A move that will ratchet the situation up to a whole new threat level.
The renegades and St George cohorts are under threat.
The legion of mindless dragons, pawns in the Elder's plans are waiting in the wings, to be deployed in an all out strike against Talon's enemies.
Unexpected turns, betrayal and loss, dog the pages
Soldier Garrett seems to be so much more--difficult I know. The accommodations that Riley makes are staggering given their initial measure of each other.
Riley is a softie underneath all that hardness, again a dragon searching for his own truth. Ember is so much part of these two that it hurts.
The renegades find an unexpected ally. However the future of all is dimmed as this powerful phase of events unfolds.
Another triumphant addition to the series, with more twists and turns than imagined.

This is the fourth book in the Talon series. Ember, who’s half human/half dragon, has decided her love for the human soldier Garrett is stronger than her attraction to the rogue dragon Riley. Despite the romantic triangle, the three of them are working together to stop Talon, the dragon association that wants dominion over the world. Garrett has forsaken his former allegiance to the Order of St. George, a human military organization committed to killing all dragons. Ember still feels a bond with her twin brother Dante and is determined to talk to him and change his mind about Talon. He is entrenched in the organization and despite a previous betrayal, Ember wants to try to get through to him about the evil plans Talon has in store. Kagawa once again writes about threesomes just as she did in The Iron Fey series. She handles the triangle quite cleverly here, letting the characters work together despite one being rejected. The action is intense and the danger is palpable. Talon must be stopped and the small alliance of Ember, Garrett and Riley are humanity’s hope. In the effort to stop Talon, Ember learns more about herself and her brother and their importance to Talon. The characters are well-defined and very engaging. Garrett is swoon-worthy, demonstrating loyalty and bravery plus a good heart. Riley is devoted to protecting his hatchlings and is very mature about Ember’s relationship with the human. Wes, the human computer geek who saves them on many occasions, always adds comic relief. Dante is desperate to show he is worth as much as his twin and will do whatever it takes to prove himself. Ember is headstrong, brave and willing to let her human side rule her dragon. The romance between her and Garrett is touching and moving. There is nonstop action with Talon threatening and the threesome intent on saving the world. Another outstanding installment.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Teen for the opportunity to read and review the fourth book in the Talon Saga, Legion by Julie Kagawa! This is a perfect addition to the already popular Talon, Rogue and Soldier books with just as much action, intrigue, romance and suspense!

Each of the books in the Talon Saga are told from a different character's point of view. Talon is told in Ember's point of view, Rogue is in Riley's and Soldier is told in Garret's point of view. Legion brings back all of the main characters and their points of view, including Dante's. Dante is Ember's brother and has been loyal to the dragon rule all along because he believes he will be the dragon in power someday. At first, he wanted to help his sister succeed and only cared about pleasing their instructors and taking care of her. Then he had an epiphany about the position of power he could be in someday. This changed his entire perspective. The strong, dynamic characters are worth cheering for while the tension builds in this addition to the Talon saga. I didn't see the specific conflict coming and was shocked and appalled at the Elder Wyrm's use for Ember Hill! This book is as amazing as the rest of the series and is suspenseful and intriguing with new mysteries springing up and adding to the un-put-down-ability of the story. 5 stars for characters I love and the building anticipation! I am already anxious for the fifth book in this series and I plan on a complete re-read when the entire series is complete!

In Kagawa fashion, Legion keeps us on the edge of our seats with this next installment in the Talon series. Dragon against dragon against the Order with twists and turns on every page. You won't be able to put it down!

BOOK BLURB

The legions are about to be unleashed, and no human, rogue dragon or former dragon slayer can stand against the coming horde. Book 4 of 5 in The Talon Saga from New York Times bestselling author Julie Kagawa.

Dragon hatchling Ember Hill was never prepared to find love at all--dragons do not suffer human emotions--let alone the love of a human and a former dragon slayer, at that. With ex-soldier Garret dying at her feet after sacrificing his freedom and his life to expose the deepest of betrayals, Ember knows only that nothing she was taught by dragon organization Talon is true. My Thoughts

Missed out on reading third book so the setup for this 4th book remains a mystery for me, but nonetheless having read first two in the series can clearly see the characters development as well as the escalation toward the last pivotal plot reveal that will finalize the stories arc.

Apparently book 3 cemented certainty for Ember and Garrett that their falling in love was not so far fetched as they thought. The other side of the coin however was that Ember’s dragon just happened to be drawn to Riley, for a very good reason it turned out which was explored in more detail in this 4th book.

In book 4 the love triangle was also explored more fully, the action scenes were more violent, the character development was even more realized, the different plot arcs entwined more strongly and most important the truths about why Ember Hill has always been so important to the future of Talon are finally explained with some pertinent details.

(view spoiler)

Know for sure that as much as I anticipate what comes next for all the different factions this 4th book raised the stakes for Ember and company to a degree that am not entirely sure they can survive.

Ember Hill, dragon, is in a battle to survive. The order of St George is hot on her trail, her brother entrenched in Talon and Riley just trying to make the right decisions for his rogues.

Betrayal comes where you least expect it and I can assure you there were some really shocking twists that completely took my breath away.

LEGION was a really great read.

I have to admit I was a little unsettled with the love triangle that continued throughout SOLDIER, but now that Ember has made her choice, the meat of the story has positively turned more toward the battle to survive against the corruption in all the warring fractions...Talon, St. George, Rouge and the ever intriguing Eastern Dragons...which I can't wait to see where Kagawa heads with them.

LEGION quickly became one of those white knuckle, bury-eyed, can't put down, read into the wee-hours of the morning fantasy, action, adventures, we all can't wait to get our hands on!

I received this ARC copy of Legion from Harlequin Teen. This is my honest and voluntary review. Legion is set for publication April 25, 2017.
