Dragon hatchling Ember Hill was never prepared to find love at all--dragons do not suffer human emotions--let alone the love of a human and a former dragonslayer, at that. With ex-soldier Garret dying at her feet after sacrificing his freedom and his life to expose the deepest of betrayals, Ember knows only that nothing she was taught by dragon organization Talon is true. About humans, about rogue dragons, about herself and what she's capable of doing and feeling.

In the face of great loss, Ember vows to stand with rogue dragon Riley against the dragon-slaying Order of St. George and her own twin brother Dante--the heir apparent to all of Talon, and the boy who will soon unleash the greatest threat and terror dragonkind has ever known.

Legion is another strong entry to the series. Admittedly, I was worried after finishing Solider last year. There was a devastating cliffhanger. Kagawa does well balancing the action and overall plot tension between Talon, the Order of St. George and the general protection of the world with the other relationships of the narrative. There are significant changes to the love triangle between Ember/Riley/Garret which needed to happen.

The story calls for an interesting turn for all the characters and their fate leading into the final novel of the series. I remain curious to see how it will all end. Teens who enjoy urban fantasy (esp dragons) filled with action and a touch of romance definitely need to check out Legion as well as the others in the series.

Final rating: 4 out 5 stars

Another Julie Kagawa book that I could not put down.

Have really enjoyed ready the story of Ember, Garrett, Riley and Dante. The story is written so well that it is easy to believe in the characters and the world the author describes.

Wait for a rainy day, find a quiet corner and a warm blanket and immerse yourself in this book. You won't be disappointed.

WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Legion did not disappoint! This series is so cool, and so much fun! Julie Kagawa makes me feel like I am actually in the story with these characters. I am transported every time I pick up a book from this series...If only I could be a dragon...sigh...

This book has a lot of twists and turns, and I still don't know what's going to happen. I thought I knew what was going to happen, and Julie fooled me. The characters are so distinct and developed. I feel like she could eventually have a spin-off series...I KNOW I would buy it!

P.S. -- How about those gorgeous covers?!?!?!?!?!?!?

4 stars

This action packed book is the fourth installment in a series of five. If you haven’t read the others, you might want to start there. This review won’t contain any spoilers for the current book, but it may inadvertently reveal something about the previous books.

Told from the perspective of four different characters, Ember (a smart, fiery dragon), Garrett (a human former member of the Order of St. George), Riley (the leader of the rogue dragons), and Dante (Ember’s twin brother and member of Talon), this tale unfolds to reveal more intricate plotting on the part of Talon. The story is action packed, coming to quite an exciting conclusion that, once again, screams for the next book. I don’t want to give anything away, but the last bit of this book really flies by in a blur of action.

In this installment, both Ember and Garrett learn more about their pasts – things that are at once surprising, and yet make a perfect sense for their characters. Riley does not really develop too much in this book, but his character is already pretty well established. Wes, Riley’s human second in command, does not figure as prominently in this story as he has in the past, and I kind of missed him. I feel he could have made a bit more of an appearance. He is there, and he does play a major role in some of the happenings, he is just not as on the ground this time. Dante reveals new depths to his character, and it will be interesting to see where his story goes in the next book. A few other characters from the past make repeat appearances, to great effect, but I won’t give away their names or their connections. Suffice to say, they are great additions, and I can’t wait to see more of them.

I think the pacing in this book is good; it kept my attention throughout, really ramping up at the end as the story reached its zenith. What I really like about this series is its parallels to our world today. There are the rogue dragons (with whom the reader is most likely aligned), Talon (an evil organization bent on world domination), and The Order of St. George (tasked with destroying all dragons). The interplay between the three groups and the distrust that has built over time mirrors relations found in the real world. Ember and her group of friends are working throughout this book (and the others in the series) to help others understand that in order for peace, everyone must understand one another and not fall back on prejudice and hatred. There is room in the world for everyone, if only one is willing to look at the real picture – the real person (or dragon) – rather than stereotyping and believing the propaganda that swirls around groups that are different from the hegemony. Lots to ponder here – and a fun story to boot.

Thank you for the opportunity to read LEGION. I have been a long-time fan of Julie's and really wanted to love this series, but it has failed to click with me. I have not connected with any of the characters and the story feels like it's being dragged out longer than necessary. Again, thank for the ARC, but I won't be continuing with the series.

I received this ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest and voluntary review. I was in no way compensated for this review.

Julie Kagawa has been one of my most favorite authors ever since I picked up The Iron King, when I heard about her dragon series, I knew it was going to be epic and for the past four years now, it’s proven to be absolutely true! Legion continues the story that follows Ember, Riley, Garret, and Dante; dragons and dragon hunter all from different ends of the track. The looming sense of danger that’s been brewing pretty much since Rogue is finally coming to light, but since we still have one more book to go, we’re only just seeing the finishing line in sight!

So things pick up pretty much where we left off in Soldier and since I just finished that right before starting this one, I was pumped and ready to go! Garret’s life was hanging in the balance when we last saw him after he defeated the Patriarch in a duel to prove his innocence. And since they’re in the middle of nowhere we’re talking no hospitals. And since this is Julie Kagawa we’re talking about here, I honestly didn’t know how things were going to turn out! She’s one of those amazingly awesome authors who delights in tormenting her readers. Lol. But as I was telling myself as I read, this series is far from over and this is Garret. Think things practically and you’ll know how things will turn out.

We start to see inklings of what Talon has planned for…everyone. I feel like this time, Dante gets a few more chapter time and even though some of that included flashbacks to a time when he and Ember were still kids or even going back to the very beginning of their time at playing human, we see things a bit differently through his perspective. I’d like to say it put his character into more defining light, but honestly, the boy still confuses me and worries me. I know I said last time his position was made clear, but I guess a part of me still hoped for better. Dante is almost a bit scary in this one, at least I thought he was in his ways of thinking.

Seeing Talon’s plans of course was just as frightening. What it really adds up to is knowing that Ember and her friends are in for one heck of a finale! We even get to know why Talon is so keen on getting Ember back in their clutches and let me tell you, I wasn’t prepared for that kind of scary! It’s twisted and insane and just so dark!! I mean man!! But yet, I can’t help but love it all the same!

Needless to say that Legion was full on incredibly awesome! The tension is so thick you could cut a knife through it! The pacing is spot on! We’re lead deeper and deeper into this story and more characters step up to join the cause in helping Riley and Ember defeat Talon. It’s going to take a lot of work and lot more manpower and dragon-power than these two can provide alone!

Onto the romance of the story, because it has to be mentioned. I’ve liked how subtle the romance is in the story. I mean it doesn’t encompass who Ember is or what she is setting out to do. And even then, it’s still so subtle there’s hardly any there at all. Because when you think of it, things are much too chaotic to be taking time out for a make out session! But it’s still there, in those little stolen moments between Ember and…someone. I won’t mention names, even though I think we all know who she’s going to choose, who she chose in fact in Soldier. But there’s that. It is finally settled and resolved in this one though. At least I am 99% sure! As I said before, with Julie, you never really know for sure until it’s all said and done! But I do like how things were left off in this area of things. I think this was the best resolution for everyone. We’ll see.

I can’t help but feel like there might be something BIG on the horizon with the final book. And I am not just talking about the big showdown with Talon, because since there is one more book left, we know things are far from over with all the enemies on all the fronts. There was something that happened in this one, pretty early on too. And the results that stemmed from it had my mind whirling at full speed wondering what it will mean. Sadly, it’s not addressed full on. But there are hints. Teeny, tiny little hints. And I paid attention to those, oh boy was I!! And now after finishing the book, I was perturbed by it not really being addressed. It’s possibly I saw something from nothing that’s not really there at all. Or it’s also possible that it won’t be addressed until the final book! Read the lines carefully, my friends, and see if you can see what I saw and determine if it means anything! That’s another thing I love about reading, developing all these crazy and sometimes, not so crazy, theories!

Legion was full on excitement!! The pages were rife with action, suspense, dire circumstances and toe curling events! It’s a read that will have you staying up way past bedtime determined to finish it because it is just that un-put-down-able! I had very little experience with dragons before Julie Kagawa, but ever since Talon, my heart has been won over by them! I am both ecstatic and sadden to read the final book next year, but it will definitely be a read to surpass all reads as every book I’ve read but Julie Kagawa has been pure magic and one amazing adventure!

I love this series; I keep thinking it's the last book, and then BOOM! there's another one. I loved it and can't wait for more.

One of my favorite series! I loved the first 3 books in this series and I believe it keeps getting better with this 4th installment. Action packed and never a dull moment; it's hard to put down. Waiting for book 5 is going to be difficult.

One of the best books in this series! The characters have grown and developed, the introduction of new twists and turns in characters we thought we knew and the movement forward in the love triangle make this a fantastic read. I love Julie Kagawa's novels and this series is no different. She has created a world where dragons and humans need to learn to survive... together.

Not my favorite of the series, but still not the worst. I loathe romantic triangles like a kid loathes veggies, but this book made the annoying triangle a little more bearable. Slightly.
Ember has to make grown up decisions now, and while she does make them, she is still quite the dumb ass. It has been a very long time since I have disliked a protagonist quite this much!

Ember and Riley rescued Garrett after he killed the leader of St George for his betrayal of working with Talon. They have to find a way to rescue all of Riley's hatchlings and expose Talon to the other dragon shifters for what they are. Ember is stunned to learn of her brother's experiments with the clones. She still thinks she can change his mind about Talon, but Talon is too ingrained in her. She, Riley, and Garrett are taken captive but manage to escape with the help of an unlikely Talon operative. They found plans that Talon was going to take out every single St George compound as well as all of Riley's safehouses.

Time is of the essence for Ember and her team to save as many people as possible from Talon, even if they do not want to be saved.

As always, loved it!!! I mean, really, DRAGONS! YES! I have enjoyed this series from the beginning, although the love triangle drives me batty at times. I was glad to see Ember finally step up and say what she feels so that one or the other can move on. I really enjoyed this book and dread the year long wait for the next book......

Received this ARC from Netgalley. This does not affect the review at all.

There was a twist in the plot (no spoilers) and the book was unputdownable. Overall the plot was interesting.

In order to review "Legion," I felt I had to read the earlier books in the series: "Talon," "Rogue" and "Soldier." This wasn't a difficult or unpleasant task!

The premise of the series is brilliant. It's almost like a reimagining of a vampire tale: the notion that the enemy lives among us - ancient, magical and brutal - and could destroy humanity at any moment. Coupled with an ancient, religious organisation (St. George) and an underground resistance, Kagawa has created a game with many players on the board.

I like Ember and Garret, plus I enjoy Riley and Wes. Dante, however, I can't get on with. I had a brief moment of pity for him in "Legion" but, in actual fact, I don't think his character can be sympathised with. That shouldn't be a problem because all good books need a despicable villain but I'm not sure that's the role Kagawa intended for him... at least, not until the end of this novel. Because he's a little unbelievable, I couldn't comprehend why Ember kept returning to him. That relationship, twins, was two dimensional as the series progressed.

Aside from this, it's a great YA series with enough twists to keep my interest piqued through the four novels so far. I look forward to finding out where Kagawa takes it next.
