It was okay yet this book has something for everyone. Witches, vampire, even cute little animals. I will admit the characters are well written and grow through out the book

Dark, Witch & Creamy is the first book in the Bewitched by Chocolate series by H.Y. Hanna. Caitlyn is used to being the ugly duckling in her glamorous showbiz family, until the day she learns that she was adopted as an abandoned baby. Now, her search for answers takes her to the tiny English village of Tillyhenge where a man has been murdered by witchcraft - and where a mysterious shop selling enchanted chocolates is home to the "local witch". Soon Caitlyn finds herself fending off a toothless old vampire, rescuing an adorable kitten and meeting handsome aristocrat Lord James Fitzroy and discovering that she herself might have magical blood in her veins! When she's dragged into the murder investigation and realizes that dark magic is involved, Caitlyn is forced to choose. Can she embrace her witchy powers in time to solve the mystery and save those she loves?

Dark, Witch & Creamy is a fun story with mystery, self discovery, and a hint of possible romance. Caitlyn is a independent woman that has just lost her mother, only to discover that she is adopted. So, she follows the story of her beginning to discover who her birth family might be. I liked the way the secondary characters were introduced and built up though the story. I found the Widow Mags to be my favorite character, and despite my lack of magic, the one I related to most through the story. I liked that the encounters with James were varied, and that the idea of romance between the pair is written as a possibility, it in no way became the major point of the book. The book is mostly Caitlyn's self discovery, introduction of the towns people, and the murder mystery.

I really enjoyed the read, and my only issue with the book is more something in my headspace than anything that might bother other readers. She is independently wealthy, and I have to admit that I was occasionally distracted by the fact that Caitlyn and her cousin have no responsibilities and no care for what things cost, or even mentioning the payment for much of anything they do- however this is a work of fiction and I have to laugh at myself for having more trouble getting over the lack of monetary discretion than the amount of magic and odd happenings that make the book so entertaining.

Dark, Witch & Creamy is a wonderful start to a series, and I am glad that the next three books are available for my immediate enjoyment. I will be continuing this series happily.

Princess Fuzzypants here:
I was not too sure when I got this book whether I would like it or not. I am a cat so I am not fond of the overly cutesy. I do enjoy humour. I do enjoy quirky. But I want there to be some"meat on the bone" or to continue the chocolate theme, I want there to be a satisfying centre and not just sugary sweet.
I was pleasantly surprised to find I got right into the story and really liked the characters. Caitlyn has discovered that she was adopted by the distant mother who has perished recently in a car crash. She has few clues as to her true identity which she brings with her to the little Cotswold village. She thinks she is just a normal average woman but she soon discovers another side, a magical side. While she is learning more about herself, she becomes entangled in two murders, especially when the old woman with whom she is boarding becomes the primary suspect.
Smalll minds mixed with ignorant fears and fuelled by vicious gossip has turned the old woman into a pariah. When Caitlyn arrives, her life and her chocolate shop take a positive spin. The story is charming and enchanting and even has a decent mystery, not the least being, what is her connection to this woman and village. And what is going to happen to the cute black kitten she rescues and the hunky lord of the manor and his super friendly mastiff. We are going to have to wait for future stories to find out.
It's the first of a series and I am really looking forward to the next books.
I give it five purrs and two paws up.

I was given this ARC by NetGalley in return for an honest review.
What better way to spend a rainy, chilly Friday than sitting all snuggled up reading a cozy mystery with so much character? I have read two other cozy mystery series and was in need of a change. I’m glad I found this little gem.
The plot is a murder mystery sprinkled with some witchcraft and decadent, delicious chocolate creations that made my mouth water and had me searching for a snack every twenty minutes. It was easy enough to follow, but kept the reader’s interest until the last page. I must say, this was one of few mystery novels I have read that managed to keep the pacing steady and intriguing throughout the entire story.
The characters were a nice mix that added to the overall charm of the story. The main character came across as slightly slow at times and the romantic interest was just too perfect with a dash of brooding. Nevertheless, the story was still cute and wonderful to read.
The writing was light with the perfect amount of detail to paint a clear picture without getting lost in the nuances.
Overall, this was such a pleasure to read and I’m hoping I can find the second book in this series quickly. I would recommend this book to anyone, who loves chocolate, witchy stories and cozy mysteries.

After learning new information about her past, Caitlyn Le Fey sets out an adventure to find out more about her origins and especially her birth mother. She brushes off concerns by her cousin Pamona about going to the tiny English village of Tillyhenge, where witchcraft has been tied to a man has been recently murdered. Caitlyn is interested in this area because she has discovered, in papers left by her late mother, that she was found as a baby on the side of the road in this area, and subsequently adopted by her mother. Tillyhenge is a strange town. GPS cannot find it, and anyone looking for it must use a map and still might have difficulty locating it. As Caitlyn travels to the town, she almost misses it, and ends up retracing her steps to find Tillyhenge. Once there, she ends up staying in the home/shop of the town chocolatier, the “local witch”, known as Widow Mags, who makes better chocolate delicacies than Caitlyn or anyone else has ever tasted. From there, Caitlyn stumbles into the murder investigation headfirst.

This is an easy-to-read cozy mystery with paranormal aspects. My only problem with the book was the way the author left the reader hanging about what I think it a central part of the book/new series theme (I won’t go into this because of spoilers). Frankly, I was disappointed. I do not like it when an author fails to tie up loose ends at the end of a story, which can and usually does impact on whether I will read any subsequent books, if they exist or when they are published. I guess the author intends to carry this theme throughout the series. I am not sure I would call this a cliff hanger, though it definitely left me a dissatisfied reader. Obviously, based on the other reviews of the book I have read, I am in a minority about this. However, that aside, the story is a pretty good one. The cast of characters are well done and developed. The setting is likewise well done. In fact, the strange qualities of the town and many of the characters make it all more enjoyable. Having Caitlyn’s cousin Pamona in the book lends a lot. However, I was unsure about the vampire Victor. In this book, he provided nothing but a diversion that keep me wondering where this was going. Nevertheless, as a first book, this was an introduction of the characters who will continue throughout, and that was probably why Victor was in the story. I just wondered about this character and the role he would be playing as the series went on—he did not seem very adept at what I assume his role was supposed to be. This is a good paranormal cozy, for readers who enjoy both genres. The author has combined both in a pretty good way. I just felt dissatisfied about the ending. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

This was a quick, fun read, whizzing through it in a few hours and I admit that I was attracted to the book as it had a disclaimer that said it followed British spelling and usage (which I prefer)

Having just learnt that she is adopted, Caitlyn Le Fry wants to head to the little Cotswold village of 'Tillyhenge' to find answers of her heritage, hoping the rune like necklace that was found with her at birth might provide some clues. But slightly psychic cousin Pomano has a bad feeling about this trip and things get off to a chaotic start when an old man claiming to be her vampire uncle accosts her before she starts off.
Suspend belief for a little while, with a cast of fun characters and delicious descriptions of chocolate truffles that make your mouth water you could do worse then spend an afternoon following Caitlyn as she delves into village life, discovers some of her own magic powers and tries to help find the murderer of a local gamekeeper.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy to read and review.

After the death of her famous mother, Barbara La Fey, Caitlyn finds out that she was actually adopted. Raised as American, Caitlyn discovers she was actually found as an infant on the side of the road by Barbara during a trip to England. She was wearing a strange rune stone around her neck.
Deciding to search for clues to her true identify, she travels to the village of Tillyhenge against the misgivings of her British cousin, Pomona. While there she meets Bertha, her teenage daughter Evie, Old Widow Mags (rumored to be a witch) who runs the must the most delicious chocolate shop, the handsome Lord James Fitzroy and an odd old man claiming to be her vampire guardian. Strange visions and events happen as well as a murder or two and leave Caitlyn wondering if she too is a witch.
This is a very good, clean and light-hearted mystery. The paranormal element reminded me a little of the Bewitched television show which I enjoyed immensely. Nothing is too dark or sinister. This would be acceptable reading for a teen as there is no bad language or inappropriate scenes.
I can't wait to read book #2 to learn more about Caitlyn's birth mother and her true relationship to Mags, Bertha and Evie.

Disclosure: A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

3.5 Hearts Ok so this story is cute but a bit boring. I can honestly say that was no “Hahaha!” from this book for me. Again it is cute but just not what I expected.

While I did mostly like this story it is a bit slow and none of the characters have much of a connection. I enjoyed the Widow Mags. She is just such a witchy (pun intended) woman with such attitude but really is sweet in her heart of hearts. I like the cousin connection as well. Caitlyn is a bit odd but I liked her too but just didn’t think she has much connection with anyone except the widow and her cousin.

I find it hard to say what I liked about this story but I did. I would read another from this author and in this series.

What's not to love chocolate, romance and a murder mystery with some witchcraft thrown in to keep it fun. I can't wait for the next one since this one is definitely a fun quick read for anyone looking for a little chick lit mixed in with their paranormal genre.

Really enjoyable paranormal cozy mystery. You go into it thinking this is kind of silly, but it's well written and a fun read. There are times too when reading a book that the main character is so oblivious to what's happening that you are left frustrated. This isn't the case with this. You aren't screaming at the main character, wondering why they are so blind.

The character's are nicely imaged. I like Pomona, I kept imagining the best friend from the Disney movie, The Princess and the Frog.

I can't wait to read the second book.

Dark, Witch & Creamy by H. Y. Hanna was a delicious cozy mystery to read. Once I started reading it I hated to put it down.

Caitlyn is on her way to Tillyhenge in the Cotswolds to discover her roots. She has just recently found out that she was adopted and that her mother had found her abandoned along the side of the road in the Cotswolds. I liked Caitlyn because she is very independent and yet kind and warmhearted. She is surrounded by a cast of great secondary characters. I had absolutely no idea as to who the murderer was until the reveal. If you like cozy mysteries that include chocolate and a touch of the paranormal, you are going to enjoy reading this one.

I am new to this author and was very excited to read this book. Caitlyn recently found out she was adopted and decided to travel to the area where she had been found as an infant. Right from her arrival, she’s drawn into a murder that had happened not too long before she had arrived. She soon learns that witchcraft may be more real than she could have imagined, and she might be related to the local witch who is accused of the crime. Caitlyn feels that the woman can’t be involved and tries to clear her name. Can she solve the murder before it’s too late for her new friend…or is it new family member? I was blown away by how much fun this book was. I was in the mood for a light, well-written, fun, paranormal cozy mystery and this book fit that perfectly. And, by the end of the book, I really, really wanted chocolate. The descriptions were so well done, I felt like I could taste all the chocolatey goodness being talked about. If you are a fan of this genre, you will not go wrong by picking up this book. It was a true delight to read. I’ve already gotten the next one in the series, and I can’t wait to learn more about Caitlyn’s history, see what trouble she can get into next, and see more of her cousin and the other side characters. Highly recommend!
