An honest review thanks to NetGalley. This book was simple and something we might have read before, but the chemistry between the two main characters were amazing. The chemistry between the characters brought me into the story and made me not be able to put it down. If you are looking for a great romance this is the book for you!

College student Rose is smart at maths, but arrogant, insensitive and petulant. When she gives an unknown woman at work a dildo in the office secret Santa, she expects to be fired when she realises that her secret Santa recipient is the manager of the company.

Vivian takes the joke in better spirits than expected, and instead of firing Rose, Vivian puts her on probation. The probation takes into consideration the precarious financial situation of the organisation when Vivian decides to put Rose’s facility with numbers to better use.

Taking a trip to head office to investigate possible fraud, Vivian and Rose are thrown together in a tense and fragile situation for them both.

There was potential in this book. The concept of two very different women having to work together to solve a common problem is well worn and can have great results. The tension added by the two being so different is compounded when there is an attraction between them.

However, there were some fundamental flaws that makes this book unreadable. I admit that I only made it to the 20% mark. Rose behaves like a petulant, arrogant teenager rather than an adult working in the adult world. Giving a sex toy to a woman she doesn’t know in a very public work situation shows, at the very least, an enjoyment in the misfortune of others. Her other comments make me think she may have a personality disorder, or perhaps she’s just an arsehole. Whatever her problem is, I didn’t want to spend another second in her presence.

The major plot line of placing the manager of a company with that many employees beholden to someone so completely unprofessional, when she has to content with corporate fraud, is just unthinkable. This was jumping the shark on a grand scale.

I think the story needs work, and so does the main character. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

I don't usually drag books on for as long as I did this one. Frankly, I forced myself to at least give a chance to this book. This is the first lesbian novel I tried, and I wasn't impressed.

Rose appears to be totally scatterbrained, immature and sarcastic. While I love sarcasm, in context of this story, it didn't work. Even at the end of the book, I didn't have a solid grasp on what type of a person Vivian is. Also, the assumption that every woman around them is a lesbian is so unrealistic and inappropriate. On the other hand, the sex scenes were good, but not tempting enough for me.

This book is a lot lighter than anything I’ve read lately, and though it’s not to my usual taste, I didn’t dislike it. It was a welcome distraction from some of the heavier plots I’ve delved into lately. The sex was very well written, some of the best descriptions I’ve read, and there was just enough plot in between them to keep it going. The characters were ok, and it was a quick, easy read. I’d recommend it for a light-hearted read.

This storyline had so much potential and unfortunately it just didn't hit the mark. More than a few times i was left feeling underwhelmed. i didn't connect well with the characters and felt that their chemistry was lacking. I did enjoy some of the moment of sarcasm but thats about it. 2 stars.

You’re Fired is a snarky, sarcasm-laden romance between Rose, a devil-may-care math major turned temporary office worker, and Vivian, her straight-laced, by-the-book boss.

Sometimes, for whatever reasons, a character just won’t gel with a reader. And that’s what happened to me with Rose. It’s not a reflection on the writing, or the story, both of which I liked and enjoyed, it’s just that I wasn’t feeling the main character. It happens sometimes.

Rose Walsh is a woman born under a lucky star, or something. She’s beautiful, hot, and smart, and everything always turns up, well, roses for her. Give your office secret Santa a sex toy, and that secret Santa turns out to be your boss? You get promoted and an all-expenses-paid trip to New York. Want to get bumped up to first class without paying for it? Just flirt with the sexiest stewardess you can find. Need to find out about the embezzlement going on behind the scenes at your job? Literally only spend minutes looking and find all the answers. Want to get in your boss’s pants, even though she’s kind of involved with someone else? Go for it, there will be no repercussions for you at all, yay!

It was a little more complicated than that, Rose does have useful math skills, but her attitude and outlook, combined with Lady Luck giving her a seemingly free pass in life, didn’t make me her biggest fan for most of the book, which was unfortunate since You’re Fired is told from her perspective. I did really like Vivian though; she was Rose’s saving grace for me. As Rose and Vivian got closer, both physically and emotionally, Rose’s personality softened just enough that I began like her a bit by the end. Rose was also good for Vivian, showing a more adventurous side to the once cold-seeming woman.

Overall, You’re Fired was a quick, not too deep, sexy office romance. While I didn’t feel an affinity for the main character, the actually storyline wasn’t bad and I did find it to be pretty witty in some parts and liked the flippant, brazen writing style, so I’d probably read more books by this author.

Rose accidentally gave her boss a dildo for a Secret Santa exchange at the office..... after reading this little tidbit in the synopsis I just had to read it. Since it's a romance I overlooked the fact that there's no way Rose would work for a company (even though she hated every second) and not know who the president was. Anyway, Vivian was a much more likable character than Rose, in my opinion. He snarky attitude bordered on bitchiness most of the time, but I guess it worked for her. Their relationship was cute, but not very deep. Feelings and emotions were the last thing on either of their minds for most of the book. This is a nice easy read that I'm glad I was approved to review. I look forward to reading more from this author!!

I was really surprised that this was the authors first book. I was hoping she had written more, because I was a big fan of this book. Her writing style is really smooth and her dialogue witty, all big pluses for me!

I was curious how Rose could do something so cringeworthy to her boss and not get fired, and I think the author was successful in making it seem believable.

The relationship building up from no strings to an actual relationship was a little bumpy for me, hence the 4 stars not 5. I say that because it was pretty clear in Rose’s head that this was just for fun and she was totally ok with that until they all of a sudden they were considered more without really discussing it. I guess I expected some sort of internal dialogue of her feeling differently before it was just decided that they were in a relationship all of a sudden.

I really liked the character of Vivian, probably because I like uptight women who are totally different in bed...

Recommendation: I would tell others to buy it, not only to enjoy but to support a new author with real potential for this genre.

As some others reviews have pointed, this book is lacking something, maybe in the chemistry between the two main characters, maybe in some of the situations supposedly funny that they are not so much.  But at the end I consider that is a book worth reading, mostly because of the sex scenes

This is a complete mess of a book with two immature leads, immature dialogue, and an emphasis on over the top sex scenes rather than story. There is nothing even resembling chemistry between the two main characters, which always makes reading books like this a chore. However, this one goes above and beyond the cringe by making both these women, Rose and Vivian, just so damn unlikable as people. Rose is sarcastic to an off putting degree and shows so much of this entitlement personality that you just want to slap her with a little thing called reality. Vivian on the other hand is described as just a few years older than Rose, making her possibly the youngest president of a corporate branch ever but also one who seems to have a little problem of sleeping with her subordinates. Actually, on second thought maybe these two creeps do deserve each other.

If you think the word "dildo" is hilarious and the only thing better is having that word repeated no less than three hundred times, you're in luck because this book may actually appeal to you. I found nothing redeemable here and frankly, I expect much better stories and editing from Ylva Publishing.

Even though there ARE some flaws in the book, even though the character came out a bit immature, and the whole corporation thing wasn't exactly believable, I actually liked their chemistry. Vivian - Rose interaction was really hot, and the sex scenes were the best I've read so far in this year.
Because of that, I'll give it 4 stars. Honestly, had it not been for the great written erotic moments, the PG version of the book would've had less stars in the rating.

This book is a fun, enjoyable read or it can be a tough read. I think it depends on the mood of the reader.

Rose first starts off way to sarcastic for and somewhat through the book. However once she and Vivian arrive in NY and go to a bar I start to see Rose in a new way. The author starts to give Rose some depth and not just a one dimensional teenage boy who has no empathy.

I enjoyed the exchange between Vivian and Rose. Vivian is so uptight that Rose is a good bounce off for her. Yet as the other reviewers shared it can also be hard to 'believe' that these two would suddenly become an 'item' so quickly.

Vivian has this side of her that enjoys monogamy and a seriousness about her character yet she jumps into bed with Rose without any thought to her the other woman she has been sleeping with for a bit of time. That was hard for me to understand.

Anyway once I got past that I have to say it was an enjoyable, light read. That said the book can get on your nerves with Rose's sarcasm. If your not in the right frame of mind or mood rethink this book. If you are in a lighthearted mood you will probably find a lot of Roses remarks witty.

When poor college student Rose Walsh gives out an inappropriate gag gift at her office Christmas party, it backfires horribly. The gift’s recipient is her boss, the esteemed president of Gio Corp., Vivian Tracey, and the only thing that can save Rose now is her smarts.

Instead of firing her, Vivian blackmails math major Rose into joining her on a business trip to New York to investigate an embezzlement. A week out of state with a woman she can barely stand seems like the last thing Rose wants to do with her winter vacation. Only, maybe Vivian is not as bad as she seems. Maybe they can even become friends…or more.
