The author has written a very easy to read well informed book on archaeology for the amateur archeologist or arm chair archeologist. I spent a summer in high school digging in the dirt in Kampsville, Illinois and really enjoyed reading this book. And seeing the shout out for the Kampsville Program. Since the author's experience is mostly in the Middle East a lot of the book details digs in Israel and Egypt. There are chapters on Greece, Italy, Central America, South America and North America. He combines history with practical knowledge about what happens on a dig. I do wish there were actual photographs included in the book instead of just line drawings. Enjoy this arm chair travel through history

A very thorough study of the development of Archaeology as a science. It was educational and interesting, although a bit slow reading at times. I was impressed with the details and flow of information. Full Disclosure: I was allowed to read a copy of this book for free as a member of NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review. The opinions I have expressed are my own and I was not influenced to give a positive review.
