A truly diabolical premise with tension crackling off every page. A must-read for all who enjoy intelligently-written stories with great characterizations, and who enjoy surprise twists at every turn. A great addition to this genre, and highly recommended. I'll be reading more from this author!

This is a very fast paced book. Even so, I was surprised to realize that the bulk of the book took place in one night of the Mardi Gras parades.

I didn't understand the title of the book, but there are streets in New Orleans named after the Greek Muses, and there are a number of Krewes named after Greek gods and goddesses. The afterward specifically names the Krewe of Muses, who likely helped give Bill Loehfelm background into the parade route and all of the little ways that criminals could take advantage of the madness that is Mardi Gras.

This book gives a great feel for what it's like to be in the city with the police, and even the characters that are meant to be background ones sparkle and crackle with life.

HOW did I not hear about this series before???????

I have no idea, but I am now STUCK like GLUE to this one! Not only is the NOLA settign CORRECTLY done, but the law enforcement patois is perfect, and the Mardi Gras conditions spot on. WHICH means, this books reads like real life! Maureen is so relatable- she's struggling to be accepted, but finds herself in the wrong place at the right time . Unfortunately now she has a reputation for being in the mud more times than not! She may irritate her Sergeant, but he can't argue with her results! This is a real page turner- I literally stayed up til wee hours of the monring finishing it, as it was SO good! In fact, I did the 'NOOOOOO" scream when it ended, as I wanted to seee Maureen through the St Patrick's parade season (which generally follows Mardi Gras!). I will defintely be going back and reading the first 4 books in the series (this is the 5th book) during the rest of the Summer!

Wow, I really felt like I was actually a part of Mardi Gras reading this book. The author did a great job putting me there. I actually felt the rush, the tensions and just a little claustrophobic. I'm sure that it helped that I had been to Mardi Gras in Galveston. However, this book put me right back there.

The characters in this book were very well developed and I grew to like them immediately (well, except for one) and to feel for the pressures of their jobs. Dealing with multiple gunshots in the middle of Mardi Gras and the pressures and issues of having to do their jobs? I felt for these characters.

A wonderful story that I just ripped right through, enjoyed the feelings it brought and meeting these characters.

Thanks to Farar, Straus & Giroux and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Loehfelm is that rarest of male authors – he writes women well. Fresh off her assignment with the FBI and back on the job with NOPD, Maureen Coughlin won’t have time to relax, becuase it’s Mardi Gras time in the Big Easy. From chasing down scantily clad partyers to a gunman on a spree, Maureen and her fellow officers are doing their best to keep the city safe from wild partyers and crazed killers. I love the Jack Daniels series and this book puts me in mind of those stories. Highly recommended
