Here I am, reading along, thinking how much I am loving this fabulous book in all of its sadness and grief, and especially the utterly devastated Jacks and all of the angst and suspicion and mystery and gloriousness this book is. When BOOM out of nowhere this book suddenly becomes a completely different animal and I'm shocked and it's brilliant and I loved every last moment of it!

I could gush for days but I won't. I will just tell you that this book kept me riveted. The characters were well written, I hurt with them, and was furious for them and wanted answers just like they did. The setting was divine. I could see the beauty that was everywhere and the descriptions made me put the location on my bucket list. The mystery was awesome, the back and forth in timeline and between characters in the story was perfection. I loved every page.

I highly recommend this fabulous book to anyone who loves a great thriller, perfectly written, with sympathetic characters and a divine setting. You won't be disappointed.

The Good Widow is a terrifically fun and engrossing read! The book grabbed me from the second I picked it up until I reached its highly satisfying conclusion. As I frequently state in my reviews, the thriller genre (particularly the unreliable narrator subgenre which thankfully this is not) is a bit overloaded these days – some are quite good, others are not good at all. Fortunately, The Good Widow is an outstanding addition to the group.

The story opens with a nameless couple driving the road to Hana in Hawaii. After the initial chapter, the story is told from the perspectives of several of the main characters. Early on, Jacqueline “Jacks” Morales learns that her husband James and a mysterious woman have died in a car accident in Hawaii. This news completely shocks Jacks because James had told her that he was on a business trip to Kansas. As the book progresses, Jacks seeks to unravel the mystery of why James was in Hawaii, who the mysterious woman was, and what led to his car accident. There are so many twists and turns as the story of their life together and numerous other secrets are revealed. Once I started reading the book, I didn’t want to put it down until I was finished with it.

The cover for the book is perfect – ominous, dark water which hides all manner of surprises underneath the surface. I highly recommend The Good Widow. Thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union for the opportunity to read this gem in exchange for an honest review.

I was thrilled to get an early copy of this novel! The story drew me in within the first few pages and I liked the alternating perspectives. That being said I felt it took a few twists that I didn't want and felt rushed in its last few chapters. However, I love the unpredictable shifts that make you cover your mouth and gasp and this book did just that! If you're a fan of this dynamic duo this book will definitely be your cup of tea!!! Their addition of suspense to their usual recipe of a novel is a great addition!

Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke nailed another novel together. It is very surprising that this was the first suspense book they have written. The complicated characters are even more complex as the story unfolds with many unpredictable twists throughout. The authors artfully pull you into the plot and never let you go until the last word. Having two different character telling the story doesn't always work, but for the book, I could not see it any other way. Not being able to predict what was about to happen always makes for a fabulous book! This is a must read for everyone.

Jacqueline “Jacks” Morales gets a surprise visit by two police officers at her home in California. They inform her that her husband, James, has died in Hawaii in a car crash. Adding to the mystery is an unknown woman who also died in the accident. Jacks is confused because James was supposed to be on a business trip to Kansas.

James and Jacks had been married for eight years. She never felt that their marriage was perfect but they seemed to get along. After his memorial, an unknown man named Nick shows up at her door. He was formerly engaged to Dylan, the woman from the accident. He is also searching for answers and wants to visit Hawaii to retrace their loved ones last few days. She agrees to join him in an attempt to solve many of her questions. Together they solve some of these mysteries while unraveling some unsettling truths.

The Good Widow is mixture of both drama and suspense. The story with its twists and tension makes it hard to put down. I look forward to more works from the team of Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke.

Thank you NetGalley, Lake Union, Lisa and Liz, for allowing me to read and review this book.

I am so glad I didn't have to wait until June to read this book, I seriously don't know if I could have waited that long. This book is so many things, all nicely wrapped up in a pretty little book. I felt going in, that this book was going to be a total thriller from the start, it has that total domestic thriller vibe to it. However, it is so much more. You see "Jacks" develop into a strong female character throughout the story. You get to witness her at her weakest, and at her strongest, and it goes to show you, that you never really know how strong you are, until you have no other choice. I absolutely loved "Jacks" and the way this book ended was absolute perfection. I don't want to go into a lot of detail, because there is so much to this book, and I really do not want to spoil it for anyone. But take my advice, make sure you have plenty of reading time, because this one will suck you in!

This was my first read of Liz and Lisa, and honestly, it will not be my last.

Jacks and James Morales seem to have a typical marriage, although the chinks in the armor keeping them together are getting bigger...when 2 policeman show up at Jacks' door to tell her husband was killed in a car accident Jacks is hit with a double blow...the sudden death of her husband coupled with the fact that he had told her he was going to Kansas. Then Nick shows up at her door with even more staggering news; James did not die alone....leading Jacks to question every moment of their lives together. Jacks agrees to go with Nick to Hawaii to see if they can sort out what really happened there, opening up wounds and fears. This book takes us on a twisty journey, leaving the reader stunned when the truth comes to light. Another great psychological suspense, with a new voice (voices, actually)!

WOW. Wow, wow, wow.

This is without a doubt one of my favorite books of the year. It is Neglect-Your-Children good. The suspense, the twists...I was trying to figure out the ending the entire time and I just did NOT see it coming. To read it and "watch" it unfold...like I said- I have no idea what my kids were doing, I just had to finish this book. I devoured it and ignored my kids...that right there tells you how damn good this one is. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.

I have been a fan of Liz and Lisa's books from the beginning and this is their best one yet. A Must Read for 2017.

Wow! This seemed so straightforward and predictable -- until it wasn't. And then I couldn't catch my breath. A solid thriller with a storyline that will have you wondering if the people you love are who you think they are.

I have read all of Liz and Lisa's previous books and loved them all. This is their debut suspense novel and WOW is it fantastic. Clear your calendar before you open this book because you won't want to put it down until you read the last page.

Jacks and her husband have been married for 8 years - it's an ok marriage with what she thinks are normal problems that most people have. He travels as part of his job and is gone most of every week. Her life is pretty calm until the police show up at her door to tell her that her husband has died in a car accident in Hawaii. The problem is that he was supposed to be in Kansas and he was with another women when the accident occurred. The woman that he was with left behind her fiance- Nick - who was also stunned at what happened. To try to find out what happened in Hawaii, Jacks and Nick travel to Hawaii to trace the dead couples last days. To say that things are never what they seem is putting it mildly!

I don't want to say any more about the plot because I don't want to give anything away but I will tell you that you are in for one fantastic read and that the last 25 pages will provide you with an ending that I never saw coming. Fantastic book by two wonderful authors!

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book for a fair and honest review.
