My new year's resolution ( in August) is to read and review all of the past books that I downloaded and never got to read or review - Might be a bit late but better late than never :-)

I enjoyed the book and read it in one sitting.
I love a good thriller/whodunit and this didn't disappoint.
The main character Lori was likeable but I did feel she jumped to conclusions quickly and without much to go on.
The murder of Lori's sister at the start of the story (not a spoiler as it's in the blurb) and the circumstances surrounding the discovery set the tone for the book.
I don't know if the reaction from Lori( or how quickly she recovered) when her story arc involving the uncle was disclosed was a true representation but I did like the end result in how it was finalised.
There are many tendrils to this story but unlike other books they do all resolve in the end so you're not left wondering what happened or why.

I enjoyed this book and would read this author again.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and especially the author for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review ( even if it is a few years late )

Lori and her sister, Jessie, have always been there for each other but when Jessie is killed how will Lori go on.
Her family are broken and she doesn’t know how to fix it. This was a lovely book and very emotive. Highly recommend

When I requested this book I didn’t know it involved fires and firefighters. My husband is a firefighter and sometimes I can’t read about this type of thing in a books because it causes me too much stress. If it’s a side note or not mentioned much, I’m okay with it. But I read enough to know it’s going to be too much for me. I appreciate the chance to review this title, but I have to dnf it.

The synopsis was quite intriguing, but I didn't anticipate I'd enjoy the book so much. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was dark and twisted in many ways, but I was running on anxiety for more than half the book, yet I couldn't put it down.

It's not perfect book and the main problems I have with the story were some reactions from the characters, the tendency of the main character (for the life of me I can never remember her name) to come to conclusions very fast about many people ant at the same time to share her doubts with other characters she didn't really trust. That didn't make sense to me.

Still, it was a thrill reading this story, but I feel like going for something soft for my next read. This one really got to me.

Brilliantly written & easy to read. Pulls at the heart strings for this family & what emotions there must be.
Another winner!

Jessie's death opens a Pandora's box of secrets for Lori. She never knew certain things about her family but now, well it's all come tumbling out. This is more of a domestic thriller and it's a decent read.

After she's gone by Maggie James.
A very good read. Good story and some good characters. I liked the cover. This is my first Maggie James book I've read. I'm hoping to read more from this author. 4*.

After reading the first chapter of this book, i realised that i have already read it. I always enjoy a good thriller and although it didn't quite match up with some of the thrillers that i have read over the years, it was nonetheless very enjoyable. A well written book and hope to read more by this author in the near future.

After She’s Gone is the third book I’ve read by Maggie James so going into this I had an idea of her writing style. I made a point of not reading the blurb again to refresh my memory before I began reading. I often find this helps as I have no prior expectations when picking up a book to read.

This book is a psychological thriller of sorts. There is also a crime element, as well as a touch of domestic noir. Not necessarily a mish-mash as they all probably fall under a similar umbrella when it comes to describing the genre, but enough of a mix to keep the reader guessing…

And there’s the rub. I guessed, correctly, very early on. For no other reason except that I read so many of these books that usually I can figure it out fairly quickly. This didn’t bother me while I was reading though. There are plenty of things going on in After She’s Gone to keep the reader turning the pages.

As per usual, no plot dissection here. After She’s Gone is an interesting tale of family secrets and the damage that they can do. I think if you’re new to the genre, and want to get a feel for a psych thriller, then this is a good introduction.

My 5* review for the psychological thriller After She's Gone by Maggie James, which is one of the best books of this genre I have read in a while.

"Lori Golden’s family have had more than their fair share of troubles. But through it all, Lori and her sister, Jessie, have always supported each other. Then Jessie is killed. And Lori’s world turns upside down. Devastated, Lori struggles to cope with her loss, and to learn to live in a world without her bright, bubbly sister by her side. Around her, her already fractured family start to fall apart. And, as Lori and her mother try to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives, secrets long thought buried are coming painfully to light. Faced with the unthinkable, Lori is forced to ask herself how well she really knows those who are left behind."

This book has all the twists, turns, dead-ends, red herrings, shocks and surprises that I was hoping and looking for and although at times I thought I knew what was going on, as the whole family begins to unravel there are more secrets and lies to work your way through.

The book is well written and at 242 pages the pace kept going and building without losing its way in the middle as some thrillers do, and although some of the subject matter is slightly uncomfortable, it deals with the subject of arson and the death of a daughter is a very sympathetic manner.

Brilliant book and I am now going to search out more books by this new-to-me Author.

I read a lot of mysteries so this one was an easy guess for me. However, not everyone reads as many as I do, and some would find this still quite a mystery. I loved the prose and the characters were very well developed. I enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend.

This is the second of Maggie's books I have read, and like the first one I predicted what was going to happen, and who did it quite early on. saying that it was still an enjoyable book to read.

Disappointed that I guessed the killer very early on, although I didn't guess the motive. Still an enjoyable book, but not one that I'd go back and read again.

Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity of reading this entertaining book. The main character, Lori has to deal with a lot of trauma and problems from the start of the book, and that sets the mood of the book as well. The book is well written and recommended.

It isn't really not my cup of tea. I wasn't able to finish the book but I still give this 2 stars for the plot of the story.

Many thanks to NetGalley and publisher for advancing me a copy of “After She's Gone” by Maggie James in exchange for an honest review.

What a shit "detective" Lori turned out to be. I'm surprised she didn't blame the postman, the taxi driver or the neighbour for her sister's murder since she blamed each person to be the murderer because they were acting "suspicious." Give me a break! Let's see...Could it be Jake, her mother's boyfriend? Jake's son Sebastian? Her friend Aiden? Aiden's friend Damon? Thing is, it's so obvious who the killer was. There was nothing I liked about this novel, not the story or the characters. Talk about lacklustre. Definitely not a winner with me. Two stars is lucky as I was thinking of just one.

This book was absolutely riveting from the first page to the last line. I know that other readers would love this book! I would definitely recommend this to my friends, family, fellow readers and followers of my blog.

The story is not an uncommon one. A young girl found strangled. No apparent clues as to who she was meeting. Sixteen years old with no boyfriend and just girl friends the family is nonplussed as to what her secrets and her life was.

Lorie her elder sister devastated, thinking she should have seen the signs. Dana her mother not even beginning to comprehend what has happened and an absent father who doted on the dead daughter to the detriment of the living one. There is a partner and his son who adds complications and twists to an already rather complicated plot.

Unravel ling the mystery is slow as is expected because there are secrets that are not being told. Each one keeps them close to their chest, hoping that that secret is not relevant to Jessie's murder. A tragedy of most families in that they think that keeping it swept under the carpet, means that it will stay under the carpet. Not so in this case. Very relevant and would have aided a lot of people if it all came out sooner rather than later.

An interesting thriller/murder/psychological profile with a horrible twist at the end. Did not see it coming myself.

Goodreads and Amazon review up on 24/7/2017. Review on my blog mid November 2017. Also linked to my FB page.
