I’ve always enjoyed the Darkness series by Katie Reus. So of course I was pretty pumped to see there was another release. Then I found out it was a second chance romance and my brain began that gimmegimmegimme chant thing it does when I see something good. Holy smokes but I love a good second chance romance.
Ian McCabe is a half demon/half dragon hybrid and the brother of Bo from Hunted by Darkness and Rory from Into the Darkness. Fifty two years ago he met his soul mate when he was offered a chance in the fight ring with her domineering older brother. In Fiona’s fear for his safety she sneaks away hoping to find and beg him not to accept the fight. Instead Ian makes a deal with her, he’ll take on her brother, but if he survives she agrees to go out on a date with him. This leads to lots of secret meetings and Ian and Fiona realizing they are meant for each other. Plans are made, a future together is talked about, but ultimately Fiona’s family intervenes and tears them apart.
Fifty years later Ian is getting to know his family and making a life for himself. He isn’t alone any longer, but he still misses the woman who stole his heart and then left him to mate with another male. Then he finds out that Fiona lives right outside the Stavros territory where she runs a home for abused supernatural women. Thinking she is mated to another, he only intends to catch a glimpse of her and then leave her alone to her life. That is until he finds out that her family lied to him all those years ago and there was never another man in her life. Now all bets are off and he will do whatever it takes to make sure that they are never parted again.
Ian and Fiona are probably my favorite couple since Drake and Victoria. I loved them! The jumps in time back and forth between their meeting and falling in love fifty years ago and them reconnecting present day helped me get to know them and their relationship. Five decades might have passed since they’ve seen each other, but their love for each other never died. But just when you think they are going to have some serious relationship talks and it may not go how Ian wants it to, shit hits the fan and they end up on an adventure into the hell realm with several of Ian’s allies. There are bad guys that I don’t think anyone will be surprised about, lots of Ian growling and busting out his dragon form, and some pretty cool Finn moments. Fiona and Ian’s rebonding moves forward at a fast pace as they are dealt a huge blow that might tear them apart regardless of their feelings.
Also, something happens at the end that I was not expecting. But I enjoyed immensely.
I was glad to see the introduction of another half demon brother, Javier, and the budding relationship between Gray and Ophelia. I’m thinking this means there is more to come in this series and that makes me a very happy reader.

“Then don’t expect me to live without you. You’re mine, Fiona. Have been from the moment I laid eyes on you, from the moment you tried to warn me off fighting your brother because you were worried I’d get hurt. Don’t you dare expect me to live a life without you! You go into the afterlife? So do I. Simple as that. If we have day left, I want to enjoy every second of it with you.”

4.5 stars
I fell in love with this world since the first book and 6 books later I have not regretted it one bit. This series is going from strength to strength with each book in it's own fascinating setting and couple.
This book was about Ian and his lost love Fiona. Ian is Bo's half brother from the previous books, just in case you didn't remember. We found out about his love in the previous book and even without the details you could feel his pain. In this book the lovers re-unite and fight family and supernatural causes to be together.
With multiple POVs this book covers a lot of ground. We have Finn's POV, Ophelia's, Ian's and Fiona's and a few others. And it works. They were well written making you feel included in all the chaos that ensues. We also have a few flashbacks that I oddly enjoyed. For me multiple POVs and flashback don't always work. They either cause the story to be messy making you lose track or they bore you. This was definitely not the case here.
I don't want to add spoilers for this as really think you should read it and fall in head first in the story. I loved both characters equally and their pairing was sweet and enduring. Though they went their separate ways neither forgot the other. We see how they met, why they broke up and what they go through to be together. And I have no complains for any of it. I loved Ian's endurance and steadfastness, his loyalty to Fiona. Fiona was no simpering female either. Willing to sacrifice everything for Ian's well being, working tirelessly to help others and could hold her own in battle.
"The woman lived inside him, was his mate."
"When she'd left him, it had been like cutting off a limb. And she had, essentially. Because Ian was a part of her, embedded in her skin, her soul."
"Dragon matings are for life. I... don't ever want you to regret mating with me. Even if every second that you are not mine is torture"
Will they finally be together and live happily ever after against all odds? Will their love let nothing stand in their way? Will they finally be together and live happily ever after against all odds? Will their love let nothing stand in their way? Katie Reus left me hanging until the end. And I loved it.

“Saved By Darkness” book six in Katie Reus’s Darkness series is just as fiery as the love that Ian McCabe had been cheated of, decades ago. Held prisoner and blackmailed into leaving Ian and to protect him decades ago, Fiona O’Riley finally breaks ties with a family that betrayed her and makes a life on the outskirts of the Stravos pack, unknown to Ian.
Half-demon half shifter, Ian McCabe will go to the end of the realm to keep Fiona safe and alive. And someone with an evil plan is killing humans to rule the world and he’ll do his duty of protecting the innocent along with the Stravos pack. Fiona only loved one and that is Ian. She’ll defy everything to be with him even if her days are numbered. She’ll protect Ian until her last breath and will stand against the evil that’s tearing up the world.
“Saved By Darkness” has so much action that keeps the readers on the edge of their seats as the good fight against the evil. Fiona and Ian make a formidable pair as they finally get together to fight against the very people that they share their own blood.
Katie Reus is one brilliant writer of paranormal and all her books are just fabulous reads. It’s always a pleasure as the previous characters make an appearance, as one clan, supporting each other, looking out for each other, within the boundaries of their clans, yet protecting the innocent.
Received an ARC from KR Press LLC via Netgalley for an honest review

There is so much Alpha goodness in this book! Our main couple is Ian who is half dragon, half demon and Fiona who is full blooded dragon. Then we get so many other players in this series with more half demons and wolf shifters. All of them working together to rescue a vampire and to stop the plans of dragons trying to kill of the human race.
I enjoyed the uniqueness of all these dominant males working together in the Hell realm to rescue one of their own and stop the plans of mad dragons. The imagery of the realm and the battle scenes would make a great movie. I learned about so many couples in this book that I want to read about and can't wait to see where the author will continue to take this series. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Outstanding fun - Katie Reus knows how to make a reader's heart speed up with a blend of actiony, steamy, heartwarming romance. Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book! I love paranormal books and this one had everything. This is part of a series that I haven't read before and is 5 or 6 books into the series but can be read as a stand alone. I wasn't lost in the slightest. I loved all the characters and the different types of shifters. I loved Ian and Fiona! They are perfect together. The story was great and I love second chances. I totally ate up this story and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series!.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy.

Saved by Darkness is the sixth title in Ms. Reus’ entertaining paranormal romance Darkness series. This traditional PNR features a wide variety of shifters, vampires, demigods, and demons, each with a happily ever after. While each book is a standalone romance, the characters and mythology have been developed over the course of the series, making it a richly detailed world, one which is best experienced from the start.
This time around the story focuses on half-demon, half-dragon shifter Ian, whom we met a couple books ago. He fell in love with dragon shifter Fiona over fifty years ago, but she walked away from him and mated another in order to protect him from her family. Yet it’s been discovered that she’s been running a preternatural shelter for abused paranormals at the edge of Finn Stavros’s territory, a place Ian has come to live in recent months. Now that Finn is reaching out to Fiona, can Ian give her up a second time?
Right from the start, I found myself fully submersed in Fiona and Ian’s story. First, I enjoyed the flashbacks to the couple’s initial meetings and early connections. Even though the reader knows the outcome of their past, it's lovely to see how they fell in love, while running parallel to their reunion. Second, I adore how heroic and strong Fiona and Ian are, both in their mutual pasts and in current day. They each have a formidable moral compass, coupled with the need to protect those they love. Yes, a bit of maiming and killing of enemies is sometimes necessary and definitely a-okay!
Fiona and Ian’s attraction and love runs deep. Demonstrated through the flashbacks to their initial meeting, we learn that they have a love-at-first sight relationship that developed quickly. This makes their reunion so much sweeter, knowing that they have experienced an unfulfilled love for over fifty years. The author does right by the pair by allowing them to express their feelings for one another early on in their reunion, rather than drag things out or keeping up pretenses. The impact is that I cheered even harder for the pair to make it through the trials they faced.
Even though the love story is the most prominent part of Saved by Darkness, the couple, along with Finn’s werewolf pack, must deal with a new threat uncovered while making connections with Fiona. Some unknown “big bads” have created a new drug that will kill humans. This sends a group, including Fiona and Ian, into a hell dimension to uncover the plot. Additionally, Fiona is attacked with the drug, which appears to be fatal, giving the group some urgency to uncover the ingredients and find a cure. While the action is exciting and allows the couple to experience some emotional stress, the culmination and conclusion felt a bit too easy. However, that didn’t impact my overall enjoyment of the book.
In the end, Saved by Darkness is one of, if not my favorite book of the series. The author has found her groove and creates exciting tales. The balance between romance and action is ideal, and I love that the characters continue to play important rolls in the books even after they get their HEAs. I look forward to more, especially with the strong hints of the next (?) paring!
B+

As always Ms. Reus pulls you into the story and the characters are brought to life. I laughed, I cheered, and I cried. Dragons, wolves, demons, and vampires. You can never go wrong reading one of Katie's books.
Ian is half demon half dragon. He lived in the Hell realm with a brother until another brother found them and brought them to Earth. Ian realizes the woman he was to mate with, lives right near him.. She was supposed to have been mated to another dragon according to her family. Now this was fifty some years ago since he saw her last. If she's single, then he plans to mate her and make her his.
Fiona has loved Ian for fifty some years. She helps abused shifters relocate. When she goes to a local bar, she sees Ian and can't believe it. Her feelings are just as strong as they were years ago. When her establishment is attacked, she is shot with a poison dart. They go to the Hell realm to rescue her friend and find out why humans are disappearing. They are shocked by who's behind it and she's told she only has a few days to live. Will Ian lose her after all these years or will he follow her into the afterlife?

Thanks KR Press, LLC and netgalley for this ARC.
Loved, Loved, Loved it! Katie Reus makes paranormal fantasy seem plausible and human. I love the world building, couples, and family dynamics plus the love story is unbeatable.

I've followed this series from the beginning and just love it's crazy mixture of dragons, shifters, demons and even vampires but the last couple of books have featured half demon brothers who really have been dragged through the mill! Ian is by no means an exception to that rule. Half dragon and half demon and all round scary dude! He's not one to cross, a born fighter and yet there was once someone who struck him dumb. Finding the female who should be his mate and then losing her set Ian on an even darker path but at least he connected with his half brothers.
Now though Fiona is back in Ian's life and all the dirty secrets are being revealed. Fiona was cruelly manipulated by those who should revere her but as far as Ian is concerned it's finally time to step up and stake his claim. Well that would be fine except for tiny details , like her brothers are still around to stir things up and then of course there's a master plan in motion that sees Ian and Fiona heading straight into a Hell dimension!
Fiona has a sweetness to her that's often lacking in paranormal heroines but that isn't to say she's weak, far from it but she has been betrayed and treated abysmally . Ian is alpha to his core and struggles to play nicely with others but that just adds to the fun! Their second chance at love gets all kinds of messed up though leaving the couple with a huge dilemma. Luckily Ian has reluctantly found allies and it's these interactions that often made me smile although if things are to end happily it's going to take a leap of faith.
Such a creative series with characters that just leap off the page. I won't go into the plot as it unravels at an interesting pace with a huge twist. There's enough action to keep this reader engaged but if honest it's the minutiae details that flesh it out as supporting characters become very real and I can't wait to see what the author dreams up next
This voluntary take is of an advance reader copy from Netgalley and these thought are my honest opinion

5 When not If Stars.
With finishing this book and loving every moment, minute, second, millisecond you get my drift here it is clear that I don’t read enough paranormal romance. This must be changed.
I am a fan of the Darkness series. It’s authentic, Ms. Reus brings all the characters to life that each individual be it the main characters, secondary characters or new characters shine with their own unique personality. In a world that has been built that has you craving for more.
*I*
Like big dragons and I cannot lie
You other readers can't deny that there is just something about dragon shifters we all love.
My mini song is over now.
Ian McCabe is a half dragon shifter/half demon. He isn’t civilized at that is what makes him such a freaking Beast of a Hero. Best. Hero. Ever! He is sweet, overprotective of those he loves. He is the ultimate alpha. He doesn’t ask he demands.
Fiona comes from a draconian clan where female dragons should be seen and not heard. She wants more in life and in New Orleans fate throws her in the path of Ian McCabe. I was very amused at their first encounter.
“Why do you wish to speak with me in a coat closet?” He felt awkward as he talked to her. She took a small step forward. “I know you’re supposed to fight my brother later, so I’m just warning you…he’s never lost. He’s very, very strong.” “Are you mated?” She blinked those startling blue eyes. “Did you hear what I said?” “Yes. Are you?”
Fiona helps other females in the supernatural community that are being abused. So that they never have to go through what she went through.
The flashbacks of past (52 years ago) are bittersweet of a true love nearly destroyed by a devious, callous, despicable family. But the present offers a second chance for them to mate. To live and have their happily ever after. This time they are willing to fight no matter what.
One thing I would like to know is what clan does Ian come from?
I hope this series never ends. I would love to see a book with Gray and Ophelia. As well as Ava and Javier. This is a truly phantasmagorical (my big word of the day) lol, series. A series that even if you are not a fan of paranormal romance can sway even the ones that are hardened against the genre.

Ian and Fiona's is a second chance romance.
Ian was a loner and fighter. Fiona was controlled and manipulated by her family. She was made to feel inferior because she was a woman but her brothers were esteemed and respected.
When Ian first met Fiona he knew there was something special about her and wanted to get to know her and spend time with her. Fiona was instantly attracted to Ian and felt a connection with him that she's never felt. Her family and brothers made it abundantly clear to Fiona she was to stay away from Ian or they would deal with him. The two began to meet in secret and during their short time together they realized they had found their soulmate. But Fiona's family found out and put a stop to it. And to save Ian Fiona had to break his heart and end things and in the process break hers as well.
Decades later the two meet again. Ian and Fiona's love and connection never died, even with the deceit and heartbreak each endured. Fiona and a dear friend of hers run a home for abused woman/paranormals. The home is in a secluded and remote area surrounded by forest. Ian is visiting his half brother and learns that they are checking up on a women who is on the outskirts of their territory. They want information on her and to find out if she's an enemy/foe or "safe". Of course Ian learns it's Fiona and will stop at nothing to get her back.
I loved the romance between these two. Both characters had depth as well great development/growth throughout the story. Fiona was a strong, feisty, independent woman but also caring and sweet. Ian was all alpha but sweet and totally dedicated to Fiona. The two had chemistry, their relationship was intense and emotional, with some real sweet and tender moments. The conflict/misunderstanding was dealt with fairly soon and as well as resolved in a satisfactory manner. We had some mystery/suspense thrown in with a kidnapping and a plot to kill the human race theme. Secondary characters were likable.
I found the writing, paranormal element and pacing to be very good. I felt immersed in the story and could visualize events as they unfolded. A very nice and enjoyable read.

Saved by Darkness. Thankfully this is not the final installment of the Darkness Series by Katie Reus. I think I will cry when this series is over. In my opinion this one was the best book so far. And no, I don’t just say that because it is the latest. It really was one of the best.
I love the dragon shifter books of the Darkness Series best. I don’t know why since it all started out with Wolf and Vampire, but the dragon shifters are the most interesting and – paired with a demon half – this book promised so much.
I wasn’t disappointed. Ian and Fiona were great. The characters were well developed and I got to know them better throughout the book. The despair we got from the flashbacks felt so real, I had to put down the book for a few minutes to get myself together again.
Overall the story surprised me. I mean there are only so much different versions of the same plot you can get in paranormal romance and yet the author managed to find yet another version that sucked me right in. I loved how the present and past problems of the main characters were interwoven with something far bigger than I would have thought in the beginning. Seriously I NEVER expected THAT twist to the story. And the outcome was great, even though I expected the solution to the final problem, since it seems to be the solution to many things in the Darkness Series. That doesn’t mean I didn’t like it, because I did. I loved every page of the book and the story. I can’t wait for the next book and hope that there will be more than one final book. I need more of them.
More of The Darkness Series.

Every time I pick up a book from this series I get instantly sucked back in and I don't mind a bit. I really enjoyed Ian and Fiona's story and I was elated at the hints at Ophelia's possible HEA. Not only do we get what we've come to expect from this series in intrigue, action, lusty romance and amazing secondary(once primary) characters. I cannot tell you how pumped I was to get a few peaks from some of my past favorite men's POV. This is a great addition to the series and I would highly recommend reading the others first bc the world building is fun and impressive.
