I absolutely love science fiction and fantasy short stories, and this is one of the best collections I've encountered. They are an excellent way to draw older students into reading, as well. I loved all of these stories, especially "How to Survive a Fish Attack."

2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

Not one of the best anthologies I’ve read, but not one of the worst either. Some of the stories were interesting while I was reading, but most left my memory as soon as I finished the last line. I will point out that a couple of the better stories in this anthology were Spoiler: She Leaves Him by Jack Noble, The Heresy Machine by Gerald Warfield, and How to Survive a Fish Attack by Kato Thompson

I did feel like there was more speculative fiction and fantasy than sci-fi, which was a bummer for me, but I think for fantasy/urban fantasy readers this will be more up their ally.

Imaginative stories that stimulate the imagination and the emotions
The magazine Metaphorosis is doing a great job to support the genre of science fiction and fantasy, two of my favorite genres.
The content is short, vivid, imaginative stories that stimulate the imagination and the emotions. What I love most about these genres is that it allows you to connect with possible inner realities, which are connected with deep emotions and desires, with a part of our subconscious that emerges when stimulated by the figurative narrative, and sometimes you discover certain aspects of Yourself that you dared not bring to light.
My gratitude to the Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review the book

The collection of stories in Metaphorosis: Best of 2016 range from mundane to outrageous, there is a little bit of something for everyone. I enjoyed the different styles of writing very much. Many of the authors use a variety of structures that keep the book interesting.

This is a diverse and good quality collection of short stories featuring a variety of prose styles and narrative structures. There are a couple of really stand out stories that I really enjoyed, 'So, You're in an Alternate Universe' by Jeremy Packert Burke and 'How to Survive a Fish Attack' by Kato Thompson. The second of these was particularly innovative in terms of structure and theme and was a real pleasure. For me, however, the stories were collected in a strange order, with both the first and last offerings not to my taste and consequently, this left me with a feeling of indifference - very unfortunate.

A well-selected and beautifully written collection. Not much in the way of "hard" SF, the stories focus more on emotional characterisation, but very readable and of a high standard. Recommended.
