Simply Superb. This was such an easy and enjoyable book to read. I started out by reading Matthew Betley’s second and third book (which I absolutely loved), before reading this first book in the series, and I’m so glad I’ve now read ‘Overwatch’ to see where Logan West came from. I really enjoyed how this story is constructed, and the way we are taken back to Logan’s days in Iraq. I know how much I’m enjoying a book when I need to stop reading it for work and life’s other interruptions, and then I’m excited to start reading it again. This is certainly one of those stories.
Even drinking until he passes out, won’t stop Logan West from forgetting the horrors of losing most of his squad in Iraq. Not that he would be expected to after seeing them blown to pieces. Now the constant memories and nightmares aren’t helped his marriage. Logan is lucky that his fighting skills at that well-honed from being in the Marine Corps as a Force Recon Officer, that it continues to keep him alive as a civilian. He’s certainly not happy when his wife Sarah is targeted by the same group of killers that attack him, and they don’t look like stopping anytime soon. Logan calls on his friend Special Agent Mike Benson from the FBI to help, once they find out what the killers are after. They know there must be more to it than just an Iraqi flag, that Logan knows is at John Quicks house. Mike doesn’t have much trouble in convincing Logan and Mike to join in the hunt for the killers, especially after they have both been targeted themselves. If you enjoy Action Thrillers, then this is definitely an Author you should add to your reading list. A fabulous read from start to finish.

This book is full of action with a great story. While it does require you to suspend belief a littke its worth it. If action is to your likikng pick this book up.

Former Marine and current alcoholic Logan West has had his fair share of hangovers. Though none quite compare to awakening hungover to an intruder with connections to a group bent on starting World War III. Logan must work with former teammates and unlikely allies if he is to stop the shadows of his past from darkening everyone’s future.

Overwatch is a thoroughly enjoyable addition to the action thriller genre.

Logan West is everything you want from an action hero. He’s flawed, ferocious and almost unstoppable with a generous helping of good luck and great allies. There are even a handful of zingers thrown out by the hero, just to cover all of the bases.

Overwatch’s plot is busy but not in a way that makes the story hard to follow. Overwatch sticks fairly closely to the action formula, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing — if it’s not broken, why fix it?

Billed as a “Logan West thriller”, Overwatch is the start of a series featuring the hero. I definitely look forward to future novels to see how the characters and their stories evolve.

While Overwatch doesn’t break a lot of new ground, the story is enjoyable, the heroes are likeable and the bad guy is despicable. A solid read for anyone who enjoys fast paced military action thrillers.

I had high hopes for Overwatch by Matthew Betley. They were not realised. Compared to many great thrillers I have read recently, this paled in comparison, and if it could have, should have slunk away its tail between its legs.

While I am quite able to stretch my imagination when required, this was ridiculous. The plot required me to suspend all belief in reality and plausibility.

Yes there is plenty of action, but it was not enough to carry me through, and in the end I abandoned this read. I won't be reading the sequels.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster (Australia) via NetGalley for providing a digital ARC of Overwatch by Matthew Betley for review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
