Very seldom do I run across a book that I absolutely cannot finish for any number of reasons. First off, the book needed someone to proof read it. Incorrectly spelled words make my head ache. WERK - WERKED - WERKERS ... I looked this one up thinking 'maybe' it was a real word. Well, it is a real word but has nothing to do with WORK - WORKED - WORKERS.

A man is running to call the police when he finds the stripper's body in a pool of blood. As he is running, he happens to see the food tent and hollers for someone to make him a burger -- enough said on that!

The characters are cardboard. The author tried way too hard to speak and act like someone from the 1950's. The carnival acts / attractions were mostly okay ... I remember seeing one or two carnivals when I was a young child.

Each chapter is told by a different character, and the results are a lot of repetitious telling of the same story ... over and over again.

In my opinion, it was just not anything that I wanted to continue reading.

My thanks to the author / Black Opal Books / Netgalley for an Advanced Review Copy. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I couldn’t get through Death of a Kootch Show Girl. I tried, but in the end I put it aside. I admire the author for what he was trying to achieve, but I just didn’t like the book. Each chapter is narrated by a different character - told from their point of view complete with their individual speech patterns. That means there are some overlaps. The same event is described by different characters in different chapters. This takes some skill. While I initially was intrigued by the content based on the description, the more I read, the more I disliked the characters and the story. The mannerisms of the different characters also grated on my nerves as the story progressed. Normally I love mysteries and novels featuring carnivals, but Death of a Kootch Show Girl was far from appealing. Many will find its attitudes and descriptions offensive.
