I realise there were books prior to this, and maybe I should have read those first as I felt I was playing catch up to an extent. A lot happening, strong characters, well paced.

I like the idea behind this one, it's reasonably original as far as superhero origins go. And while it has some bloody violence, it's also not just gross so far. I'm just sort of neutral on it. I won't remember the details 3 days after reading it, so it's clearly not a runaway 5 stars, but I'd probably get the next one if I saw it on the library shelf.

I love these characters. They are fresh, exciting, and interesting. I would follow their stories forever!

'Harbinger Renegade Vol. 1: The Judgment of Solomon' by Rafer Roberts with art by Stephen Segovia is a pretty decent story about a dysfunctional team of superheroes who need to figure out how to work together again.

The story starts with a prelude that introduces the Renegades. The current most active member is Faith "Zephyr" Herbert, who has her own Valiant series. The rest have gone into retirement or gone a bit crazy.

There is a gene lurking unknown inside some people that makes them psiots. The powers can be activated, but the problem is that there is a group trying to activate psiots and having disastrous results. When Torque is attacked and a young psiot is threatened, Faith and team mate Kris Hathaway reach out to Peter Stanchek to try to get his help.

The story is great. This is kind of a messed up group of people, but they seem interesting enough that I want to know more. The art was really great. I'm less familiar with the Valiant line than other comics publishers, but this book had me hooked pretty early on and I really enjoyed it.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Valiant Entertainment, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

The Harbinger Renegades brought down Toyo Harada and his scheme to take over the world. But in doing so, they released a list of potential psiots to the world. Now someone is trying to activate various individuals off the list with DIY kits that leave bodies strewn and no new psiots. The Renegades come back together to try to stop the mayhem and save lives, but will their group dynamics destroy them before their enemies get the chance? Read and find out.

This was only a partial book. I was more than a little ticked off to get to the final issue and realize it was unfinished artwork with no dialogue.

Incredibly crisp writing and artwork that heralds back to the original series. It is great to see these old characters, whether Gold Key or Valiant, be brought back to the mainstream comic world. Goes to the consensus that the best comic book stories will be found among the independent publishers.

This is a really great Harbinger title. I will read anything with Faith in it though. The idea that DIY psiot activation causes catastrophic results in those who attempt it is truly terrifying. I'm glad comics are taking on some controversial and exploratory subjects.

First of all, I've never read any of the Renegade/Harbinger comics. I did love the idea of Faith's character, which is the reason I requested the ARC in the first place.

Secondly, I now want to read all of them. The characters are realistic and the storyline moves along fairly quickly! Even though I haven't seen the characters development over the different issues, it is very obvious that there are some static characters that want to be static (Torque) and characters that have gone through a lot of change (Hamada, Peter, Kris). It'd be interesting to go back to the beginning and see what these folks are like! I will if given the chance.

Third, It was heartless of the ARC to not give me the fourth issue of Volume 1. Pictures, but no captions!? That's just rude--but I guess now I have to get the fourth issue.

Prerequisite reading material: Harbinger series, if desired but you’re good reading Harbinger Renegade as a stand-alone series, events are well explained. If you’re read any other the Harbinger or single character arcs (Such as my beloved, Faith) then bonus points because you’ll be ahead of the game but you’ll be able to follow this with zero prior knowledge.

My experience with series prior to reading Harbinger Renegade Vol 1:
I’m very much aware of this version of reality and the concept behind it from reading the Faith line of comics. I’m an extremely devoted Faith fan and commend Valiant for the kick-butt awesome that is ‘Zephyr’.

A bit of background: The world of that Harbinger Renegade takes place in is much like our own, but there exist a select few humans who have powers that enable them to do great and terrible things. They’re called Psiots, humans with the ability to tap into their innate powers via a life-threatening surgical procedure. Powers include fun standards such as mind-control, flying, fire powers, and super-strength as well as very select Psiots that possess combo-abilities. Think X-Men who have to call a 1-800 number to activate their powers before use. The Renegades were a team of Psiots who formed to combat the power of Toyo Harada.

About Harbinger: Well, to sum it up, a really shitty dude named Harada ran an evil corporation thanks to his super-charged Psiot powers. The Renegades refused to conform to the world Harada tried to bring about and fought to to topple his empire. They leaked all of Harbinger’s secrets about Psiots to the world, this was not a good thing. Now Psiots are being hunted and kids are dying from botched attempts to activate their powers. The Renegades have long since split apart, with only two of their members still fighting. They need to fix their mistake, they need to bring the Renegades back together, no matter the risk because Harada isn’t the only thing they need to worry about anymore.

Faith, aka Zephyr is a plus-size super heroine with a big heart, the ability to fly, and a never-give-up attitude. She’s a nerd with a heart of gold who can kick your ass into next week.

John, aka Torque, has the Psiot gift of great super strength and endurance with the ability to project holograms. His powers have brought him fame, even after leaving the Renegades behind.

Kris is a former Renegade who went to prison for the ongoings in Harbinger; after serving her time, she’s trying to keep her life clean but is wracked with guilt over the mistakes the team made under her advisement. She’s Peter’s former childhood sweetheart and the share a connection.

Peter is what they call ‘Omega Level’ and the former leader of the Harbinger Resistance. He’s extremely powerful and has faced addiction issues by trying to avoid his painful ability to read minds and hear thoughts.

Ax is a brilliant hacker and computer genius, on the run for involvement with the Renegades.

Charlene (Aka: Flamingo) was a Renegade who gave her life for the cause prior to this story arc; her death still haunts the group.

Art: 6/10; Solid art with good use of color but nothing boundary pushing. Certain scenes caused me to drop a point on this one.
Characters: 9/10; We deal with addiction, we see all types of bodies and colors that can be total bad-asses, and there is a beautiful diversity between the members.
Story: 8/10; I couldn’t put it down, really solid story demonstrating the blurred line between good and bad, how that can intersect, and how the actions we take reverberate beyond just ourselves.

This is a great book to read if you're familiar with some of the events leading up to it. There are references to the early Harbinger books from Valiant Entertainment, but they do provide some information to let the reader know what is happening.

The knowledge on how to unlock powers within a small percentage of the population, and who those people are, has been released into the world. Now various groups are trying to perfect that knowledge and use it to their advantage. Faith, one of the original Harbinger kids, sees the threat that this poses to the world and is trying to stop it.

I enjoyed this book a lot, but I've read about most of the characters already. It starts off a little ho-hum. However, when Peter Stanchek reappears, it really takes off. He is given a lot of great characterization, mostly through the art. I loved seeing all of the characters from Harbinger brought back together here. Despite a rocky start, it showed a lot of potential by the end. I can't wait to see where it goes next.

I wanted to read this because I love Faith and it didn't disappoint.

The characters in this comic aren't exactly your average superheroes. They're all in hiding after exposing a secret terrorist organization, but now they're being forced to come back out in an attempt to save teenagers who are being killed because of their powers. Every character is uniquely drawn and the writer captures their voices and personalities perfectly. If you're looking for a comic about diverse, not-so-super heroes, definitely check out Harbinger Renegade.

(ARC from NetGalley)

This is a fun introduction to a new series. As such, it feels more like a prologue volume and a part of a much bigger story. To grade it more justly, here are some pro's and cons:

Pros:
-Awesome story.
-Has an X-Men style social awareness but it is way subtler about it. Does not feel like a PSA in any given moment.
- Great sci-fi feel in a timeline that is almost present time.
- Awesome characters
- FAITH FAITH FAITH

Cons:
- Too much exposition, too little story, too little happening.
- Prologues felt out of place from time to time. Despite the villain having a hole backstory he still feels like a plot point more than a character.

So I liked this story, and I definitely hope to continue reading this, but it still needs a lot of development.

In the beginning of this graphic novel, you will get a summary of the previous story of what happened so that those new readers (including me) could catch up . Due to their actions, things have changed for the heroes. The heroes are psiots. Psiots are peoplewho have special powers such as telekinesis, telepathy and flight, etc. the heroes When people are told how they can become psiots, many try and fail. The heroes are being contacted by Faith who is trying to get them to right the wrongs they inadvertly did. It is difficult. One of the heroes, Kris has just gotten out of jail and is on probation. She wants to help but wants to not break her probation. She doesn't want to go back to jail.

The characters are well developed as well as the story. The art is great. I can't wait to see what happens in the next volume. I liked how there was a plus-sized hero, and a hero living with the same sex besides it being an interracial relationship. I liked especially that it was not a big deal, it just was.

I didn’t know a lot about this series before jumping into this graphic novel which left me a little confused at first. I quickly got over that however and am now very curious to find out more about the series as a whole. I wasn’t instantly drawn to the art style but the composition was easy to understand and each page flowed really smoothly. The artwork felt crisp and amplified the ongoing story.

I’m a huge fan of shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Alphas, so I’m always drawn to any kind of stories that include hidden abilities in everyday people. I really liked this take on something I’ve seen before. While I didn’t have a lot of back story, I felt like I was able to get to know enough about each characters without it. My favorite aspect of this graphic novel was the amount of diversity that it included, especially in the character Faith.

Overall, if you are a fan of superhero stories of any kind you’ll most likely enjoy this graphic novel. I’m looking forward to exploring more of the series and finding out all of the backstory.

I was introduced to the Harbingers via the Faith spin-off title, which I love and adore. So I was really excited to see that this was available for review. Unfortunately, this just did not do it for me. I liked the diversity in the cast, but the plot was all over the place. This could, of course, just be because I wasn't really familiar with what had happened in this universe prior to the Faith title starting. But I spent the entire comic feeling like I was missing huge chunks of plot and could not catch up.

Despite the "Vol 1", this is not a title for newcomers to the Harbinger universe. I had hoped it would be a good place for a newbie like me to start, but I guess not.

DNF – and that's the publishers, who included the fourth episode of this story without colouring or text! I'd DNFfed it myself (if that's even a term) before then anyway – this sub X-Men different-factions-of-superpowered-teens-in-combat series was just too meh. Yes, it would have been better if I'd known what had gone on in earlier volumes, but all the same – just because it's got dykes and Rebel Wilson in it, doesn't automatically make it interesting.

This was my first exposure to Valient comics which other comics readers had told me was good. First off this didn't seem very original. It reminded me of some stories from the big 2 and it felt like something was missing. I will admit that this just wasn't for me but wouldn't advise not reading it because I didn't like it.
