This was a great book that sometimes was easy to relate too (I myself was a rapevictim but never reported which I feel is such a shame now a days but back then it would only have hurted me more).
For people who has a hard time reading English books I think this would be easy since the author doesn't use any hard words and the novella is written in easy English so more people, especially the young ones, can read it I think.

Great great book. Very accurate portrayal of a person in this situation

Heartbreaking. The story of poor Mia, who is alone in a political family is nothing but heartbreaking. Everything that can be used will be used to benefit her father's own political agenda. His choices do nothing but hurt Mia, who in the end is the one who must live with the decision that he made for her.

I believe this book is a relatable one however, I do believe the subject matter may be a little confronting to those who have experienced similar circumstances. It is a very detailed novel, however, depending on the reader it could be a book that you connect with or can relate to, Might be someone you know who has gone through similar things. Perhaps a family member or a friend, associate or a workmate. Certainly an interesting book,

I was sent this novella in exchange for an honest review. I got this through Netgalley.
The first thing that drew me to this book was the fact that there was a disclaimer that there could be triggers in this story because it is a story about rape and a young girl begin attacked. It is not very often that I see that in a synopsis.
I have to, first, admit that I have never really read a book with a young girl main character being raped. I have read some stories with rape and sex trafficking, but something like this.
I also have never been raped so I don't know if the feelings were portrayed accurately. How I imagined a girl would feel is how this story was told.
Mia is a 16 year old girl who grew up privileged and wanted a night out. She went to a party drank and unfortunately was a victim of a physical and sexual assault. I felt like the way she was portrayed is probably very accurate to how a 16 year old girl would behave. She was scared and ashamed and also felt like she "had it coming" because of her outfit and makeup and the fact that she was drinking alone at a party.
I think that a lot of girls blame themselves when it comes to sexual assault and I felt like this story showed me that. I could vividly picture the story and parts I wished couldn't.
The theme in this story was done very well. I did give this story a 3 out of 5 stars. I didn't give it a higher rating because I wished it wasn't a novella. I know this is another novella, I just wished it was a complete novel. And I didn't like the pressure that Mia was put under because her father was a politician up for reelection. She didn't have a fair chance to make her own decisions and I hated that.
All in all. I would absolutely recommend this novella!

This is an accurate and intense account about the aftermath of sexual assault in a situation where the victim is blamed for what happens and has no support system to speak of. However, I do wish that the characters in this were a little more fleshed out. You only meet Mia as the assault takes place, and I feel like I would have better connected with her character if I got to know her a little bit before delving into the storyline. Also, the ending of this story is very very abrupt. Too abrupt in my opinion, even though I am assuming this book is not going to be a stand alone.

SPOILERS!!!
This was a story of a girl being victimized again and again. First by her rapists and then by her own family. She can identify her rapists, but her family basically all tell her how the family's reputation will be ruined if she has to go to court against the boys. Her family was just the worst, and the sad reality is that this is such a common situation. Although her parents did it because of how it would make the family look, others tell victims to keep it within the family. And those victims, much like Mia, start to blame themselves and believe it wouldn't have happened if they hadn't done this or that. Sad. And even worse was that her father's beliefs kept the doctors from giving Mia the morning after pill and the book ended with Mia finding out she was pregnant. Stars off because the ending was so abrupt. Also because Mia was extremely condescending when she had to do work at the women's shelter. There were battered women and children trying to survive and she's busy complaining over the crumbs on a keypad and dirt on a table.

First, let me just say I got this book because Lizzy Ford is one of the authors. I love her sci-fi books and she's an automatic read for me. I grabbed this book up as soon as I saw it and didn't bother to read what it was about. This is nothing like I've read from her before. I don't know if I would have read this book if I had paid attention to the description. How do you rate a book that follows the story of the aftermath of a teenage girl who was raped? This story is devastating. This poor girl is trying to survive a brutal attack and the more I read, the more I was furious on her behalf. Her father is a politician and her mother is a drunk. Neither one of her parents showed up at the hospital. Her fathers only concern is how to use this "incident" for his campaign. Her father refuses to consent for the morning after pill because he views it as murder. She gets prosecuted for underage drinking so the DA can pressure her to name her attackers. This poor girl is being punished for what happened to her. This was not easy to read because I know that there is truth to this story for so many women. It just drives home that no one can truly understand what others go through. Everyone's experience is different. They react differently. They are treated differently. They have different support systems or no support systems at all.
This is not a complete story and ends on a cliffhanger. ARC provided by NetGalley.

This was so good and also so sad and made me furious. Just to think about going through a rape and getting zero support from your family. Your own father tells lies about not getting pregnant by rape and the people closest to you want you to say that it was your fault. It breaks my heart to think that it stills is possible to get away with false information about women health issues and handing the guilt card to rape victims. A great story which deserves to be told to as many readers as possible.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley and Captured Press!
